My parents are thinking about using their RCI points and going to disney world where myself, my wife, and son would join them. Once they book their week how does the park admission work? Would we book through RCI or DVC? Or do we book on our own? Is the pricing the same as if we didnt stay in the timeshare?

They would book DVC through RCI; only DVC owners can book directly. They would pay their normal RCI exchange fee and also an additional $95 DVC fee.

They should understand the exchange process thoroughly before starting. DVC is not easy to exchange into, and they may need to do an "ongoing search."

Your party will receive all normal onsite guest perks, including ME, EMH, and free parking at all theme parks. You will also be eligible for the Disney Dining Plans if one of those meets your needs.

Your lodging cost should be substantially less expensive than booking an onsite hotel, if that's what you are asking. They'd basically be paying about $300 for the week + whatever the week they are exchanging cost them.

Theme park admission tickets are purchased separately, regardless of where you stay.

So the park admission and dining plan is a separate transaction from the room reservation?

OH YEAH!!!! :scared1:

Better check the pricing of the entire package before you make any plans. WDW is very expensive.

Oh i know. I have done a non vacation club trip before. I am trying to figure out how we would purchase our park admission and dining plan as well as the cost so we can budget as the trip wont be till 2014.

You can buy your tickets directly from Disney or go through a discounter such as undercovertourist.com. I have used them in the past until we discovered we can get a better discount on Disney tickets through DH's employer. If you subscribe to the MouseSavers' free monthly email newsletter you will have access to ticket discount codes.

If you want the dining plan you would set that up with DVC Member Services after you secure your trade.

OP - The paperwork you will receive from RCI after DVC is booked will have telephone number for DVC's Member Services.

MS will help you add one of the Dining Plans or Magical Express if you want either of those services. They will also arrange for you to pay the $95 fee DVC charges those who exchange into DVC. They can also note any room requests you may have (not guaranteed) and give you the DVC reservation number so that you can make your own dining ADRs. MS can make those for you if you so choose.

As already mentioned, you can buy your theme park admission on site or from any authorized ticket broker.

Carol,

Thanks! Is the pricing the same for the meal plan if I was staying at a "regular" Disney resort?

Seeing as you're a fairly new DVC owner, please take the time to read how DVC works. There are many helpful stickies on this group that will help you.

The OP is not an owner. He may be staying at a DVC resort at some point if his parents are able to trade in through RCI.

I am not an owner. My parents are owners of an RCI timeshare so they are semi familiar with the process.
