Saturday 5th August

Well if you read yesterday’s report you might have noticed that we were supposed to be going to Universal today, so what happened. Well I read on the internet that Disney were putting the price of tickets up tomorrow. We needed to buy AP vouchers for our December trip and as the exchange rate was over $1.90 we decided to swap our days and head to MGM today so that we could get our AP vouchers.

We were all up and ready to go by 8:45am but I needed to phone DVC member services which didn’t open until 9am. We waited until 9 and I called them but, dork that I am, I forgot that today was Saturday and they weren’t open - doh. So, off we set just after 9am and arrived at MGM by 9:15. It didn’t seem that busy and first stop for the lads was RnR where DD decided she was going to ride it for the first time. They all set off and went to guest services to buy our DVC AP vouchers – or so I though.

After numerous phone calls here there and everywhere it seems that you can only buy DVC AP vouchers directly from member services who, you may remember, are closed today. I’m not sure what to do so I go off to think about it and will head back to guest services later. I made my way over to RnR and took the time to do a little pin trading and browse in the shops. I checked the times guide and realised that Kim Possible would be appearing in Mickey Avenue at 10:15am so when the lads got off RnR we set off to meet Kim. DD really enjoyed RnR and is now a certified coaster addict (although she has yet to try the likes of Kraken, Hulk etc.,)

We didn’t have to wait long for Kim, DH was most impressed but declined a photo ;) Ron was not with her but it seems it was his Bueno Natcho day and he and Rufus were off there. After meeting Kim we said hello to Minnie and we also popped into to see Mickey who didn’t have anyone waiting in line to see him and seemed to be glad of the company as there was no one else there. From the character meet we went on the back lot tour and as it was our first time riding this one we didn’t know what to expect. We were surprised and we decided that we liked this ride. Next up the kids went into Honey I blah, blah, blah playground while we were killing some time for the 11:50 cars show. DD was very hungry so we went to Pizza Planet to get her a pizza while DS had a coke and a cookie and DH had a coffee. When we came out of here we saw Mater and Lightning from Cars and DD stopped for a photo.

We went off to the stunt show, which was as good as ever but very loud (or is it that I'm just getting very old).

Next up it was on to Muppet 3D and there was a very annoying woman in the row behind us talking on her mobile. A lot of the American visitors around her were getting very vocal and asking her to please be quiet. She got the message eventually and turned the phone off. The show was good - although not as good as Philharmagic. We were feeling hungry and went to the back lot express for - yes you guessed it, chicken strips and fries. DS has a very restricted appetite so we tend to have to stick to the same sort of places. We managed to get a table but the service for food was very slow. When we eventually left the back lot express we made our way over to the Animation Studios to meet The Incredibles.

We had a good day at MGM and also did lots more pin trading.

Last up was one more go on RnR before an ice-cream then back to the villa for a much needed swim. On the way out of the park we met a “cop” handing out tickets to badly parked strollers

On our first visit to MGM we weren’t very impressed with this park but the more I visit and get to see all the detailing the more I am getting to like this park.

We got back to the villa and I did some laundry while the kids swam (in the pool, not the washing machine) then we went to dinner at the Golden Corral. The place was packed and it was not a very nice experience here today. Usually we eat around half 4 or 5pm and it’s not usually crowded but tonight at half 6 the place was mobbed. Now I know why some people hate this restaurant. If last night had been our first experience we would not have gone back.

The kids went swimming when we got back to the villa then we watched some TV when we got back and went to bed around 10pm.

Tomorrow - Universal - honestly

Glad you are getting to enjoy MGM it's one of my fav parks

It's funny we did MGM for the first time last year and I really didn't like it. All I could see was the shops and the commercialism but this time I took the time to look at the detail and there is loads going on. I really like it now

Another good day :thumbsup2
