Day 27 - Even More Vero
DD & I woke at just after 7am today and sent DH in for a sleep with DS. I was still burnt on my back and scalp so my honed and toned figure would have to be hidden today under one of DHs t-shirts and his baseball cap (a collective sigh of gratitude went up from all the guests at Vero when they heard this news
). I knew I wouldnt be able to take full on sun today so I went down to the pool at 8am and reserved us one of the tables and umbrellas so we would have some shade. I wasnt really that naughty as DD and I were back using it within half an hour whereas the person next to me who not only tool a table, 4 chairs and two loungers didnt show up until lunch time (and there were only two of them the whole time we were there
. There never seems to be a shortage of loungers at Vero but the tables and umbrellas are harder to get.
DS came into us but was still quite tired so I left him in the sofa bed playing with his Nintendo and left DH a note to make sure DS got plenty of sun screen. DD & I went down to the pool and then the beach. She wanted to hire some boogie boards so we got three in case one of Craigs DDs wanted to join us. It was lovely in the sea at this time and we noticed it was really calm although quite cold when you first got in. DD and I where there for about an hour before DH and DS joined us. Id got a bit of a headache so I left the kids with DH, went back to the room and got some headache tablets, I also got a latte and sat at our table and just chilled
. The lads were soon back and DS was almost in tears. He had a rash on this inner thighs which was caused by the shale and sand getting trapped in his shorts and rubbing his legs. He was walking like John Wayne and very upset. I send DH back to the room to get him some different shorts and took him into the restroom where they have showers. The new shorts did the trick and he said it felt much better and I went back to finish my latte while DH played ping pong with DS and DD got into the pool.
Carigs DW and the girls came down to the pool and DD was very upset that they would be going home in a few hours but at least they would be around for a while. The girls played happily in the pool and Craigs DW gave DD a new pair of goggles as wed lent their DD2 a pair of ours and theyd got knocked off and swept out to sea on a big wave yesterday, DD was delighted as these ones were blue. Meanwhile DS and DH headed back to the ocean while I stayed in the shade. DD came over a bit later and said theyd like to play golf so I went and organised it but didnt want to play myself so left Craigs oldest DD in charge. It seems that DD and Craigs DD2 did a bit of cheating (must get it from their parents
) They were all getting a bit peckish and as we had enough hot dogs to feed an army I nipped back to the room and brought down half a dozen hot dogs and the rest of DDs pizza from last night which she ate. The girls did me a favour as I would have only thrown them away tomorrow. I wouldnt trust taking them all the way back to Orlando in this heat.
Once theyd finished eating it was time for Craigs DD to get her hair braided, DD went to watch as she is getting hers done later. They did a great job and she looked lovely.
It was nearly time for the others to head back to Orlando but time for one last game of golf. As you can see Craig takes his game very seriously
It was then time to say our goodbyes and DD was very sad to see them go. We really enjoyed meeting them they made our stay at Vero extra nice and according to DD meeting Craigs DDs was the best part of her holiday.
DD was getting a bit upset so we headed back to the ocean. It was really calm today with hardly any waves, I was chatting to a guy who had been out on the wave riders and he said it was like a pond out there. Wed noticed a ship anchored not far off shore and it seems it was a treasure boat. When the hurricane Wilma passed through Vero 2 years ago it churned up a load of the sea bed and a gold bar was discovered which led to the belief that there was a wreck buried somewhere off shore. The treasure ship was dragging a sonar over the sea bed then sending down teams of divers in various locations that looked promising. I might just buy a metal detector and walk along the shore, you never know your luck.
We came back to the pool and got something to eat for DS. I could see that both kids were looking a bit red so we decided wed call it a day soon. We went to see if we could get DDs hair braided today instead of tomorrow and the boys went to give the boogie boards back. The lady doing the braiding said she could do DDs hair almost right away do we went back to the room to wash her hair and try and get most of the sand out. DD picked two shades of pink for her beads and sat really still while getting it done. It took about half an hour and was well worth the $35 (plus $5 tip) Hopefully it should last a couple of weeks again so that she can show the people at school.
We went back to the room and had something to eat, DH and I then tackled the packing - this year we swore that we werent going to buy loads of stuff but we still did. Eventually we managed to fit it all in although some stuff (like all those souvenir cups that you always seem to have loads of) didnt make it home. I discovered today that Vero now has wireless internet access in the lobby so I took the laptop and checked on my e-mails. I also got a couple of trippies off the Dibb to read later. I swapped with DH and he went and did some surfing. The kids were watching some TV in one room and I was watching the Weather Channel with a nice cold glass of wine in the other room. What is it about the Weather Channel that fascinates us? DH was back about half 8 and as DD was wrecked we all had an early night. We probably finished chatting about our day and went to sleep just before 10pm.
Note : Id read about some small biting bugs at Vero called No-see-ums which come out in the evening and are worse between dawn and dusk. It was dusk when I was walking back from using the laptop and I can vouch that you dont see um
. I got about 40 bites on my legs which now look even more attractive than before. Luckily we had something called After Bite X-tream which seemed to help but if you are ever at Vero be sure to use insect repellent in the evening.
Tomorrow - The Boardwalk and MK for our last day.
