Timing of new tickets vs AP renewal

I searched for this specific situation but didn't find this exact scenario. I am a current AP which is set to expire September 3rd. I have a trip to WDW coming up in November 2017 and my FP selection day is September 5th. I also will be coming back to WDW in November 2018. In order to squeeze both of these trips into the same AP would it be best to let my current Passes expire, buy new park hopper tickets from undercover tourist now to make my FP Selections, then bridge the tickets to a new AP when I get to the park in November? I know I will lose the AP renewal discount and this runs the risk that they will end the 13 month promotion sometime between now and November.

The 13 month promo for NEW Annual Passes has already ended.
To get 13 months on a renewal, the renewal must be done before 10/1/2017.

Based on a trip in November 2017 and November 2018 (where both trips fall within a single 365 day period), it definitely makes sense to let your current AP expire.

However, you'd be even better off if you moved your November 2018 trip a bit earlier in 2018, so you could take advantage of the renewal discount too. I realize that's not always an option.

(Just for fun, a renewal discount of 15% is like getting 54 days "free.")
