Day 24 - Blizzard Beach and Cape May Clam Bake
Today was the kids choice and they picked Blizzard Beach, I know that to get any chance of getting things done without an huge line meant that we would have to get going early. I was up around half 7 and I woke everyone else at just after 8am. There was plenty of giving out from the kids but I said that if we didnt get going now we wouldnt be going at all. So after a quick breakfast we were ready and out the door in record time (well for us anyway) BB was doing early entry every day during August and by the time we got there at just after 9am, there were already quite a few people there. There were also some non resort guests but they would have to wait until 9:30am to get in.
There was a lady at the gate selling bar codes for the refillable mugs so we got one of these then made our way into the park. We havent been to BB since 2004 so we were a bit unsure of where to sit. As we never use our chairs as more than somewhere to leave our stuff I picked 3 chairs near the bottom of the ski lift which turned out to be a good choice for us as they were quite central.
First up was the Ski lift to Summit Plummet, which was already showing a 10 minute wait. DD was going to try this for the first time so while everyone else got in the line I waited at the ski lodge bit to see how they got on. It was about this time that I realised in my zeal to get everyone up and out, that Id forgotten to put sun tan lotion on my back which (even after 10 minutes) was starting to burn.
There was a hold up on Summit Plummet as someone coming down the slide next to it had hurt themselves. The lifeguard at the bottom looks after both slides and he was taking care of the injured guest so Summit Plummet couldnt restart until the lifeguard was back in his chair.
It looked like the guest had hurt their ankle and she was taken away in a wheelchair. Once she was clear of the ride the lifeguard was back in his chair and the two slides re opened. DH went first with DD second, she said it was fantastic but she got a huge weggie. Once DS went down they hopped back on the ski lift and we all went on the toboggan run - I won that race but I think it had a lot to do with the fact that I got going while the rest of them were still faffing about. That was great fun and we were going to do the twisty toboggan run but spotted a tube raft race and as the line wasnt too bad we did that first. The boys won hands down with DH beating me, and DS beating DD. We came back up and did the twisty toboggan run but as I could feel my shoulders burning I let the gang go up and do this again while I went back to the chairs to get DHs t-shirt which I wore for the rest of the day. Just as the lads got to the bottom of the toboggan run there was an announcement that the family raft ride was now open so us (and half the park) legged it up the stairs and made our way over to it. There was about a 10 minute wait but it was worth it as this is a really fun ride. Next we went into the kids area where DD tried her best to climb over the icebergs using the rope and managed it after about 3 tries. DS never managed it and got very angry and annoyed with himself and started to get shouty. As it was about half 11 we decided to get something to eat and went over to the lodge for the usual chicken strips, burgers etc., the food was OK but there were lots of flies around which was real a pain. On the way we spotted an ice machine which had gone mad and there was ice everywhere. I told DS to get some ice and put it down the back of DHs shorts which he did. It cheered him up a bit and gave DH a frozen bum
.
After lunch we went in the lazy river which was fun and from there into the bobbing pool which wasnt that much fun as it was very busy. The kids wanted to go back into their area again which we did but told them we would leave the park when they had finished. They stayed there for about an hour or so and we eventually got them to leave just after 2pm. We went back to the room and got showered and changed for our dinner at Cape May. I had managed not to burn my back but the tops of my thighs had caught the sun and were very very red. Ill have to be careful tomorrow at Vero Beach.
Once we were changed and had a bit of a chill out, we drove to The Beach Club and valet parked as we were going to see illuminations afterwards. We were early for dinner so we had a look around the Beach Club then walked through to the Yacht Club doing a spot of pin trading as we went. I think out of the two resorts I prefer the Beach Club as it seems brighter and less posh then the Yacht Club (I think I would be worried about the kids making too much noise at the YC.) On the way back to the BC DS managed to walk too close to me and catch his toe on my sandal and ripped half his toenail off. It was bleeding and he was very upset. We went into a rest room and sorted it out as best we could. DS has an aversion to plasters and will not wear them so I had to make something out of some tissues. It didnt look too stylish but did the job.
We still had some time to kill and I needed to divert attention away from the bad toe so we stopped at the games room and blew $10 in about 5 minutes. By now it was close to our ADR so we made our way back to Cape May and had a 5 minute wait. The buffet looked good but apart from some beef there was nothing that DS would eat and he was very upset when they didnt even have ice-cream for desert. DH & I enjoyed our meal, the clams and muscles were nice and I had a lovely salad but because of the lack of choice for DS we wouldnt go back for dinner. In case you were wondering there were plenty of other choices for non shellfish eaters but shellfish was the main focus of the buffet. For desert there were 4 or 5 mini deserts and I had a lovely cheesecake and a chocolate thing which sat on top of an Oreo cookie.
We left Cape May around half 6 and caught the boat to Epcot which saved walking. We came in the international gateway and headed over to Soarin. We managed to score row 1 in the middle again and were next to a mother and her 3 daughters from Boston. It was their first time riding Soarin and they were really looking forward to it. It was another great flight and the Boston crowd thought it was the best ride ever. From Soarin it was over to Test Track and a tip here is to ride the single rider line as there is virtually no wait. For the first time ever we made it around the entire ride without stopping once and what a difference it made. The ride so much better but who knows if we will ever be that lucks again.
It was now time to find a spot for Illuminations and as we needed to exit through the International Gateway we choose a spot just to the right of the bridge between France and the UK on a 2 level terrace. Ive seen this spot before but sometimes it is closed for private parties. We picked the top terrace and the kids sat at the railing and played their Nintendos while they waited which was a great idea as they didnt moan once about the wait. I went and got them some coke and ice-cream and some coffees for DH & I. It wasnt long before the show started and it was as breathtaking as usual. Even seeing the world showcase all lit up before the show starts is special. The smoke was blowing directly towards the Future World side of the park and I felt sorry for anyone sitting over there as they wouldnt have seen much through the smoke.
Once the show had finished we made our way out and walked back to the Beach Club where we collected the car and made our way home. DH & I finished the packing and we were all tucked up in bed by half 10.
I forgot the camera this evening so there are no photos
