Has anyone ever rented a timeshare? I saw one on the internet that looked fantastic for $850 / week.

yes - but check over sources first.

www.skyauction.com
click on USA/Canada then
Click on Florida (to the right side) then
Click on Hotels Only (right bottom)

the ones with 7 days - are timeshares that you can bid on. Sometimes you can find a bargin - a great resort that no one else has bid on and it is about to close. sometimes you can't find anything. other times everything is overpriced (my opinion).

remember to add $195(exchange fee) + $15 (transfer fee) to the bid

if you don't like to bid - but what something to compare prices with

www.condodirect.com

if the timeshare you are interested in - is on this site and you are paying less for it - then go for it!!

You can even rent DVC villas - Disney Vacation Villas - OKW, VWL, BCV, BWV and SSR. they are more expensive most of the time than other timeshares.

Another vote for Skyauction. We used them for the first time for our November trip. We got a week in a huge 2-bed, 2-bath unit for $261 and were 3 miles door to door from the Disney parks.

my lord, please please please do not pay that much, you should go to skyauction.com

as long as the skyauction inventory remains it is a good deal

but, there seems to be less and less of the good timeshares showing up as owners are complaining about the "deals" people ( general public ) are getting when they have a substantial investment tied up in the timeshare ownership

Timeshares are great to rent. Do it all the time. 8 weeks this year. Definately do not pay that much. You can do far better. Skyauction is great but not as much inventory not because of owners complaints, skyacution could care less, but because it has become real popular from recommendations on this board and others so inventory goes fast.

Thanks for the advice. Ya'll have saved me so much money this past year. Where else can you look to rent a timeshare other than sky auction?

We've rented 2x now through www.tug2.net (timeshare users group), click classifieds, then orlando for rent and all the postings for the locations and dates will be posted with descriptions, prices and contact info.

as I say
www.condodirect.com

and

www.redweek.com

but skyauction will be cheaper. It rents the timeshares for less than their owners pay in maintence fees. and no it doesn't care what the owners think because it gets it stuff from RCI - the exchange company owners use. the think that the timeshares are doing is also using II. but as long as owners put their timeshares in RCI they could show up on skyauction. It also has a relationship with other hotels and timeshares not in RCI (like most of Westgate).

so as long as the majority of owners put their timeshares in RCI - skyauction will be around.

well i am an owner and i don't complain, people are renting out their weeks, and getting paid it is no one's business and for the owners who want to complain, they should grow up, no one forced them to buy,
they need to realize it is not up to them the main objective of the resort is profit, i stayed at a diffrerent property, and paid a total of 215.00 for 7 nights,

some profit is better then no profit, they are there to make money, if they have the space, by all means, list it and use it,

By the way i own at Orange Lake, but i have never seen themon skyauction, anyone know why? Curious

OL is on skyauction.

that is part of the problem - the timeshares aren't getting the money - most of skyauction goes to RCI....if the timeshare were getting the money that would probably make everyone happy. they aren't. Unless they themselves are on skyauction listed as hotels - like Westgate and a few others.

however if owners didn't trade their weeks through RCI - then skyauction would fall apart - but that is not happening.

I get better trades for my timeshare that belong to both RCI and II - through II much better - however I am not in the majority. Most timeshares get better trades through RCI. As long as that is happening (it is not nearly as good as it once was) - RCI will get the majority of traders.

Happy Lawyer

Orange Lake "used" to show up on skyauction, but have not seen it in a long long while...perhaps a lot of Orange Lake weeks are now going to RCI Points as it has been mentioned on TUG many points owners have been able to exchange into a week at OL for as little as 9,000 ( within the 45 day window RCI has set up )...even viastana is not showing up as much now...only one auction for various dates showing up now...

RCI points only values a week at Orange Lake in the points system at 44,000 for a 2 bedroom 2 bath ( at least that is what we were told we would get if we joined a points system resort and deposited our weeks in "points" instead of "weeks"

we own at Orange Lake also weeks 51 and 52 .....every 5 years we get a free week 53...( this week seems to have good trading power for some reason )

so i as an "owner" am not complaining,

we use skyauction a lot ...why buy another timeshare when you can get them so cheap and not have to worry about maintenance fees, taxes, exchange fees ( 149$ ) and RCI membership fees, skyauction definately is a bargain and as long as they have "good" inventory we will still use them

as a matter of fact, just got back from las vegas and used skyauction to get a week at the Fairfield Grand Desert ( alas this timeshare is not showing up any more on skyauction ..would love to book it again )

was just observing and reporting back what "developers" ie salesmen, at various resorts where we have stayed, are saying...

and it seems to be reflected in the inventory showing up now....

even Vacation Village which is overbuilt and has a lot of excess inventory does not show 2 bedrooms ....in a recent search they showed only one two bedroom for the month, but lots of one bedrooms both full and partial Kitchens ( the lock out ... partial kitchen is by far the worst exchange value either in RCI or skyauction )

the inventory that skyauction is getting should "not" be from "exchanges" that owners make, but should come from excess inventory or developer weeks not tied to an actual owner

also agree with spiceycat, the exchanges that we are seeing with our weeks are not as good as they used to be, however, as long as we do not have to rely upon the RCI vacation counselors to book exchanges, we seem to have gotten some good "exchanges" in the past 2 years...

e.g. Vistana Villages, Oasis Lakes ( now a different name ) HGVC at Seaworld, Houses at Summer Bay, Embassy Suites at Grand Beach and Faifield Bonnet Creek just to mention a few which we have been able to "exchange" by checking for ourselves on the RCI website

we are not knocking skyauction, they are a good add on to the weeks we do have....to supplement our vacations
