I am leaving for the mothership in a few days. Since I haven't flown with pins in over a year I need some advice. We are trying not to check luggage, and even if we did, I figure a pin bag with the new screening devices will merit a search of my checked stuff. So what is your best guess. Take a lanyard or two, a small pin bag? Carry it on? Check it?

Last year when we flew we had our pins in our carry-on. Security at Richmond was very thorough in going through the pins.

Even without the heightened security, I wouldn't want to have my pins in my checked baggage in the event that the baggage might get lost. If TSA is going to search my bag full of pins, I'd rather they do it in front of me where I might notice if something accidently fell out.

Absolutely do NOT put pins (or anything of value) in checked luggage! All checked luggage must be sent unlocked and is subject to inspection. Hate to say it, but there is no guarantee that your pins will still be there at the end of the flight.

I always put my pinbag in my carry on bag, but I take it out and put it through security in a plastic bin because they always search the pin bag. That eliminates having the entire carry on bag searched.

Have a GREAT time!!!!:D

(bring back some good traders :teeth: )

Just went through the security in Providence on Wednesday and had all my pins in the pin bag and since it was rather quiet I said to the guy at the security area when ptiing the pins on the belt that there were pins in it incase they atopped it and it wentthrough with no problems! the girl checking must have heard me
coming home on April 2nd from MCO should be interesting!

Orlando is easier to get through as they see a lot more pin bags. They still look but don't take as long. I will tell you this. DON"T leave your digital camara in the pin bag with the wire attached to the camarma to download to your CP... Take it from me... You will see what security really looks like at an airport.

Nat, was it something like this?

Sorta... But the 3rd guy next to the guy in the blue shirt was a lefty...

I WAS OKAY WITH MY PINS, BUT I HAD A TINY SET OF PLIERS IN MY PIN BAG FOR WHEN MY PINS BEND.

THAT SET OFF ALL SORT OF ALARMS. THEY ALLOWED ME TO KEEP THEM, BUT THEY LOOK ALOT LIKE SCISSORS ON THE XRAY.

I WAS NOT ALLOWED ON THE PLANE UNTIL EVERYONE ELSE BOARDED.

AND I USUALLY KEEP SCISSORS IN MY PIN BAG FOR CUTTING DOUBLE SIDED TAPE - I DID REMEMBER TO TAKE THESE OUT THE LAST TIME.

Just back from a trip to WDW beginning of march..
Had my hard to find pins with me in hand luggage from munich to Philadelphia to Orlando and back and two large pin backs in my checked luggage without any problems.. they will check your pin book but this is done in 3 minutes.... I was never asked to open my checked luggagage and all went absolutely well !

Just to clarify...

They do not need to ask permission to inspect checked baggage. The last couple of times I have flown, I have found a note in my suitcase stating that it had been opened and inspected. I am guessing that this is because of my metal hair dryer. If your suitcase is locked, they have to authority to break the lock in order to inspect the contents.

I think Stephan was very lucky...I wouldn't risk putting anything I value in my checked luggage.

And to NH Mickey thanks for the laugh.

I will be a "smaller than normal" fish this time with a tiny bag and two lanyards. This is mostly due to our airport stopping every single car yesterday and searching them, before entering. There was a reported 3 mile backup at one point.

I am now worried that we'll be stuck in two different lines and won't make the flight.

I figure the smaller the bag, the less time spent searching.;)
