Time Off?

At my job just over a year now. I earn vacation and sick time on a PTO plan. Each pay period, I earn 7.07 hours (I think) of PTO. It really adds up fast, and in just over a year, I have taken off 9 days, and still have 110 hours available at this time. It all carries over from year to year (CA law says the company has to allow us to carry over all our PTO). I think my PTO cap is like 1.5 times my annual accrual. I am not worried at this time since I am not there yet, but it is nice having my current little cushion. Although, I will be using another 40 of it in Feb. :goodvibes I just wish they stopped acting like I should only take a day here or there (instead of a week at a time for a real vacation) or that they would stop telling me the time I want to take is not really convenient (that was the Sept trip and November jury duty summons).:confused3
 
I've worked at my company for 32 years. Our benefits are seniority based.

I get 28 days vacation

8 regular holidays

3 personal holidays--birthday, hire date and floating holiday

24 weeks full pay sick time

14 weeks half pay sick time

Even with our generous sick time the most of the employees use 5 sick days or less per year. There are 86 hourly employees and 37 of those didn't use any sick days last year.
 
Ours is based on years of service. Every 5 years your time goes up. We get PAL (paid annual leave) every check, so 26 times per year. I get 10.87 hours per pay period, or 282.62 hours = 7 weeks, per year. I will get 1 more "raise" in time at my next 5 year mark which will be my 20th year, then we do not get any more raises in time. PAL is used for all of your time off, vacation, sick, holidays etc. As we are a 24/7 operation if we take off on a holiday we have to use our PAL time, if we work we do not get extra PAL time. We can carry over 320 hours per year, this is down from 465 last year. So it's use it or lose it. We can also trade PAL hours to help pay for our insurance.
 
Vacation: 4 weeks paid
Sick days: none
Holidays: we all get Christmas off and can volunteer to work Thanksgiving for overtime pay.

Vacation time based on how long you've been continuously employed. Which sucks if you take extended time off for such things as a long illness, pregnancy, Family Act leave, etc. Because you get taken out of the system and are treated as a "new hire" when you return. That sucks major.

FMLA should prevent them from doing that now. I don't think they can legally take away benefits if you are on an approved FMLA leave. I believe you must be kept at the same benefit level as an active employee.

We get 1 week after a year, 2 weeks after 5 years, 3 weeks after 10, and top out at 4 weeks after 15. We get 6 sick days and 6 holidays per year.

9-15 years 4 weeks
1-24 years 5 weeks
25+ 6 weeks

18 sick days per year and they accumulate up to 1056 hours

I get 4 weeks a year plus 8 holidays but that has to cover both vacation and sick time. I can flex my time for things like doctors appts and I'm hardly ever sick so most of that time is used for vacations.

It is seniority based, and although I have 16 years in with my employer, I've come and gone several times so I only get to count 3 years toward seniority.
 
I started in 2005 and began earning 10.5 hours of personal time a month; now I earn 12.25 hours each month and 6.5 hours of major medical leave. I get 1 week at Thanksgiving, 2 weeks at Christmas, Spring Break and most state/federal holidays. The hours and time off are the main reason I accepted the position. I work at a community college.
 
Our time off is based on years of service. I'm currently at that max of 6 weeks of vacation. We also get 11 or so paid holidays (half fixed like the 4th and the rest our choice). Sick days as needed ( 3 days without dr's note and at the mgr's discretion if abused (like sick every monday)). Some years we get our birthday off as well.
 
DD's DH gets one week of vacation; New Year's Day; Memorial Day; 4th of July; Labor Day; Thanksgiving; and Christmas..

He gets no sick or personal days at all..

Really stinks, but it's an awesome job - with the very real possibility of his becoming the vice president of the company in 5 to 10 years, so he stays.. He enjoys what he's doing and really likes the job, so I think that makes a world of difference.. :)
 
I am an Independent Manufacturer's Representative e.g. (self employed). No paid time off, and when I am on vacation with my DW need to carry my cell at all times in case a client calls. The money is good though, allows us to be DVC members and go to WDW 3 times a year.

DW has a regular job. She has been there 5 years and gets 16 vacation days, 10 sick days, and 8 paid holidays.
 
Someone mentioned their vacation is based on age not seniority. Is that even legal? It seems very odd. I've just never heard of it before.
 
I get pretty much however many vacation days I want from my job, but I don't get paid for the days I'm off. I usually take 1 or 2 weeks off per year. I usually take 1 week the first part of the year, and another week during the summer. I get the standard holidays off (without pay), Easter Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas day. I've been on my current job for about 3 years, and I've taken 2 sick days (again, without pay).

My boss doesn't have any probem with me taking days off as long as I get the work done (so when I know I'm going to be off for a week, then I get my work done, for the week that I'm gone, BEFORE I leave, which means I'm super-busy a couple of weeks before my week of vacation...but it works for me).

7 weeks off between vacation, personal days, and sick days. Plus 7 holidays per year. Time off is based on seniority, I've been with the company over 10 years.
 
As a teacher, I get several weeks off, all unpaid.

However, I think I get 5 paid holiday days each year. In addition, I get 10 sick days, 5 of those are permitted to be used as personal days.

I'm another one wondering about the age thing. Does that mean that a recently hired 50 year old would get more vacation than a 40 year that might have worked there for almost 20 years? This seems odd. :confused3
