Has anyone done the timeshare presentation at Bonnet Creek? If so, what do they give you? Also, can a single person do it, or do you have to be married??

I own Wyndham (resale), and love the product. The resorts are great and the point system is reasonably flexible (though less so than it was).

But the sales staff is a horrid pack of lying weasels. I would never wish a presentation on my worst enemy, let alone a friend on the DIS.

Do not buy from Wyndham. Ever. Buy resale. Save thousands.

Right on! Great resorts, great product, horrible sales & customer service. Never, ever, buy retail - get one of the great bargains in all of timesharing by buying the deeply discounted (-90% or MORE) resale points.

Wow! It sounds like a high pitched sales presentation! We have done the Marriott one and they were pretty nice when we declined! You get an awesome deal on their villas if you listen to the presentation (about 1/2 off). Do they give you anything at Bonnet Creek??

Of course. You get $75-$100 worth of dinner credit cards or tickets or maybe even cash. And of course an earful of complete fabrications and misrepresentations about why you should buy retail for 90%+ over the cost of resale. Oh, and the "glories" of being VIP (which apparently is some kind of special code for "sucker"). You can learn about the FSP (Fair Share Plus) Points system which you would get as a resale owner as well - that is the key to Wyndham and worth learning about. Just don't fall for the hard sell and "retail value" pitch as you will pay WAY too much if you do.

Can anyone tell me more about re-sale. This whole timeshare thing is so new to me. I have just rented Bonnet Creek from Ken Price for Feb. My hubby and I were saying we wish we knew more about timeshares, and costs and so on to look into more, but know nothing about it. Could anyone tell me anything, costs, what it is? and so on. Brian could you be of any help here. It looks like going away in the winter is something we would like to do everyyear, just need to be lead in the right direction, and some background info. We would probably only us at the most 2 weeks every year, but I have big extended family that would possibly use the rest. Does that sound right? Please P.M if you would like!

Listen to the advise of the pp. We are owners too (several contracts, all through resale). The agents at BC are brutal, avoid at all costs.

Of course they are - they are in Orlando thus "raised by wolves" (Wastegate sales weasels set the bar). Be very careful and never ever buy Wyndham retail no matter where you hear the tall tales.

We are at Bonnett Creek right now - we booked on the Wyndham site for 3 nights. They upgraded us from a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom, and still haven't asked us to do a timeshare tour yet  . I thought for sure when we checked in, and were told to go to the a different desk to get our parking pass, it would be a spiel to make an appointment, but no! Yahoo! The place is very nice, and we would definitely stay here again, especially since nobody is hounding us to take a tour.

We just got back, and I had forgotten about that! :rotfl2: That was definitely my first thought too. ::yes::

I booked through an owner, so I assumed that came up when I went for my parking pass and that was probably why they left me alone. :confused3

I loved Bonnet Creek, but I see those points on ebay for resale all the time. Thus far, I've been able to rent so cheaply off ebay that I haven't been tempted to buy points, but when I'm able to travel more than I do now (a couple of weeks a year), I think I'll be interested too.

One thing about timeshares that I have found is that for us we have ALWAYS been able to find a place to rent that is a timeshare for much less than we would be paying to own because of the yearly maintenance fees. Those yearly fees can range anywhere from $200 a year up and most of them that I've seen are in the $500 - $1000 a year.

With the internet it is possible to find a rental for less than that and not be tied into a specific resort or company.

On the other hand, those that have them love them. For me, though, I could never understand laying out a ton of money and then still having to pay each year....particularly in Orlando.

As an example, I'm renting at Bonnet Creek in Feb. for about $100 a night. I am pretty sure that is less than the owner is paying for the yearly maintenance fee there.

I've also had other deals over the years at places like Marriott's Grande Vista, Sheraton's Vistana and Orange Lake where I have rented a full week in 2 bedroom villas for under $300....with no commitment on my part.

Just be very careful if you ever do decide to buy one.

Have a great trip!

Wyndham is very different than most other timeshares and each owners costs are different. $100/night is more than my maintenance fees for a Bonnet Creek stay (even for a 3 BR and maybe for the 4BR); however, for another owner the cost might be higher. Depends on level of ownership and where your points are deeded.
