Time to take the fish

to the vet again  IS there any type of fish that is easier to take care of and has a longer life span than a betta?

We have mollies. Got 4 for ds' birthday in March (well, in Feb...Gramma was here). They had babies, and of the 15 babies they had in March, one is still alive today. It is the only fish we have though. All the others have died. Do you really 'take it to the vet?' Doesn't your dd notice that it is dead?

The only vet my fish have ever seen is the one at the bottom of the toilet bowl.

She thinks her fish hybernate.

I don't know about other fish, but our betta's seem to live forever.... they have been around about 3 years (a LOT longer than I expected). My DS could care less they are even here, and if it wasn't for DH they would never be fed :) I only change the water about every 4 months too. They just keep kickin'

Okay. I've got a cute "fish story". When my sis was a wee tot she won a couple of goldfish somewhere. She brought them home and put the bowl on her dresser. Couple days, maybe a week later, there's Grits floating at the top of his bowl. Sis was devastated. Next thing I know she has posted a sign at the bottom of her bedroom door "No Cats Allowed!" :rotfl2:

My beta lasted 2 years - I went away on vacation and left my brother in charge of him and when I came back he had blown up like a balloon and died. Is your fish being overfed? They really don't eat much.

My betta just died today.... :sad1: We got him in May. So we had a burial at sea and a memorial service for "Bob" today

Around here, we have the longest living crawfish.

For the past 3 or so weeks, we've fed them, but they survive in the sludge of their own filth. Thay have those little flattened marbles, which they move around. Funny too, they POP up out of the water, or just redecorate....

No, wait, my mistake. Dear Son did change the water and rinse the tank last weekend....

I'm still waiting....

Our betta is 2 years old. He is in our aquarium with our tropical fish and doing quite well. Sorry yours died. :guilty:

Longlived Bettas here also. They thrive on general neglect. They are in a large vase with a plant. We only use Poland Spring water and a water conditioner to change water every 3 months. They don't get fed much. Their vases are away from the window so they don't get too cold. HTH.

Up until this last one we have had a horrible time with Bettas. I have delt with ICK, finrot, and something else I can't remember. We have spent 4 times as much for meds on the fish then what they were worth. The one we have now had fin rot but he recovered for now.
