Tip at buffets

What percent do you tip at a buffet? What percent do they add when they include the tip? We have lots of buffets scheduled and have allowed 20% per meal but I just thought about this. Anybody?

Most etiquette experts suggest that buffets warrant a slightly lower tip than a standard table service location. Miss Manners recommends tipping the same amount at both. I'm a big MM fan, so that's what I do. Your Mileage May Vary.

They (WDW) add 18% for parties of 6 or more.

We tip about 15% at buffets, closer to 20 % at sit-down...my feeling on buffets is while the wait-staff hustle plenty, they are providing less service to a higher # of tables, therefore the % they receive should be adjusted accordingly. Many here on the boards feel buffet servers should be tipped equally to a sit-down waiter...I disagree. Also, let's say a CM handles 4 tables or about 20 people an hour, 12 adults, 8 kids. On $22 per adult and $12 per child, at 15 %, that's $54 per hour they earn. Even supposed they pool tips with wait staff, I think we should not feel bad paying 15 %.

In fact, at $54 per hour, where do I sign up?

We tip the same as any other meal. A buffet shouldn't matter as the same amount of work is done, IMO.
