I bought some tins of salmon to make fishcakes (which i used to LOVE as a child) but my kids have decided they don't like that :headache: What can I use them for (other than in sandwiches)?

Thanks piratesmate - I'll check it out.

It can make an interesting ingredient in a cold pasta salad or potato salad (add a little dill). It is too bad they don't like the salmon patties- my mother made them also and I have fond memories of them!

I've never had canned salmon, is it like tuna? I've only ever eaten fresh salmon.

Mazda, you posted the Smoked Salmon Pasta recipe on the Pasta Thread. At the time I was reading it, I thought it might work for canned salmon also, instead of the smoked salmon. :)

Yes, it's like canned tuna. Make sure you get a good brand, or it can be as bad as some canned tuna. Trader Joes is great, if you have one near you.

I've done the smoked salmon recipe with fresh salmon, never thought of soing it with canned.

my mum also used to make salmon sandwiches with it - I could have them for work for a change.

I just read in a health magazine a suggestion for a kid's lunch is canned salmon with a little light mayo on whole wheat crackers.

When DH and I used to do antique fairs MIL used to make us wholemeal baps filled with salmon and mayo for our pack lunch - I'd forgotten that! Case solved!!
