Tiny Bubble? I'm Here, Big Bubble - A July 2025 TR *Updated 11/13

July 14th Part 3:

With Alex needing a proper lunch, my group headed towards the Ministry of Magic portal. I absolutely love the way Universal designed the entrances to each land, really using all their tools to make you believe you are going into a new theme.

For 1920s Paris, guests step through a Time Turner, and if you listen closely you can hear the ticking as you pass through.::yes::

The big awe factor is this Arc de Trump with magical creatures all along the edges and a massive phoenix as the centerpiece.

UO 2025 July - 0064.JPG

And then, just like Diagon Alley in Universal Studios, the land is a long street with shops on either side. It’s a stunning area with so much to look at and admire. This is the perfect land to grab a drink and stroll around in, taking your time and trying to catch sight of all the creatures strewn about.

But of course, that was NOT what was necessary at this moment of our trip.

A shame not everyone could remember that.:rolleyes1

Eddie and Leslie got caught up in the fun of the land when they saw the first magic spot, and they immediately pulled out their interactive wands and let the kids use them. (Landon and Evie had forgotten theirs at home.) There was also additional quests and activities on the Universal app, and the four of them began looking at what they entailed.

Meanwhile, Alex was standing on the street with his phone in hand, looking at food menus.

“Which restaurant sounds most appealing?”

He tried handing the device over to his siblings, but they were too distracted.

Uh Oh.

It wasn’t long before Alex exclaimed,
“We can do magic later, I need food!”

Poor brother and sister in-law didn’t know what hit them. They didn’t realize their brother gets hangry, and when he says it’s lunchtime, that’s the highest priority. Very quickly, I ushered us towards Goblet Noir. I had seen online that the restaurant was always empty, because it’s tucked into an alleyway that most people miss, so I figured it would be the quickest place to get food.

The place really is a ghost town. There are four or five rooms with tons of tables and barely anybody inside. It’s dim and cool and there’s a massive amount of Easter Eggs inside. (I’ll go into those on our second Epic day.) This would be the perfect spot to camp out in during a thunderstorm or for an afternoon rest.

We chose tables near the Patronus photograph (I’ll explain later!) and mobile ordered our lunches. While we waited, we let the kids take pictures and play Solitaire on their devices:

UO 2025 July - 0067.JPG

Alex and I were disoriented for a second, watching the kids. It’s hard to wrap our heads around what a different phase of parenting we’re in now. This trip couldn’t have made that more apparent. It’s such a strange sensation. I miss the trips when they were little, but I love the dynamic of the vacations now.

It’s a trade off. I can’t have both the hugs from toddler arms and the laughter of a teenager making a funny joke. My kids’ ages don’t allow me to have both. So I just have to take as many trips as I can with them at every single stage and soak up what I have in that moment.:goodvibes

For this past summer, it was this. Lanky preteens playing music from their playlists, then talking a mile a minute about how awesome Hiccup’s Wing Gliders was and shoving the fan too close to their sibling’s face.

It was perfect.

Them sitting in their strollers ten years ago, hollering for an Uncrustable was perfect.

Them rushing onto Thunder Mountain during a Villains After Hours party was perfect.

And one day, I know, them running off to accomplish their own plans in the park, returning to us and recapping their adventures, will be perfect.

Gosh, I love these two kiddos.:cloud9:

Moving along, our drinks came out first. We got a few Butterbeers to split. A hot version was a must for Alex, with a frozen thrown in for good measure. We also tried the lavender lemonade. Landon loved this drink and said it was his favorite drink at Epic.

UO 2025 July - 0068.JPG

It was cool and refreshing on a hot day. A little tart and not overly sweet. But when Alex took a sip he told me, “I don’t want to say what it tastes like, because then you won’t like it.”

Well, you can’t say something like that and then NOT tell me what you’re thinking. Reluctantly, he announced that he tasted grape flavoring in the concoction.

And he was right.

I took another sip and immediately didn’t like it.:rotfl:

I HATE artificial grape. Hate, hate, hate it with a passion. Love grapes. Like wine. Tolerate raisins. But fake grape? Gross!

I think it’s because growing up my mother always got grape flavored medicine and I grew to associate it with illness. But now I cannot stand the taste. So much to my consternation, Alex was right. He said it, I could only picture grape when I drank it, and so it right away became Landon and Evie’s drink.

You’re welcome, kids.

Landon, Alex, and I got the bratwurst meal that came on a pretzel roll with cheese and caramelized onions and a side salad. Evie and Leslie split the roast beef sandwich.

UO 2025 July - 0069.JPG

This brat was so, so good! The jam, the onions, it all worked together really well. And having a salad was nice. It was light and refreshing.

Lunch was a winner!

And Alex was in a much better mood with real food in his stomach. His siblings joked that he was a brand new person. They also proclaimed, “Now we know. We’ve got about a twenty minute window from the time Alex says he’s hungry to when we need to have something on a plate in front of him.”😆
Indeed.

Walking back outside, I admired all the posters plastered to the walls:

UO 2025 July - 0070.JPG

There was even a moving picture frame with Professor Trelawney that guests could activate with an interactive wand.

Leslie hopped on the Universal app and discovered that Ministry of Magic was down. This attraction tends to be down a lot, so while we weren’t surprised, we were a little letdown. The hope was to hop in line and wait since we were all fed and happy.

Our group walked over to the ride entrance to see if we could at least walk through the queue to see the inside, but Team Members were turning everyone away. I recommend anyone who is not very interested riding the attraction do this method. The walkthrough takes you through the most breathtaking parts and saves a ton of time. It was a brilliant idea on Universal to design the entrance and exit in this way, and I hope parks continue this method on future e-ticket attractions.

Nobody in the group wanted to leave the portal in case Ministry came back online quickly, so everyone decided to wander around and do some magic. Along the way, Leslie and I made it to Bar Moonshine:

UO 2025 July - 0072.JPG

It seemed a shame to pass up an opportunity to try the popular Lobe Blaster, a cocktail with moonshine, limoncello, absinthe, lemon juice, club soda, and a rosemary sprig.

UO 2025 July - 0073.JPG

Whoa boy. I think the ingredients speak for themselves. That beverage packed a punch. Leslie and I were glad we split one. I think I would’ve taken a nap on the stoop of one of those facades had I had my own.:rotfl:

About fifteen minutes passed with the kids finding the magic spots, the adults pointing out discoveries, and our phones constantly refreshing the Universal attractions page. Along the way, I found my favorite building:

UO 2025 July - 0076.JPG

And Leslie suggested we go inside and watch the Le Cirque Arcanus show.

UO 2025 July - 0077.JPG

I’m torn on whether or not I say if this show was worth a visit or not. The storyline and sets were gorgeous. The bubble blower act was well done, and it fit into the theme of the land very well. Plus, it’s a break from the heat. Can’t discount that.

But there is a pre-show area that Leslie and I did not like at all. The introduction to the story was great, but Universal crammed as many people as possible into the circular room for approximately fifteen to twenty minutes.

It was too long.

Little kids were getting restless around us, the stank of so many summer sweaty bodies was overwhelming, and by the end nobody was listening to the performers. Everyone just wanted some breathing room and a seat to collapse in.

If Universal could make that section a lot shorter, I’d be willing to go back. But as it is, it was too claustrophobic for me.

Upon leaving the show, Ministry was still down and the day was ticking away. There was a certain preteen in the group that was starting to get antsy. He made several comments along the line of, “Evie got to see her portal. When do I get to go to mine?”

He wasn’t wrong.

Landon was itching to go into MarioWorld, and he’d waited through two shows, a coaster, a lunch, and a snack so far to be able to do it. No matter how bad we wanted to go on Ministry, it wasn’t fair to keep Landon from his must-do any longer.

Giving Ministry a forlorn look, the six of us headed out of the portal.

Up Next: How Did We End Up Here?

The seated part of the Arcanus show sounds great but I’d hate the cramped, smelly first part so I get why you’re torn. I love the sound of all the interactive magic with the wands and imagine that is so much fun for everyone involved.
Such a shame Ministry didn’t come back up in time but I’m looking forward to Mario World.
Alex has a twin in my wee granddaughter :rotfl: When the words “I’m hungry” are uttered you are on the countdown clock were you better find food quickly before she becomes a grumpy guts :rotfl:I keep a snack bag in my car that she raids every time I pick her up from nursery school as she can’t make the 10 minutes trip home before the grumps set in :rotfl2: That bag of snacks saves me a world of pain and she too is a whole new person after food. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Whew! Finally caught up. Where to start? I love that the actors came down to talk to Evie after the show. I don't care how old you are, that's still cool. That drink with the absynth sounds powerful. I don't know if I could even share that one without falling over. And sorry about the Ministry ride. I see that happens a lot in the trip reports I read. I get technology and all but its still a disappointment when you spent all that money to get in.

I'm so excited to hear about the kids doing the 10k! How amazing!!

And I'll wave at you at Thanksgiving. I'll be in MK that day. So close and yet so far from getting to meet.

Loving your latest TR! Your reports require some quiet time to really concentrate and get a hot cup of coffee :-) Love a road trip but they are much more fun when you're not rushed. Nice you could leave early. Exciting to explore a new park! LOVE the picture of your DD in her Viking costume - very cool. I bet the interaction with the actors made her day. So much to comment on - looking forward to reading more!

I like to think people fall into two categories. There's individuals who don't function well when they're hungry and then there are those who don't do well without sleep. I'm firmly in the sleep camp. I am useless when I'm tired. But Alex and your granddaughter clearly need snacks on hand. Glad you've learned to keep some in your car. Saves you from a long 10 minute drive.:rotfl:

That moment made my day. So many kudos to the performers for adding a little magic to our trip.

Thank goodness Eddie and Alex also tried the drink. 4 adults was just barely manageable. 😆
(One of the bartenders told Alex later on that the drink contained the most alcohol they were legally allowed to sell in the parks. Yikes!)

I'm so excited to hear about the kids doing the 10k! How amazing!!

I cannot wait to have them experience a runDisney race. It's so fun sharing a passion with people you care about, and I know Evie is going to gain so much confidence from doing this.

I wish I were going to MK rather than Universal! :rotfl: But unfortunately my pass is blacked out during the holidays. Probably for the best. I might've ditched the rest of my party for a few hours and snuck away to the parks to enjoy the Disney holiday festivities.

Thank you! I love that there is a place to relive trips and share in each other's memories. I feel like there's a group of kids around Landon's age that I've watched grow up here on the boards.

The wind cooperated for us when I was taking those photos of Evie and made her cape flutter in all the shots. It was perfect. :goodvibes

Hi Alicia! I was thrilled to see your report when I jumped back onto the boards… your trip sounds epic. (I couldn’t resist. :rotfl:)

I’m also thrilled you booked your spring race trip! You’ll have a great time with friends. As for your Disneyland trip (yay!), I didn’t know the Monsters Inc. ride at Disneyland was going away! I hope to go to Disneyland once my kids are a bit older but I’m sad I’ll miss that attraction. My girls and I have watched it a lot on YouTube as my oldest and I love Monsters Inc.! (I’m excited about Monstropolis in Hollywood Studios but still a bit salty about losing Muppets Courtyard.)

I’m glad Stella Nova worked out so well for you (minus the odd bathroom situation). My husband would agree 100% with the small food portions at Three Broomsticks - he also ordered the Pasties and was quite disappointed with the sad quantity of food on his plate.

Evie’s vacation was off to a great start! I’m happy she was tall enough for and loved Velocicoaster AND had such a great time in the Isle of Berk. The interactions you described with the characters made me tear up!

It’s a bummer the Battle of the Ministry was down but look forward to Landon’s review of Super Mario World!

You went into parts of the Wizarding World we didn't see. I'm happy to hear Alex got some food before it was too late. It really is easy to get distracted in this portal. Sorry Ministry of Magic was down and even worse they weren't letting people do the tour.

Looking forward to reading Landon's reaction to Super Nintendo World.

The Monsters ride was the attraction I most looked forward to experiencing on our first DL trip, so I'm right there with you on being sad it's going away. IN DCA, they really need that dark ride with minimal wait times for families. Ah well, I'm sure the Coco ride will be gorgeous and wonderful.

It's unfair how much food comes on the other platters and how little comes with the pasties!

On a side note, it's good to see you on the boards again! Will you be writing any updates on your redemption tour trip report?

There are a lot of areas within that portal you can get lost exploring. I do laugh that the one food-related meltdown came from one of the adults in the group, not one of the kids.

July 14th Part 4:

If I was about to trek into a world of video games, I was going to need some assistance. I was finding myself flagging in the middle of the day. (In reality, I only had a few sips of Leslie’s drink so I didn’t think it was due to that.) I was more tired than I expected to be, and I didn’t want Landon to think I was less enthusiastic for his passion.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and I now know I was struggling because I was fighting off an illness, but at the time I was speculating that it was the overwhelming sights and sounds.

That’s my long-winded way of saying that I stopped by a Starbucks to grab a coffee. :rotfl:

UO 2025 July - 0080.JPG

Hello, Iced Americano with a splash of oatmilk. Come lie to me about how excited I’m going to be looking at Toads and Donkey Kong.

This was also an important stop, because I needed to buy my souvenir for the trip. I like to collect the Starbucks mugs, and I knew I had to get one from Epic. It’s a nice design, with a lot of dragons and monsters on it. There’s no Harry Potter or Mario, so I’m assuming that was licensing issue.

Starbucks has two shops, one near the entrance and the one closer to the Mario portal. As soon as I had my purchases, Landon was off in that direction. I had to call him back so I could get a picture:

UO 2025 July - 0081.JPG

I think this portal has one of the best tunnels, but that might be my nostalgia coming into play. The number of times I watched my brothers play Super Mario Brothers and heard that iconic beeping sound when they went down a green tunnel or got a mushroom was countless. It was one of the many sounds of my childhood. So going through a real life tunnel, experiencing the shift into yet another land, was extremely fun.

Guests actually use an escalator here, too, so it really feels like a tunnel.

There’s an option to go around, but again…that comes in on our second day.

As soon as we entered the land, we found where all the guests were hanging out.

But first, another shot of Landon:

UO 2025 July - 0085.JPG

Mario World was packed to the gills with folks! It took us all back, seeing how crowded the area was. Everything is really compact in this land, with the two main sections being broken into an upper and lower level, and there were a lot of bodies going back and forth playing the games with their wristband.

To add to the chaos, the skies were minutes away from opening up and dumping an afternoon shower on us.

What the heck were we to do?!

Leslie got onto the app and said to the group, “MarioKart has a 50 minute wait.”

If I could use a Time Turner, I would go back to that moment and cover her mouth before she uttered the first, “Hey.”

But alas, all those mechanisms are beyond my reach, so Leslie did in fact utter that statement to the group.

It was music to Landon and Eddie’s ears.

Before I could even process what was happening, the group was surging forward towards the entrance to MarioKart.

Alex and I were looking at each other, going, “Wait, what?!”

Those three just sort of…got in line. Without consulting the rest of us. And we were left with deciding to stay outside and get caught in the rain or join them in a long queue we had zero interest in.

Before our trip, Alex and I warned Landon that MarioKart and Ministry had the two longest waits, and that we were going to go for Ministry. (Because everyone enjoyed HP while only some liked video games.) Landon had been fine with that decision. Especially when we explained that if we were going to waste precious park time, we didn’t want it to be on Mario.

Well.

So much for that.

In we went:

UO 2025 July - 0086.JPG

It didn’t take me long to accept our fate and settle in for a long journey to the loading platform. My biggest woe was that I had to hold on to my coffee until the very end. I didn’t want to need a restroom in the queue. I kept having to search the internet for how many rooms were in the queue so I knew when we were getting close.

Speaking of the queue, it was very well done. Guests are inside Bowser’s mansion and going through his different rooms.

UO 2025 July - 0088.JPG

I liked this lamp:

UO 2025 July - 0089.JPG

And the kids got a kick out of this book:

UO 2025 July - 0090.JPG

I liked the queue a lot more than the attraction.

My timestamp on my phone says I took the photo of Landon at the ride entrance at 3:30. Then I got this group shot with all of us wearing our hats at 5:09:

UO 2025 July - 0092.JPG

For this attraction, 90 minutes is pretty standard. But dang. Alex was internally despondent at wasting so much time in a line. I knew he was seeing the seconds ticking by in his head. Poor fellow.

When we got to the loading area, everyone got into the vehicles and then a repeat of Hiccups occurred. Eddie couldn’t fit, and we all got to ride a second time after they moved him to a more accommodating seat.

For me, two turns on a headliner attraction made the 90 minute wait a lot better. Took the sting away a bit. But poor Evie got off after that second ride upset. The hat and glasses were so heavy on her face, and they were pushing her regular glasses into her nose, causing pain.

Definitely an attraction that you gotta take the specs off for.::yes::

Exiting the attraction, the ground was soaking wet, so we did, in fact, dodge a rainshower. Unfortunately, the texture of the ground got really slick when wet, so my group looked like we were ice skating through the land.

Panic was starting to set in with Alex, as he was beginning to realize we were coming down to the wire on remaining park hours. To try and help him, I suggested we split up. Him and Eddie go to Donkey Kong land and grab the snack Landon wanted to try while I took everyone else into the gift shops. Landon wanted to get some small gifts for his friends, so we needed to hunt those down.

After much, much deliberation he settled on pin packs and we met back outside with Alex.

UO 2025 July - 0094.JPG
(You can see how wet the ground is in this pic.)

Landon wanted to try the DK Crush Float:

UO 2025 July - 0095.JPG

Which comprised of Dole Whip Banana Cream with sprinkles and chocolate pieces and popcorn, served over Pineapple Fanta Soda. It was expensive at 19 dollars, but it came in a fun souvenir cup that Landon now has on display on a shelf, so it actually made for a good memento.

The taste was not to my liking, but Alex was surprised by how much he enjoyed it. He thought for sure it would be too sweet, but there was enough tartness from the pineapple to keep it tamed.

I think he was blown away by the fact that it was the dessert he would most likely get again if he went back to Epic.
