Comparing magic bands to NSA tracking sells magazines but it is hyperbole. Right or wrong, no one at the NSA asked permission (and I recognize this isn't the place to debate it). The worst you can say about Disney and Magic Bands is that, perhaps, they have not done a full disclosure on how they will monitor the RFID chips. They have done a good of explaining, however, http://blog.wdwinfo.com/2013/02/17/d...s-for-mymagic/

I'm no fan of MM+ but it has nothing to do with concerns about Disney "spying" on guests who visit DL or WDW.

As with the "Snowden" revelation of Phone call Metadata, it would be very easy for a third party to create his/her own "metadata" style profile of RFID's at the park. One could do the same thing with Bluetooth LE and no one turns that off. :stir:

I am sorry, but that article is a joke. It is horribly written and very much over states a lot of stuff. It is trying for shock value instead of actual reporting.

Yes, but, those of us in the cyber-security business have similar concerns. You would be amazed at how ignorant the rest of the world is when it comes to cyber-security issues. I would just make sure you put any magic bands in an RFID blocking bag when you leave property. Then, you can be tracked by several Government agencies. Everytime you go down a Toll way, any visable RFID enabled device is read by the Toll Tag readers. Walk into a store and their inventory or loss prevention system will read any RFID on your person.

I'm sure that the NSA is flattered by this story. :surfweb:

My respect for Time magazine just dropped though. :badpc:

Interesting. But what information do they get from my MB if they can't access Disney's computer? For example, what exactly does it read in a store?

Oh lord, you had to ask. Now mike will post a screen shot of the RFID signal from his android.

:)

The articles seem pretty accurate to me. Disney will use the bands to track guests, identify who you are, match you up to events, pictures, and extras, and use them to admit you to parks, venues and your room. You can also use the band to charge to your room.

I'm aware.... I just don't care. In the age we're in, privacy doesn't exist. There's simply too many potential exploits. You can either fight it by being paranoid and covering up the webcam on your computer with black electrical tape, or embrace it by think about how sexy I look to the people spying on me.

And this song pops up in my head...I'm too sexy for my band..too sexy for my Magic band...too sexy:cool1:

But seriously...I agree, I refuse to be paranoid...but I will be careful as I can be with all my RFID devices.

I just sprayed my drink out of my mouth with these comments. LOL!

Are you saying that they can pull my credit card info off of it? Other than that -why would we care? I could care less if they start tracking how many times I use the restroom(unless they start charging me per flush) -bottom line is, if you're not doing anything wrong then you have nothing to worry about. I wish my life was so exciting that someone would start tracking me.

PS -I get changed every morning with the shades open ...they haven't contacted me yet, perhaps the government just isn't interested.

The only info on the band is a serial number that you match to your MDE account. The account has all of your info.

My understanding is that not all RFID readers read all RFIDs. Just like not all bar codes can be read by every bar code reader.

From a technical perspective, that isn't how RFID works. That's why you can use an RFID Credit Card or a Company ID badge at Test Track, since its just associating XXX identifier to XXX person.

Are you saying that they can pull my credit card info off of it?

Nope. They can only pull the UID off of the device which is the unique ID used to affiliate you Park media and MB to your MDE profile/account. But, that being said, that number is the gateway to your accounts. Now there are other nefarious things that that can be done with the RFID other than for someone to try and make a purchase on a cloned device (MB's require a PIN as well).
