So what exactly am I seeing when I see Tinkerbell fly from the Castle........

you are seeing Tinkerbell attached to a wire with a harness flying down the wire...and getting major "hazard pay" while doing it ;)

And she poses beautifully, with her arm outstretched, holding her wand, and a spotlight on her. Imagine all this while she's held by a little wire hundreds of feet above the ground. I'd be flailing my feet, yelling "Get me down, get me down"!

BradK You always crack me up!

I always thought it was a plastic Tink I had NO idea it was a real Tink! Even after seeing her, as an adult. I do not have the best vision though LOL.

as for part of the Remember.. fireworks in Disneyland, they installed a whole new system, akin to those flying cameras used in NFL games. basically she flies down from the Matterhorn, pauses in mid air. does some looping. i don't really know the details, but the idea was to emulate all those world of disney openings or whatever, where she'd tap the castle with her wand.

my oh so observant 5yo said "Why's there a cable attached to Tinkerbell??" and my quick thinking hubby responded "That's so the wind doesn't blow her away". Oy.

Actually, the new system has allowed Tinkerbell to go up and down and as mentioned pause in mid-air to tap the castle. She's also able to fly in the both directions. In RDCT, she actually appears twice, both during the beginning and the end of the show. It's really very dramatic especially when you see the fireworks in the background as she's flying over the castle while it sparkles or changes color! I've seen people with tears (myself included) after watching RDCT...

Here's a link to a video of RDCT, if you're interested:

The daughter of one of my clients had this job at WDW. She loved it!

The mother says "Tinkerbell" weighs in at a whopping 104 lbs and is a level 4 gymnist. She had a great time doing it for a couple of years. The pay was good, apparently.

Not a job I could do....although with me it wouldn't be that scary since the guidewire would be close to ground level based on weight.:

If I was the right weight, right height and had the right athletic ability, this would be my dream job!:tinker: I have loved watching Tinkerbell fly from the castle for as long as I can remember.

That is too cool. Disney, get that system in WDW, please!!!!

my that sig pic of southernbella looks familiar :)

True that Tink isn't always a "she"!! They apparently needed certain weight specs to make the slide appropriate and there have been "he" Tinks!!

Thank you for the Tinkerbell link, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the video!
