Time Off?

How much time off do you get at your job? Vacation, sick, holidays, or any other paid time off. Is it seniority based, age based, or what?
 
DH had 3 weeks at his old job now he has a new job and he's back down to two again.

I am between jobs so I have all the time I want. LOL!
 
I started my current position in February 2008. I negotiated for 3 weeks vacation after 90 days, rather than the 2 weeks/year. They do it very weird. You get the 2 weeks on your anniversary date, but they let you borrow 1 week after 6 months, and then you accrue. That wasn't doing it for me. i got the 3 upfront, and then get 3 more each anniversary. After 3 years it will go to 4 weeks.
I also get 3 personal days/year, and 9 or 10 sick days. My sick days can be arranged in advance for Drs. appts. etc. I like that.
 

Its all seniority based- you start out with 2 weeks vacation, 3 personal days and 12 sick days and go form there. At 5 years you get 3 weeks vacation, 10 years 4 weeks and 15 years 5 weeks. I now have 5 weeks vacation, 6 personal days and 12 sick days that stays the same year after year and you accumulate sick days each year and when you retire you sell them back to the company for a nice check to start your retirement with. We also have 13 paid holidays- you get paid if you take them off but if you work them you get double time and a half.
 
You accrue PTO (paid time off) for the hours you work. The longer you been here, the more time you can accrue. When I took this position I was given a large lump sum of PTO, plus the time I already had banked, plus I still accrue as the weeks go by. Currently I have about 6 or 7 weeks of PTO.
 
I guess I should answer my own question as well.

Our vacation time is aged based. It combines vacation and sick leave into one bucket called PTO (Paid Time Off). For someone my age (mid-40s), we get six weeks each year. We can roll over three weeks into the next year.

We get 10 or 11 (I can never remember which) holidays each year.

We can also work a 9/80 schedule in which we work 9 hours on M-Th. We work 8 hours on alternate Fridays and are off the other Fridays.

Much of this is recent (last few years). We switched vacation from seniority to age based, traded 10 days of sick for 5 days of PTO, and added the 9/80 schedule.
 
Zero days the first year. In year 2 you get 1 week and then in year 3 you get 2 weeks.

At 5 years you get three weeks. And that's it!

I have been with this job for 8 months but I technically have to go another full year before I can take a week off (since I want to take it at Christmas time so I can spend it with DD). :sad2:
 
Being self employed, I don't get any paid time. I can only bill for the actual hours I work.
 
Vacation: 4 weeks paid
Sick days: none
Holidays: we all get Christmas off and can volunteer to work Thanksgiving for overtime pay.

Vacation time based on how long you've been continuously employed. Which sucks if you take extended time off for such things as a long illness, pregnancy, Family Act leave, etc. Because you get taken out of the system and are treated as a "new hire" when you return. That sucks major.
 
Our vacation is seniority based. You accrue a certain amount of hours each week until you reach your total for that year. You can "save" up to two years of vacation & then the company will pay you off. You can also buy up to a week's vacation, which I do every year.

I believe policy is that you get 2 weeks, and after 10 years with the company, 3 weeks, and after 20 years with the company 4 weeks. I have been w/the company for 23.5 years, so I get four weeks, plus my purchased vacation for a total of five weeks. I didn't use much vacay this year, though, so I was paid back for my purchased vacation last Friday. I plan to use it next year, though. :sunny:

In addition to the vacation, we take our holidays at the end of the year, so during the year we get Memorial Day, Independence, Labor Day, & 2 day for Thanksgiving off. This year, we get Dec 24-31 off, and Jan 1-2, so with 2 vacation days (Dec 22-23) I'm getting off for two full weeks for year-end.

We get a combined 40 hours that cannot be accrued for personal/sick time. If we need more than that, we can take it with upper management's approval. I try not to go over, though, and will use vacation time, especially, since we work the 9/80, and get every other Friday off that we can use for doctor's appointments, etc.

Probably more info here than anyone cared about. lol
 
I've been at my current job for almost 11 years and get 3 weeks vacation and one floating holiday.(used to be birthday pay) We also get paid for New Years, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. We are union so everything goes by seniority. 1 weeks vacay after 1 year, 2 after 3 years, 3 after 7, 4 after 15 and 5 after 25. No sick pay.
 
I get 2 weeks paid vacation and 11 paid holidays. It's all based on what I negotiate when I go in and ask for a raise (I started out with 1 week of vacation) .
 
I get 12 paid vacation days a year and 11 sick days paid a year. I have 8 years of service in and after 10 years it goes to 15 paid vacation days, after 15 years you get 18 days, and after 20 years you get 21 days per year. Also we can roll ours over from year to year up to 280 hours, anything over that at the end of the year rolls over to your sick leave. We also get 9 paid Holidays per year.
 
I've been with my company for 9 years.

I get 4 weeks of vacation (new hires get 3 weeks, or 10 hours per month), 2 personal days, and get 6 paid holidays a year. New Year's day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Our structure for vacation is 3 weeks up to 5 years, 4 weeks at 5 or more years, I think 5 weeks at 10 years, 6 weeks at 15 years, 7 weeks at 20 years etc.

However, they've decided that hourly employees (like me) can only have up to 1 year of vacation time on the books. So I'm at the point now where I have excess time when my anniversary (of hire) date comes up. They take back everything over my 4 week yearly 'allotment' and pay me for it.

My anniversary date is in September, and they took about 108 hours and left me 160 hours. In October they paid me for what they took. So I start the new year with a year of vacation time on the books and earn more every month.

Not as many paid holidays- but for someone who never got more than 2 weeks of vacation in any job..... I think I'm making out!
 
All of us who are there 5 years or less get 23 days PTO a year, for both sick and vacation time. It stinks big time. You are only allowed to carry over 5 days to the next year.

At 5 years - you get 28 days, sick and vacation time.

Most of us often work when sick, to make sure we have enough time for vacation.


My last job I got 4 weeks vacation, plus 3 personal days - and unlimited sick time. Believe it or not, no one abused the sick time.
 
I get 3 weeks vacation/personal time a year and 3 weeks sick time a year. I can accrue up to 45 days vacation and 180 days of sick leave. But, people almost act like you shouldn't take your time. :confused3
It's almost like they're "proud" of NEVER taking off. Whatever. . . . :rolleyes:

My DH gets a total of 5 weeks and gets to work from home every Friday:goodvibes 3 weeks are vacation, 1 week is sick, and 1 week is because his company just closes its doors between Christmas and New Years, which is probably the smartest thing they could do considering the ridiculous expense of operations compared the the minimal amount of work that would get done due to the skeleton crew who would be around that week anyway. Sure, it sounds like allot here but his colleagues in Europe think the Americans are mistreated, there they get a minimum of 8 weeks and habitually take weeks off at a time for a proper holiday.
I think the scale is based upon the type of job you do. I think another week is added every 5-10 years or so... DH usually banks 2 weeks each year because it becomes disruptive to be out too much.
It's true and yet somehow Europe and other countries across our Atlantic seem to make it work. Their countries aren't imploding from within because they take time off of work. Infact, some countries actually "shut down" for a month and people and their economy seem to thrive. Look at the euro/us dollar conversion rate. I'm as American as they come! My blood bleeds red, white and blue but I do think America needs to get with the program with family/life/work balance.

I get 4 wks vacation, 4 floating holidays and 10 sick days. Sick days can be carried over from year to year. We get 6 holidays and our birthday off.

I have been there 8 years. I'm not sure if I get any more vacation time or not in the future because when our company was bought, we got grandfathered into our old vacation time. The new company's vacation time is really really bad. We also used to be able to buy a week of vacation but that was also under the old company.

I will also be 'desk sharing' starting next month and as such will be working from home 2 or 3 days a week and going into the office the other 3 or 2 days.
 
I work a 3 day week. It is all based on seniority, but we all have 7 annual sick days, and ALL holidays paid. If we choose to work the holiday, we are paid double time and a half, or a regular day and you bank the rest. I think we have it pretty darn good. We are open all year long, and 24/7.

I get 3 weeks vacation yearly. I sometimes do an extra day here and there when possible, and usually bank the time. Even when working 3 days a week, sometimes there are those appointments that can not be attended to on your scheduled days off.
