Timing for faxing room requests

Is there a certain timeframe we should try to stick to when faxing room requests? I know you can do online check-in at any time, but if my trip is in May is it too early to fax a request now? I'm worried it may get misplaced since my trip is still over 3 months out. Does it make more sense to wait until about a month before? A week? This is the first time I'm trying this so I'm not sure if there are any guidelines to help with success.

It's not too early. They will add the information to your reservation when they get the request. They start doing room assignments several days before your arrival date, so you definitely don't want to wait until the last minute. I always have our TA add our request to our reservation and I also use the Touring Plans room request fax/e-mail service (making sure not to contradict anything that the TA has put on our reservation). I think TP sends them 3-4 weeks before arrival. You can also do a chat session and ask Disney to add the information to your reservation.

Well, supposedly they don't look at faxes any more so I wouldn't go that route. The "Overview" tab for a resort on disneyworld.com no longer has a fax number.

People here have said that Touring Plans now makes requests by email, not fax.

You should call W-407-WDISNEY and give them your room request. Or PP said you can do it by chat.

Thanks! I did the chat option last time and it never went through or at least never appeared to. Then *after* my trip I noticed I had gotten a reply that told me my request was impossible because what I was asking for didn't exist. I was staying in a Cars suite at AoA and asked for a room facing the pool and they told me that no Cars suites faced the pool. The rep must not have realized the Cars section has its own pool and some of the rooms most certainly do face it. Anyway, I don't really trust the chat lol.

Many other threads on here indicate fax is no longer an option. For somplace as busy as Disney, I would think fax would be a very clumsy way to handle room requests. Too easy for them to get lost, fax machine busy or out of paper, etc. I doubt when you submit your request has any bearing of how successful you will be. The apparently assign rooms shortly before your trip so clearly you want to get it submitted before then.

We have used the online drop-down boxes in the past to do a room request and worked well. The advantage to online chat is you generally avoid the lengthy wait associated with calling Disney. If you get someone who doesn't seem to understand your request, I would just try again a few hours later and most likely you will get someone else. The various Disney customer service people tend to be all over the map regarding their skill level or interest in being helpful. Many just seem to fling out answers to questions they don't know rather then look up something since they figure they will never hear from you again.

Most fax machines are virtual now so no worry that they will run out of paper or get misplaced. I find that the virtual faxes we receive at work are easier to handle than emails. That said, I place my request on my initial reservation and don’t bother with it again. I am at WDW. That is what matters the most.
