We live in Austin and saw one of the "deals" was $69 for either 4 or nights for a time share (Good Neighbor i believe). Of course, it sounds too good to be true. I have sat through these once before (in San Antonio) and I know the routine. My question is my husband will be deployed and will not be able to attend. I called them and they said it was a no go...

Does anyone work with military families or is it totally not worth it? Thanks guys!!

Timeshares will almost NEVER give a presentation to one half of a couple (or a single person for that matter). Part of their sales tactics involve playing the spouses off each other. Also, with half the decision makers absent, they know that sale won't get made. Note that it doesn't matter if it is the husband or wife away; they want both.

I wouldn't get too upset by this; do your really want to waste a half day of short vacation sitting through a timeshare presentation? I like to spend every minute I can having fun.

Thanks for the response...for $69 and 5 nights i wouldn't mind sitting through it...military families look for deals. thanks.

Some timeshare companies will accept a notarized power of attorney from an absent spouse to be assigned to the spouse who is attending a presentation. I don't know if this is wide-spread though I suspect it's not. I've had that suggested to me during a call from one of the hotel corporation-based timeshare seller - probably Hilton but it may have been Marriott or Sheraton. Might be worth asking the question if you really want to follow the timeshare presentation route.

I think most families, military or not could use a good deal for vacation. However, I would suggest looking on various travel websites. Plug in your dates and you may be surprised at some of the deals that are out there where a timeshare presentation isn't necessary. Look around on the disboards. People give plenty of suggestions and advice on various hotels and resorts. Back in January I found a deal on a 2 bedroom at Caribe Cove resort for only $79 a night. It also came with a free upgrade to a 3bedroom. So I was getting a 3 bedroom unit!! Now since then, they haven't ran that special again, BUT the rate does not require me to sit thru a timeshare presentation. There are many deals to be had out there. Just keep reading here on the DIS Boards for suggestions. Also, does the military offer any discounted rates for travel? Even if your hubby is deployed, you may qualify for military rates. I know MOST hotel websites offer a discounted rate for military. I don't know what credentials are required. I hope someone who is also part of military family comes along and chimes in. There are many options out there besides having to sit thru a timeshare. And as the other poster said, most places will not allow you to book under the special rate if your hubby is not present. Good luck. Keep reading the disboards, especially the Orlando hotels thread. You are bound to find suggestions which will benefit your circumstances and before you know it, you will be on vacation, and not required to waste your valuable time at a timeshare presentation!! Good Luck!! :cool1:

I am only paying $650 all taxes and fees includes and free internet for Cypress Pointe Grand Villas for 13 nights. That is only $50/night for a 2 bdrm condo, and we love this resort! It is so close to everything. Yes we rent a car, but the price for the condo balances that out! I have a great timeshare guy I have used numerous times! I wouldn't sit through a presentation when I could rent from an owner for less or the same!

As posters have stated, most timeshare places will not give you the deal alone. That is because both sides must be there to sign on the dotted line if interested. If only one person is there, they know there absolutely will not be a sale and it will be a total waste of time.

Look on mousesavers.com as well. A lot of times they have some great deals.

how does one find a time share guy? :confused3
I may consider the Armed Forces Vacation Club which is between $350-399 for 7 nights...as far as travel websites are you referring to ones like expedia and travelocity?

go with the above - several of these are timeshares from RCI - so you can get one a little cheaper than what you are talking about.

best yet since you are going thru the exchange system you do not have to listen to any sales pitches unless you want too

Check out TUG (timeshare users group). We just rented out our 7 day two bedroom unit at an RCI gold crown resort for $600 during March Break. Timeshare owners will rent under the forums board and then under rentals. You can find some terrific bargains there, plus you do not have to spend any of your vacation time taking a tour. Good luck!
