Timeshare Closing asking for ss#

This is not true. Ask your guide to double check it. As others have reported, I also asked about not giving SS#. It is not necessary for the purchase. It is required for financing but if you are paying cash, they don't need it. Not for the deed, not for taxes. Property taxes are on DVC, not on the owners. DVC then collects from owners via annual dues.

They also don't need it for MS verifications. They can use other data or set up a pssword.

Don't give it out. The fewer places that number is written down or stored, the better.

I expressed that I did not want to give our SS#s, we are paying via one of our credit cards, so not cash and not financing through DVC.

I was told by our Guide that we HAD to give our SS#s or we couldn't purchase through DVC. She said that it is required for the deed and for the year-end property tax statement.

I would love to hear from anyone who purchased without giving SS#s what their payment type was, the amount, and if they purchased at DL or WDW.

Thanks!

Just an update. I just got my closing documents from the title company and it stated I needed to put my SS# on one. After calling, I found out I am not required to put that information on the document and was told it was just there to forward on to Disney. It was not a problem for us not to provide it at all. It may slow things a bit a Disney, but I don't mind at all if it means I don't have that information out there. Just stating our experience. This is a cash transaction of less than $10K.

ARGH I am so angry that I was lied to about this. No way my guide will get it out of the system now, even if she were able to I do not believe that she would do it. I am more upset about being flat-out, deliberately lied to then I am about them having our SS#s.

Should I file a complaint about the guide to someone at Disney? I'm open to suggestions!

I'm in a similar situation. I just got my closing documents today and there's a page called "New Owner Set-up Information" requesting my name, SS#, and phone numbers. It has the following paragraph:

The resort requires that we provide them with identification from you to help protect your
account privacy. This information will also be helpful in the event that you choose to
participate in any rental programs and an IRS 1099 form needs to be issued.

I don't really want to give out my SS# but I also don't want to delay the process at all (We're going to Disney in January and I want to be able to get a reservation ASAP once this deal closes!!!). Not sure what I'm going to do. But the docs are going out in the mail tomorrow one way or another!:confused3
