Bull Pucky.
It was Satire. Yes, it was to make the point, but the FSM was meant to be the slight it is perceived as. That is what Satire is.
Period.
Satire Noun:
1. A literary work in which human vice or folly is attacked through irony, derision, or wit.
2. The branch of literature constituting such works. See Synonyms at caricature.
3. Irony, sarcasm, or caustic wit used to attack or expose folly, vice, or stupidity.
The FSM communcated effectively what the anti-faith crowd is saying.
...So what's going on? There is no question that secularism is on the rise in America, and the media is happy about it. Openly religious people like Tim Tebow are often mocked. You are quickly branded a zealot if you talk up your faith in public. But if you act like one of Caligula's running buddies, you are often glorified as cool and "with it." South Beach is in, Lourdes is out, assuming you actually know what Lourdes is.
But the churches themselves have to share some of the blame. Too often, the person preaching in the pulpit does not have much to say, especially to younger people who are looking for life guidance. I mean, St. Paul had the Corinthians mesmerized, but back then there was no internet, no Blackberrys, no cable. Paul had the stage to himself. Not much competition in ancient Syria.
Today, the challenge is to get the attention of the faithful, and that takes some doing. Christmas seems to be a good place to start. Jesus changed the entire world in less than 35 years. How did the guy do it? Talk about a great narrative. What did a baby born into poverty possess that persuaded billions all over the world to believe in his philosophy? There are about 1.2 billion Christians on earth today, 17% of the world's population.
Something to think about on the birthday of the most influential man who ever lived.
The anti-science crowd is so easily offended
Another perceived slight that isn't. FSM was created in response to the pushes in several states to sneak creationism teaching into the public schools under the guise of "intelligent design" and push evolution education out. Considering that of Americans in the 12 largest Christian denominations, 89.6% belong to churches that support evolution education, there is no way the origin of the FSM is anti-Christian.
I'd like him better if he hadn't been a Gator. Go Noles!
Anti-science crowd? Really? There are people against science?
I'm confused as to who this group must be. Tell us more.
I'm not much of a professional football watcher anymore, but from what I've seen love his enthusiasm for the game and his religion too. It isn't always pretty, but he finds a way to win.
Liked what Bill O'Reilly had to mention in his article this week. For some reason Tim Tebow is mocked for his religion. And yet we glorify some questionable characters often. It seems that we can have things backwards to me.

I can't take anything Bill O'Reilly says seriously all of his supposed facts are clouded by his worldview, the majority of what he says is just plain false...Trust me as a card carrying Skeptic/Atheist there is no war on Christmas, never has been, never will be and Tebow isn't mocked for his Religion he his mocked for how he presents it in an over-the-top manner. Was Reggie White ever mocked? NO are the other Christian or Religious players in every Pro Sport mocked?? NO.....O'Reilly is just like every other Media type he sensationalizes everything based upon his personal worldviews and ignorance.
I just want to shake Bill O'Reilly and say in my best McLovin voice "Read a book for once!!"
Whats on MSNBC today?
