Wednesday 9th August
I was awake again 6am so did a spot of surfing and caught up on the trip reports. DH was next up and he had a bad headache. He said it came on around 2am and he had taken something then but it hadnt gone away. Unfortunately today was one of our firm days when we had a Dine with Shamu reservation. He took some more headache tablets and had a snooze for an hour, felt a bit better when he woke up so said hed come with us. We were late getting going and didnt get to Sea World until just before 10. We had taken advantage of the recent offer to get a 2 year AP so we had to exchange our AP vouchers for the real thing. This took a while, so it was more like 11 by the time we got to Kraken. If it had been any of the Disney parks the wait time by now would have been a week next Tuesday, but luckily at Sea World Kraken doesnt get really busy until the afternoon. DD who was getting braver by the minute decided to ride it but unfortunately she didnt quite measure up to the 54 height requirement.
Oh well there is always next year. DH was still feeling fragile so he couldnt go on and if you remember my saga with it last year youll know that wild horses wouldnt get me on the thing. So I got DS on to the ride then waited for him at the chicken exit. He had a great time and rode again. Next up we went over to Journey to Atlantis and as it was another walk on DS and DD got to ride twice.
We had decided to see three shows today - Clyde and Seymour, Believe and Pets Ahoy plus fit in our Dine with Shamu, and this is where the trouble started. DS was suffering the effects of too many parks with no rest days and was starting to go into meltdown mode. Trying to stick to a schedule of where we had to be at a certain time and also ensuring that we were there in plenty of time to get in was proving too much for him and he was getting very agitated and shouty about everything we needed to do. When we finished Atlantis we needed to make our way over for the 12:30 Clyde & Seymour show and DS was giving out and making strange noises the whole way. He also kept this up while we were waiting for the show to start and I was starting to get wound up but I knew he couldnt help it so tried to stay calm.
The mime artist came out and he was so funny one interesting thing though. DSs autism means he has no concept of facial expressions and is totally unable to read them, so he had no idea of what the mime artist was doing and found his act totally boring. DD, who has Aspergers (a milder form of autism) could understand some of his expressions but again, a lot of them meant nothing to her.
DH & I on the other hand couldnt stop laughing and it was worth coming to the show just to see him. Soon the actual show started and it was great, we have never seen it before but will try and include it on future visits. We made our way from this show and over to the Shamu Stadium for the 2:15 Believe show. Again DS was giving out the whole time and I thought Id have to leave the stadium with him at one stage but we made it to the start of the show. Again this was fantastic and I admit I had a tear or two while watching it.
When this show finished we went round to the entrance for Dine with Shamu and there were already a few people there. It was a bit of a wait in the hot sun and wasnt helped by DSs mood. DH took him off for a look at the Shamu underwater area while DD and I waited. It was so hot that they handed out glasses of iced water which were gratefully received. It was soon time to go in and I thought this was a great experience. We had table 11 right at the front & center and it was brilliant to watch the whales in free play.
The buffet was very good with a lot of choice and there was even turkey and some plain pasta for DS. Unfortunately neither he or DD ate much but they did have fun watching the whales and listening to the trainer. I would recommend this to any one and we will do it again.
When we left we were heading for the 5pm Pets Ahoy show and this is another favorite of ours and we all enjoyed the show. DS was giving out less, which was something. We were close to the Sky Tower and decided to have a ride. It was $3 each but free for us as we had an AP.
There was a fantastic view from the tops and you could see where they are clearing land for the new Sea World water park.
We had promised DS one more ride on Kraken which is probably why he had stopped grumbling and DD really wanted to see the Sea Lions Tonight show at 7:15pm. We figured that we might as well hang around for that so after DS had done Kraken they both went on Atlantis again. Unfortunately it experienced some technical difficulties as they were one car away from boarding but the delay didnt last too long. They were at the front and got soaked.
It was getting near the time for the last show and we made our way back to the Sea Lion and Otter Stadium. There was a different mime artist and he wasnt as funny as the one earlier but still good - again DS and no idea what was going on and was bored by him. This show was very funny as it was basically a mickey take out of all the other Sea World shows and well worth seeing. It finished at about quarter to eight and we finally left the park. It was a very enjoyable day - even with DS in meltdown mode, but a very long one. The kids were hungry but too tired to stop anywhere so we did a drive through McD and got them chicken strips, which we ate back at the villa. They didnt want to swim which must tell you how tired they were and just watched a bit of TV before bed. I caught up on the trippies and had to rest one of my legs on a chair as my ankle was swollen - probably a combination of the heat and over 10 hours on my feet.
Tomorrow is a rest day to give DS a chance to chill out and we might go to Old Town in the afternoon so that he can see if the Yu-Gi-Oh card shop is still there.
