Hi, im after some advice my friend has offered me her RCI timeshare, she cant afford to use it at the moment and asked if we wanted it, we of course know all about Disney and dvc but not anything about other timeshares, she has a red week ..... Doesnt mean a lot to me though, im going to look into it but wondered if anyone had rci or similar scheme, i think its changed to points as well but again dont know a lot about it, the dues are only around 300 per year so quite cheap if it means a week somewhere in Florida or occasional Europe.
Any websites anyone knows of to explain in laymans terms.....lol?
I have 2 weeks timeshare at the Radisson at Golden Bay in Malta in Platinum Season this is actually July, August & September. The hotel is fantastic with a lovely sandy beach.
RCI appears to be an exchange company, without further details it is difficult to help you. You need to find out at which resort your friend has and if it is just points or a particular week? Another exchange company is Interval International, which is the company I am a member of. My timeshare is with the Radisson at Golden Bay in Malta. My dues are about £450 for each of the two weeks, if I want to stay in the Radisson I just request the weeks that I want, giving them 3 options. Once allocated I can use them or swap them with another member of Interval International, who charge me about £150 to arrange an exchange. Personally I bought them to use in Malta and not to swap.
Most resorts that are not on points are usually on a fixed week, great if you have a week in a holiday period, not so good if you have kids at school and say the week is in school term time. If on points system, they can increase the number of points required to have a week, so one can land up paying for more points every few years just to get a week. Obviously the more points the higher the dues are.
Be very careful about taking on your friends timeshare, you could find that the dues increase drastically unless they are capped. Also is it in a resort that you would wish to use and at the time of year that you would be suitable to you? If the week is to be used to swap, make sure that the week is in the time of year that is sort after and the location is sort after, otherwise it could be an expensive white elephant.
Do you really want to commit to a timeshare in this current climate? We have bought two weeks in a one bedroom deluxe sea view apartment sleeps 4 in two rooms with a full kitchen inc dishwasher, maintenance charges are just over £450 for each week we own. Currently one can rent a week in someones timeshare in August in an identical unit for £685; yes that is £235 more than the dues, but without the outlay for the purchase and no commitment. Yes rents are currently at rock bottom and in time they will go up.
