Timing in Nassau - Atlantis

Never cruised before so we are doing a lot of homework. We are 2 adults, 3 kids

The DCL says it ports in Nassau at 9:30 am.

Do we need to pay the DCL for the Nassau excursion to Atlantis or can we simply grab a cab?
What is a realistic time to actually catch a cab?

Is it more cost effective to book a room at the Comfort Suites (~$250) to gain full use of the Atlantis pool & beach? That is where we would want to spend most of our time.

Are there other tips you can share?

With a party of five the most cost effective thing I believe is to rent two rooms at CS and seen if you can find three more people to help split the bill on the second room.
