Timandlesley's The Sum of Our Thrills TR w/ tons of pics&video 9/27 PTR link pg.58

Love the video of the parade. I have never seen that one in person so it is great to see. I am a little tired of Spectro. We did not even see it this last trip.

We did have dinner at Kona though. Isn't it great there?? We really enjoyed our meal.

Too bad about a busy DHS that morning:eek: Sounds like you did ok though.

Glad you got to meet some Disfriends:thumbsup2

Another great update! I can't believe the crowds, it's crazy! Too bad about the pool, that happened to us a couple of summers ago.

Kona has become one of our favorite places to dine. It's my dd's favorite hands down.

Great job for Tim going to the gym.....I joined Weight Watchers and I know how disciplined I have to be with not only my diet but exercise too....WAY TO GO TIM!!!!!
Yes, the crowds and the pool was a bummer but we made the best of it. Way to go for your success as well, thanks for the positives for tim, he REALLY appreciated it!

WOW...sounds like crowds were insane at DHS. Was it Star Wars Weekend?

Glad you had a good dinner and a nice night at MK at least

I can't wait to see that parade.

The dessert at Kona looked so yummy :goodvibes
No, it wasn't Star Wars Weekends, there were aTON of tour groups from Brasil there though.

Hi Just making it to the party, but I'm loving your TR. Your family is adorable. You seem just like our family would be if we had kids. We are both such hams and I know if we had kids they would be too! Ok, let's see....

*Nick hotel was totally cool and I loved the video reaction!
*Blue Man Group sounds great and now I have to go check ticket prices. Our anniversary is next week and we go to WDW the week after so that might be a great gift to give my husband since he loves drumming stuff (the Jammitors are his FAV!)
*I'm loving all the AKL pics since that's where we're staying in 2 weeks!
*What did you think of MSEP? We are huge fans of the Spectro music and I just don't know about MSEP.... I LOVED  Lauren's comment afterwards about Alice. How stinking cute!!
*Loved how sweet Luke was to make sure he got Lauren a pin too! So cute!!
Welcome! Glad you enjoyed the video reaction. Yes, Blue Man Group is GREAT, must see, your husband would LOVE it!!!! You will love AKL, have a GREAT trip!
LOVED MSEP, it was GREAT!!!

Wow, I just stumbled upon your TR this evening and am now all caught up. You have a beautiful family and I'm enjoying reading all about your trip. The Nick Hotel looks amazing, I think my kids would love that place too. I can't wait for the next installment!!!
Welcome! Glad you found us and are all caught up.
Really loved the pic of the kids in front of the waterfall!
I like that one too, I need to upload and order my photo's from the trip.
Looking the update and thanks for all the AKL tips... I already put a note on our reservation requesting a room close to an elevator and the lobby, so hopefully that will put us in an ideal room location. The kid activities change weekly correct? I just ask for a schedule at check in right? Also, we have reservations at Boma and really looking forward to it.
You are welcome. They do change, but a lot of them are pretty constant like the pin trading, games by the pool, parade in the lobby, African stories by the firepit, etc. are consistent, I think it's just the actual craft/activity offered daily taht changes. You will LOVE Boma!
Another fantastic post! It stinks about the pool closing two times now. I will have to warn my daughters!

What was the plastic that Tim was sitting on? I love this idea. It stakes out enough room for the family and keeps behinds dry too!
Happy to see you enjoyed it. Tim was sitting on ONE Mickey poncho we purchased and spread out, worked perfectly, saved room for the four of us and kept our buns dry:thumbsup2

Great update!
I hope your luck with the pool turns around.
AKL is just so beautiful. I love how all of the Disney resorts are so unique.
Yes, it will turn around, no worries! : ) I love it too, can't wait to try them all!

Happy Fourth of July!

Wow! I can't get over how busy DHS was that day! Was it an EMH day or were they showing Fantasmic! or was it just crowded?

What a bummer that you didn't get in any pool time that day, either, but it looks like your night was much better! Isn't King Pin a hoot??? Chelsea and Connor loved trading with him! Hurray for the Magic Kingdom and the MSEP! Can't wait to see it in person again!!!
It was a Fantasmic night, but usually at rope drop you don't notice that, there were a LOT of tour groups that night. Yes, LOVE King Pin, he definitely exceeded my expectations.

sorry i'm late. it will probably take me awhile to catch up b/c i'm so swamped lately but i'm here....better late than never!

First of all:
thredwhiteblue.jpg

Happy 4th of July!!

Now, on to my thoughts!

I just love pictures like this... ones that aren't posed... ones that really capture a regular ol' moment from the trip. They really make you feel that moment and remember it! (and I like Tim's bag, too!)

What are your thoughts about AKL as far as buses go? I think that's one of the things keeping us at BWV. We just love the convenience of walking to Epcot and DHS. You kind of have to do buses everywhere from AKL (unless you drive). What do you think?

Morning like this are so challenging, aren't they!? You just want to have fun, but every time you try to do something, your plans end up changing due to the crowds? But you still need to keep your happy magical feelings intact? Glad you guys were able to do that. Many parents wouldn't be able to!

:thumbsup2 Way to spot the Disney sale. Those are hard to find!

You know.. you were JUST around the corner from the "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" Playground.... I'm surprised you didn't go in... Ugh.. can you imagine.. with THAT heat and THOSE crowds... ICK!! :sad2:
Happy 4th to you as well. Yes, it was a challenging morning. Um.... yeah.... Definitely was not going NEAR HISTK Playground that day! : )

Me too! Me too!!

I still get jealous just THINKING about that opportunity. What a lucky duck!!

:sad2: Aw, MAN!!! Those darn summer storms! :headache: Hope we get to hear about some great pool time soon! (Maybe some time involving a certain family from NJ?)

Way to go, Tim!!
You and me both about the Disapalooza jealousy. Yes, summer storms stink! Certain family from NJ to come : ) Thanks, he's been working hard!

Yes!! More silly pictures! I LOVE these!!!

Was this in front of the Hall of Presidents? This is our favorite spot to watch Spectromagic!! There aren't usually many people on the other side of the street (Due to handicapped reserved spots and a large planter) so the characters usually direct their attention to our side!!

I have a feeling you are going to become a new DisUnplugged team member. You are getting along swimmingly with them, aren't you!? Glad you finally got to meet up with them!

That's crazy? Have you ever seen that happen before? I wonder if they are using the actual "old" floats from the original parade, and they are just feeling their age?:confused3
It was in Frontierland but not HOP, it was down further towards the bridge in front of the Christmas shop where they do charactitures, loved watching it there.
I WISH I could be on the Disunplugged team, not going to happen, but it's definitely a pipe dream.
I don't know, maybe it is an original float??

Great update. It looked like it was a bad morning at DHS. Hopefully that doesnt happen for you next day. Another pool downer. Well look on the bright side you got to stay in for five minutes longer then you did the first try! Kona looks gooooood as it always does.
Yes, it was a bad morning, but we kept it positive. Kona is GREAT!
Ohhhh. Love the updates. :thumbsup2 I know I have probably said this before but Luke and Lauren are sooooo adorable. I really miss those ages. Mine are all teens which is fun too but you don't see as many of those moments where they just act like kids.
Thanks so much, I appreciate it, of course I think that but I'm their mom : ) Yes, I am trying to soak up these moments while they are young, I get emmotional thinking about how fast they are growing up.
oh my I can't even believe that was the line JUST to get Fast Passes for TSM?? that is crazy!!!
I know, it WAS crazy!

Yikes to HS. That is just insane those crowds. Wonder why?

Kona is a great meal, we tried it this trip for the first time and will for sure be back next year!

Have a wonderful 4th!
There were tons of tour groups that morning, CRAZY crowded. Glad you enjoyed Kona too!

FUN FUN!! Main st parade is soooo awesome!
Can hardly wait for another update!!popcorn::
Yes, it is so awesome, glad you enjoyed the update, another coming soon.
It is the best, glad you enjoyed the shots, they were taken with the knew Cannon camera
Ohhh what kind? Im currently looking at Cannon.. its tough choice..

Holy crowds!!! :scared1: The FP line for TSM was crazy!!! And 2 days in a row of no pool time for your kids.......oh, no! Glad to see you all made the best of it though! Your Kona meal looked delish.........I love that place! :thumbsup2 Loved your pics and video from the Main Street Electrical Parade.......they made me SO EXCITED to see it at the end of this month!
Yes, it was CRAZY crowded. No pool time was a bummer, but we still managed to have a great day. You will have SUCH fun seeing it!

Great updates (I'm a bit behind). Love the video of MSEP! Anything with lights I'm all over! Too bad about the pool but I'm sure it won't last. Great pin trading, something we've never done. Love that you ended up in the same room as last year. How cool:thumbsup2
Welcome, glad you are getting caught up. Yes, it won't last. The pin trading is super fun, kids really got into it!

Great trip report! Definitely getting me excited for my August trip :) Your kids are adorable too. Can't wait to read more!
Awesome, August will be here before you know it. Thanks for the kid comment : )

Happy 4th! Another great update! I am sorry that you guys didn't have DHS mojo or any luck with the pool again! I hope the kids eventually got a good day of swimming in.

The video of MSEP was great! I love the musis from it....it reminds me of my childhood so much. Lauren's faces were gerat during the video also. Looking forward to your AK day.
Yup, no DHS mojo that day. Yes, we will get some swimming in soon, Thank Goodness! I love her faces in the video too, something I will always treasure!

I'm so sorry that I'm late, but I'm here and all caught up! So glad you had such a great time at the Nick hotel and were able to pull off the surprise!
Welcome! Glad you could make it! I was glad we could pull off the surprise as well!

Great updates!

Love the photo of Tim with his towel turban! And great photos of you and Lauren as you were getting ready to head out to dinner.

Can't believe how crowded HS was!!! Your story about just missing the bus, and having to make a pit stop at BB is exactly why I find it is completely worth my while to spend the $25-30 a day to rent a car! ;) Nothing worse than getting up early for rope drop, but missing it due to inefficiencies or bad luck with the buses.

That story about Luke trading for a pin for Lauren is completely heart-warming!

Your kids are just so adorable!:goodvibes The expressions on Lauren's face as she is watching the Main Street Electrical Parade conveys completely the love your family obviously has for Disney!

Can't wait to read more!:)
His towel turban cracked me up, glad it gave you a laugh as well. You know, we should have driven that morning, we are just so used to not having a car we didn't just think of jmping in. I love her faces in that video as well, just pure enjoyment and wonder!

Great trip report so far. You guys seem like a REALLY FUN family!
Thanks, we try to have lots of fun together!

The light parade pictures were wonderful.
Glad you enjoyed them.

Fabulous update!!!! The crowds looked horrible at HS. But glad you still had a good time. I love the expressions on Lauren's face during the parade. I remember when my daughter's face used to light up like that during parades at Disney. She's 10, so she still loves Disney, but she tries to play it cool now. They grow up sooooo fast!!!!! Looks like you all had another great Disney Day!!!
Happy you enjoyed the update. I just love her expressions during the parade too, as I was video taping I looked up at her and saw her and just had to record her precious face. I know, they are growing up so fast it is breaking my heart!

Awesome trip report. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, happy you are enjoying it.
Thank so much for these amazing trip reports.:worship: I always think I didn't take enough pictures when I see how well all your pictures came out.

We were at the WDW at the same time as you. I remember reading that you and your family would be there but I never did see you but I did see your friend Diane and her family at Soaring. Didn't say anything but it does make it more personal when you actually see people you "know".

Looking forward to reading more.:cool1:
You are too sweet,so glad you enjoy them. Wish we would have run into you, you could have said Diane hello, she would have loved that!

Ah, I love your TRs, I'm so happy to read another! The video of you guys surprising the kids with the Nick Hotel was so fun! Looks like a great hotel - and a great deal!

I sure hope the kids get to swim on day 3! At least they seemed to be good sports about it all.

Kona looks deeeeeeeeeelish!
So happy you are enjoying the report, yes Nick was a blast! Kona is great, if you haven't tried it I highly recommend it!
DHS was packed!!! I have yet to ride TSM since every time we've been, the waits have been insane. But that is for sure on the list for this trip!!! :)

Your Kona dinner looked wonderful!!! YUMMO!!
Yes it was packed, TSM is worth the wait, but if you can FP it right away I recommend doing so.

Great updates ! Love the pic of the mushroom filet ... it is delicious. Luke is a great big brother for helping Lauuren get a pin, too.

Wow HS was really crowded. It was like that for my family a couple of years ago in August. Love the Poly and Kona is a good place to eat. I never knew the Lilo & Stitch were made of chocolate.

The video of the parade was great I felt like I was sitting in the MK watching it. The expression on Lauren's face was so cute ... that is definitely what Disney magic is all about.
Yes the mushroom filet is super yummy. I didn't know they were made of chocolate either, interesting huh? I agree, that is exactly what Disney magic is all about.

Thank you for the pics and video of the Main Street Electrical Parade. It is one of my favorite memories from my childhood and although I love Spectromagic, it just isn't the same.
Glad the rain stopped for you to have a fun MK evening!
You are welcome, I am glad you enjoyed them. I'm hapy the rain stopped too, also made the crowds SUPER light that night
I just went back and watched the parade video and I love the expression on Lauren's face as she watches the parade. She was dancing along with the music and having a great time. This is my favorite parade. In fact on our last trip the first thing we did after checking in was go to Casey's for corn dog nuggets, then find a place on the curb for the light parade. It brought back so many memories of other fun times at Disney.
I know, wasn't her face precious, just love it. I need to try those corn dog nuggets, you are the second person today that has mentioned them.
I remember you texting me about how awful the crowds were that day! UGH, so frustrating when you feel like you are getting nothing done!! Looks like you made the best of it though! Your meal at Kona looked AWESOME, maybe you will go back before your trip is over:rolleyes1 You are right that butter is TO DIE FOR!!!
Yeah, they were pretty bad that day. LOVE that butter, could go for some now, maybe we will :)

Great report so far! Can't wait for the next installment.
Glad you are enjoying it.

Hi Lesley! I just discovered your TR and I love it! I am a teacher so it is good to read about summer trips because that's pretty much my only option. You have a lovely family :)
Happy you discovered it. Yes, we have been going every summer since Lauren was 8 months old, love that we are DVC members now so we can experience it at different times of the year.

Looks like you had huge crowds that day at HS . Your dinner at Kona looks yummy. I love that chocolate lava cake :cloud9:. Awesome that you got to meet up with some Dis friends.
Tim loved the lava cake, glad you enjoyed the update.

Happy you enjoyed the video, I was getting tired of Spectro too and was happy for the change. Yes, just LOVE Kona!

another great update! :-)
Thanks!!!

Day 3 in Disney:
So today was the day that my great friend from back in Cincinnati was going to be at Animal Kingdom the same day we were. We were totally thrilled they were in town (they came into town for family obligations and were doing Disney for 1 day and 1 day only and chose Animal Kingdom since they did Magic Kingdom the year before).
We got up early and headed down to catch a bus;
103_6842640x480.jpg

103_6843640x480.jpg

103_6844640x480.jpg

We had NO trouble getting right onto a bus:
103_6845640x480.jpg

We were excited we arrived about 15 minutes before park opening and Wendy, Steve and Tyler were headed in on the tram (we knew through texts) so we anxiously awaited their arrival:
103_6846640x480.jpg

They had driven over an hour so they had to hit the restrooms which put us about 5 minutes past rope drop by the time they got out and applied some sunscreen so we headed immediately towards Expedition Everest:
103_6847640x480.jpg

The crowds were INCREDIBLE that day!!!( I personally attribute that to the Harry Potter opening that was that same day):
103_6848640x480.jpg

Lauren was SO thrilled to be there with her “girl”, there daughter Tyler Rose:
103_6849640x480.jpg

The girls drug their feet and took forever walking towards Expedition Everest. Lauren said “we are GIRLS, we love to TALK when we walk!” cracked me up. We finally got there and the wait time was only 5 minutes:
103_6850640x480.jpg

The kids were thrilled to ride:
103_6851640x480.jpg

Tyler and Lauren wanted to ride together;
103_6852640x480.jpg

The adventure began!
103_6854640x480.jpg

I took this pic of Wendy and I after I said “you SURVIVED EVEREST!!!” she is NOT a roller coaster girl
103_6856640x480.jpg

After we got off everyone except for Wendy and I wanted to ride again and the wait time was still only 5 minutes, so Wendy and I headed to get Fast Passes for the Safari to get fast passes for our crew:
103_6857640x480.jpg

We got fast passes no problem, just tells you how low the crowds were, look at our return time, and the WAIT was only 20 minutes!!!
103_6858640x480.jpg

We met them back in Dinosaur, and the kids were already on Triceritop Spin:
103_6861640x480.jpg

Wendy wasn’t sure about Dinosaur for Tyler based on my description but her husband Steve said “I don’t want to assume that she wouldn’t like anything until she’s tried it” so we headed over to Dinosaur:
103_6862640x480.jpg

Steve, Lauren, Tyler rode in one row and Luke, Tim and myself rode in the other (my friend Wendy sat this one out) . The kids were a bit nervous about the ride, so as we entered Tim said “the safe word is BOLOGNA, if you feel scared, yell BOLOGNA!” the kids thought this was HALARIOUS and it is totally what got them through the ride, they kept yelling “BOLOGNA!!!!” throughout the ride, It was funny!
Here is our ride photo:
103_6864640x480.jpg

After we got off and checked out our ride photo I realized Lauren had left her spray fan on the ride, and we still had MANY Disney hot days to endure so I had to stay and search for the fan, I sent the rest of them on. I approached the photo counter and she called down to the ride. She asked me if by any chance I knew the number on the ride vehicle. Well, I had taken that ghetto picture on my camera, through that I knew our photo number and she looked it up and found the vehicle number and they tracked down the fan, BRILLIANT!!!
I called Tim and they were on Primevil Whirl, Steve (the poor guy who isn’t great with spinning rides) was on with the kids:
103_6865640x480.jpg

As he came by one of the turns he was yelling” BOLOGNA!!!!!!!” We were cracking up!
103_6866640x480.jpg

After they were done on that ride, we took a few pics. Had to get their pic in the car, Steve’s pose here cracks me up!!!
103_6867640x480.jpg

Luke had fun with the silly mirrors:
103_6868640x480.jpg

We headed towards the Safari to use our Fast Passes, enjoyed some great musical entertainment on the way:
103_6869640x480.jpg

CONTINUED IN THE NEXT POST!!

We were thrilled we ran into Divine:
103_6870640x480.jpg

103_6871640x480.jpg

While they stood there admiring Divine, Lauren and I ran towards some Jungle Book characters that were coming back from a break and got some great photo’s, they were all on Photopass, my LAST update on this TR will be all of our Photopass pics, so stay tuned for that.
The music in front of Tusker House was calling Luke and Tim and they couldn’t resist:
103_6882640x480.jpg

103_6883640x480.jpg

We got into the short fast pass line for the Safari:
103_6885640x480.jpg

103_6886640x480.jpg

It was a great safari as always:
103_6888640x480.jpg

103_6890640x480.jpg

We saw more giraffes than we EVER have on the safari (which was cool because that is Wendy’s FAVORITE animal)
103_6892640x480.jpg

103_6893640x480.jpg

103_6896640x480.jpg

103_6897640x480.jpg

103_6898640x480.jpg

Lauren was loving enjoying the safari with her “girl” Tyler (love Lauren’s side ponytail she’s rockin’ on this day, TOTALLY her request, so Deb from Napoleon Dynamite : )
103_6899640x480.jpg

Flamingo’s, Lauren’s FAVORITE:
103_6901640x480.jpg

We saw the baby rhino:
103_6903640x480.jpg

We saw another vehicle to the side, they looked like they were having a private safari, must have been a tour??
103_6905640x480.jpg

Oh…… I forgot to mention that on our way to the Safari we grabbed fast passes for kali River Rapids, it was now time to use those, so we headed that way:
103_6906640x480.jpg

The girls were dancing their way there:
103_6907640x480.jpg

It was another HOT day, so we were ready to get wet!
103_6909640x480.jpg

The girls were REALLY excited to ride together again:
103_6910640x480.jpg

My boys:

Our crazy crew (Wendy and tyler had Poncho’s, because I told them they would get really wet and they were planning on staying all day):
103_6912640x480.jpg

I was the one in the boat who got D-R-I-L-L-E-D!!!!
103_6913640x480.jpg

Lauren got pretty wet too:
103_6914640x480.jpg

Here’s our after picture of all of us who were soaked:
103_6915640x480.jpg

We were already wet so why not get MORE wet, while member of our party use the restroom, right!?!
103_6916640x480.jpg

Tim didn’t feel he needed the restroom : )
103_6917640x480.jpg

As we were walking away Luke was yelling “MOM, come look at this!!!”
103_6919640x480.jpg

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!
At this point we were STARVING, so we headed to Flame Tree BBQ for lunch:
103_6920640x480.jpg

The Village Beatnicks were playing, and Steve and Tim were FEELIN’ it:
103_6921640x480.jpg

As we sat there and ate the skies UNLEASHED, it was a CRAZY storm!!! We enjoyed our yummy food and were thankful we found our seats BEFORE the rain, we were surrounded by hungry birds, here was my buddy who kept begging from me like a dog throughout my lunch:
103_6923640x480.jpg

There was this ADORABLE baby duck who was SO teenie (think smaller than your palm) and it kept following the mom birds around but they wanted nothing to do with her and she kept cuddling by peoples feet and almost got stepped on several times, very sad.
We waited out the rain for about an hour and finally decided we needed to make a run for the buses, we had to shower and get ready for dinner since our OTHER friends from Jersey were arriving and we had dinner plans with them. So we gave our wonderful friends hugs goodbye and we RAN for the bus stop. It got to the point that the rain was SO ridiculous and our shoes kept slipping/sliding that we literally ran BAREFOOT to the bus, we FINALLY made it!!!
103_6925640x480.jpg

We got a text from Diane on our bus ride back to the hotel telling us they were at Epcot, so we ran back to the room to get showered and changed to meet them at the park.

Wow! Sounds like an awesome day at AK!

Can't wait to hear all about your dinner (and drinks;)) and meet up with Diane's family!:goodvibes

Wow! What an amazing day. So excited that you got to experience low crowds after the debacle from the day before!:goodvibes

Just wondering... no Finding Nemo or Festival of the Lion King? :confused3

You KNEW I'd ask!:rolleyes1

It is the best, glad you enjoyed the shots, they were taken with the knew Cannon camera
Ohhh what kind? Im currently looking at Cannon.. its tough choice..
The Canon EOS Rebel T1i Digital SLR Camera LOVE it, but feel we need to invest in a bigger lense soon for close up shots.
Lesley

Great TR !! Lordy lordy, Luke & Lauren have done some major growing up since your first TR. :goodvibes

Sounds like a great day.Glad you had less crowds to make up for the days before crowds.

That was great that Lauren got to have another girl to hang with. Love her side ponytail...too cute :cutie:

Great report! I love the inside scoop on Nick hotel. Looking forward to the next 7 days!

Hey! Looks like it was a little rough at DHS -- we hit a crowd there one morning too BOO! But way to make the best of it! Glad dinner and MK made up for it! King Pin -- I remember seeing him in February, it does look like your kids enjoy trading! :goodvibes That Kona cone does look tempting....

AK day with your friends, how fun! Glad you had that morning with them! I love the group shot at Kali! Classic! Can't wait to hear about your family reunion with Diane and crew!

Great update Lesley! Looks like you had some real good "Harry Potter" karma at AK!!!! How fun to be able to tour with friends! You all seemed to be having a wonderful time!! LOVE all the dancing you guys did too!!:goodvibes:goodvibes

That's great that the crowds were low. The picture of Tim (not using the bathroom) had me:rotfl:.

As we were walking away Luke was yelling “MOM, come look at this!!!”
103_6919640x480.jpg

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!
At this point we were STARVING, so we headed to Flame Tree BBQ for lunch:

Something about this transition is cracking me up! From EWWWWWWWWWWW to LUNCH in 2.2 seconds :lmao:

Great update! Glad the crowds were so much better at Animal Kingdom than they had been at DHS the day before! Looks like you had a fun time hanging out with friends -- Tim and Luke's dancing pictures are cracking me up!
