August 19th

It’s finally here!! The day I have been counting down to for over a year!! I’m going to Disney for the first time in 2 LONG years!! Woohoo! Well, that was not exactly how I was when I woke up at 5am, but you get the idea. Anyways, we’re on our way to the airport by 6:30, yet our flight is at 10:15 and we live only 20 minutes from the airport. Why? You ask….I’ll explain.

About a week before our trip Air Canada laid off 400 workers who worked in ticketing and baggage, so there were fairly large delays. Then, the Thursday before my trip was the Blackout of 2003!! I was paranoid that our flight would be delayed or even worse cancelled. But thankfully all was sorted out before our vacation and our flight left on time J

So, we arrive in Orlando at 12:30, was a very fast flight at just over 2 hours, normally it takes 2 hours and 45 minutes to get to Orlando from Toronto. Mom, Penny & I went to claim our baggage and Dad went to get the rental car from Avis.

We were out of the airport by just after 1 and on our way to Coronado Springs! For anyone who knows me on these boards, you know I’m a diehard fan of CSR, heck I even started a FAQ thread about it J its sunny and beautiful when we arrive and my Dad goes to check in. We originally didn’t get the room requests we had made, but after pulling a few strings my Dad got our requests.

We were to have a room in Casitas 3, ground floor, and view of the lake, non-smoking. The only thing was that it wasn’t ready yet. We decided to hop in our car, grab lunch at the McDonalds near All Stars and go show Penny The Wilderness Lodge. We got to walk around the pool for all of 2 minutes before the heavens opened up and biblical rain ensued.

We were trapped in the Lodge for about half an hour (How horrible huh? ;) ) The rain didn’t stop but it at least calmed to a light rain, so my Dad sprinted off to get the car and picked us up. This was where the physic Father-Daughter connection came in…..ahem….in the words of my Father,

“Let’s doh goo!!”

First of all we all started laughing because it was the strangest sounding sentence we’d ever heard. Scarier still is I knew that he meant, Let’s go do Goodings…..Don’t ask how I knew but I did. Well, my Dad decided that the rain wasn’t coming down as hard and that we should go to the Publix in Kissimmee. It certainly wasn’t the wisest decision that we made because right when we got to what we thought was the exit the rain became so torrential that we couldn’t read any signs.

Somehow we ended up in Celebrations….and pulled over to let the rain calm down. It did anything but calm down, it was crazy, and we felt as though our car was about to surf right down the street!! Finally we arrived at Publix, did a quick shopping and called Coronado to find out that our room was indeed ready. Yay!!

We head back to Coronado Springs and my Mom suggests that we get a bellman to take us to our room in one of those little, actually they are very large, carts. So we meet Todd, who sees that not only do we have 8 bags but about 12 bags of groceries as well. He loads everything into the cart, pulls down the flaps on the side because it is raining and Voila! Mr. Todd’s Wild Ride. Man those carts can move quickly!! On the way we picked up my Dad who had parked the car. We got a whole little tour guide spiel about Coronado, it was so cute and as Todd kept driving and driving I felt he was going to drive clear into our room!!

Our room was amazing, 3143, it had been refurbished recently because the carpets, furniture and bed spreads were all new and different patterns than before. Incident # 1 happened about now, I was going to get some ice with my dad when I wiped out down a ramp. It was slippery and my flip-flops had no grip on them. Not fun in the slightest and had a bruised ego as well as a bruised butt! LOL

It was too rainy to head out anywhere so we wandered around El Centro, headed to the Pepper Market for dinner and then watched big brother 4!!

Stay Tuned for Day 2 ~ Could anything else go wrong?? ~
