A very helpful poster (thanks gap2368!) alerted me to the existence of Audio Description Devices that I plan to pick up for my vision-impaired mom each day. How much earlier should we get to the parks to pick this up and still be ready for rope drop? It looks like Guest Relations is outside the parks, right? I've never been to WDW so I don't know the setup, only what I see on their online maps. So if we get there a bit earlier we should be able to pick this up and get in line for rope drop?

I can't say about the device, but there are guest relations locations in several places, including outside of the park entrances and also inside. In MK, Main Street City Hall is a guest relations location for example. I am not sure if the devices you speak of are available at all locations though. I have never noticed the guest relations windows being exceedingly crowded before rope drop.

As mentioned, generally it's people with ticket issues using the outside the park window so many don't know they have an issue until after rope drop and then it gets crowded.

I also don't know about that device but the outside window is before ticket scanning so you may have to go to the inside guest relations (that also tends to have no line at first and should be quick at rope drop). stop at the outside the park window first though, you might get lucky.

I agree. My guess is they won't sign that out to you outside the park when you haven't even scanned to go in. Check but be prepared.

I do not believe the outside-the-park Guest Relations location will have the audio descriptive devices. I would plan on going to the inside-the-park location for this. You must return the device before leaving the park in order to get your deposit refunded, therefore I don't believe they'll have the devices available outside the gates. Several years ago my family used an assistive listening device and it was all taken care of within the park.

Enjoy your vacation!

Thank you all for the info! How much earlier do you think we should get to the parks to allow for this?

You won't be allowed in until everyone is allowed in at Rope Drop. I would be there to be near the front of the line to enter 30 - 45 minutes before scheduled opening.

I plan on getting an ALD too, did it work well for the person in your party that needed it?

you many want to talk to one of the CM and tell them you need to go to GR to pick something up they may and I do mean may let you in the park a few minute early ( they have done this for me one time when I had a need to take care of)but I would not expect this at all. but just like guest that need to get a DAS card or other things we just have to go in at RD. since your mom dose not need one for all the rids you could go do your RD rides then pick one up latter ( like if you want to RD
at the MK 7DMT,
at EPCOT TT, soaring, froze ever after,

or HS TSMM, RnR,

I would do any of these ride then stop by GR

In all honesty...no, it didn't. It was poor reception or the sound just wasn't clear, and often we couldn't get it to work. On CoP I finally figured out it was playing for the wrong view. We had it for a young child and it just ended up easier to do without. Maybe it was a bad unit; and this was several years ago so hopefully they have upgraded equipment since then.

Good luck and enjoy your vacation!
