Timeshare exchange to DVC Resort?

I believe that II has a regional block for DVC, meaning that if you are using another Orlando week (such as a Marriott), you will not be allowed to trade into DVC at WDW, but could trade into DVC Vero Beach or DVC HHI.
What I don't know is if you own DVC, if the "block" is waived b/c you are already an owner at DVC. You could call II and ask them about the Orlando regional block.
RE. OP, as others have said, your chances of pulling DVC with a Branson week for that time is close to nil--however, there are many very nice Orlando resorts. I would consider expanding your search to at least include MArriotts, as well.
While normally II will waive regional blocks trading within a single system or resort, this is not true when crossing from one company to another. So even one who owns DVC can't get around the regional block.

One other point. A couple of references above mention red weeks. Red is not red. Whether one is trading a red week really has little meaning unto itself. Think of various shades of pink, red to bright red and you'll have a much better idea.

Thanks Dean.
It is amazing how you know so much about the whole timeshare system.

I often feel that i am not using my MVCI to the full advantage.

You are likely correct. What resort and season do you own and how would you prefer to use it?

We have a week at Cypress harbour -considered Sport season. We ususally deposit the week and I request for 3 options within the Marriott system for the Pres. week. My request usually includes Cypress Harbour and 2 other MArriott resorts. We always get Cypress harbour, which has been fine but DH would like to go somewhere else like the carribbean. We also have DVC points, so I was thinking to trade that, but it sounds as if (from your previous posts) that it will not give me an advantage. We have been using our DVC points for other things like trips to HHI, the member cruise, upstate NY trips to the Sagamore.

Any suggestions?

tug2.net is "timeshares user group." If you scroll down the BB, you will find a MArriott BB with lots of MArriott owners who can give lots of info about maximizing your Marriott timeshare. You definitely want to take advantage of the Marriott internal trading preference.

CH does not have lockoff's so that's one issue that you don't have to adjust for. As noted, you can't trade CH for DVC. But you will have an advantage for most trading, esp to other Marriott's. Make sure you reserve AND deposit as early as possible. Only do request first if you plan to use your week if you don't match. Then request what you want at least 13 months out for other Marriott's. CH does fine on resort quality but suffers from an oversupply as do all Orlando properties other than DVC to a degree. The specific week you select is key for Orlando. You should research which weeks are the strongest but looking at the Calendar for CH, I'd guess that Thanksgiving (wk 47) along with weeks 22, 23 & 34 would be some of the stronger ones. When you normally travel should play a roll so if you normally travel in Summer, you want to get a fall week to give you an extra year to use it at a time that you normally travel. Putting the effort into research, reserving and planning will ultimately determine how well this works for you. You also need to be realistic and flexible realizing that, for example, a 2 BR in Maui for Xmas is out of reach for essentially everyone.

My head is still spinning. I need to go back to Timeshare 101.
