actually the Kid's play and geared for kids argument does not hold water because VMK is open 10 am est til 1 am est. Well that is all good for the continental US but what about Hawaii and other counties like the UK where when it is 10 AM here it is 3 pm there and most of the time VMK is open UK children are asleep. UK visitors to WDW are a very high percentage of the Vistor population. I sure someone has exact numbers, but I do know that it is high. Also High on the vistor population list is South America.
Hawaii VMK opens at 4 am Alaska it opens at 6 am
Also France where there is a Magic Kingdom also if they want to play there VMK does not open until 4 pm so they only get 6 hours game play in that country.
Hong Kong it opens at 10 PM closes at 1 pm leaving them with only 4-5 hours game play
here is a link to other World Cities and their times
If the whole point of VMK is to get kids age 8-14 wanting to go to WDW and DL shouldn't VMK be open 24/7.
I also don't think the CM theory hold much steam either since on the West coast VMK closes at 10 pm....and CM's can be anywhere to monitor a Computer Internet Game.
According to Yavn, the game is closed for those 9 hours to make updates to the system.
Also, (don't lynch me, this is just what VMK said) this game was designed for American players. I hate even saying it, but they didn't create the game for people in other countries, so they only have their American players in mind when they planned the hours of operation.
Too bad they don't spend those 9 hours answering emails or fixing things like my birthday bug (We can't change your birthday, sorry).
According to my VMK VIP tour guide, the reason it's not open 24/7 is due to staffing and needing to use the downtime to boot changes into the game. When they started VMK they weren't sure how it was going to be received so they didn't want to commit a lot of money or resources to it. Now that it's taking off in popularity, who knows what the future will hold for it.

It's true. I came back from Tokyo Disneyland a few weeks ago and there is no sign of VMK at all. I was shocked. I thought they said kids from all over the world participate in VMK. I was there for the 16th and 17th and I had to wait until 11pm local time for VMK to open.
As I stated in an above post I do not beleive that either of these are the reason for the down time.
1) staffing -too expensive to pay 24/7
2) they would never "boot changes" directly into the game. They have several backup copies that they try changes in before anything is implimented into the game. Because if they didn't they could have a major "OOPS" on their hands if they put something into the game and it comflicted with something already in it.
I really do hope that VMK goes 24/7 but I can not see that happening anytime soon.
