Tim Tebow

I am sure he will tumble, and all the haters will come out and take their jabs at him for being a Christian and not living the perfect life others expect of him.

The higher he is placed, the harder the media crash.

Ironically, being perfect isnt what his faith is about. Being forgiven is.

Tebow was the one that placed himself up so high not the media. He is the one that felt the need to draw attention to himself based on his beliefs instead of his football ability. He reminds me of the politician that shouts from the mountain tops about the evils of homosexuals while secretly being involved in a same sex relationship. I'm not saying that is the case with him but I tend to find those that shout the loudest tend to do so for a reason. I guess that is just the pessimist in me. I honestly hope Tebow doesn't fall but if he does, I believe he will have nobody to blame but himself because he created this image himself.

There is no doubt that if Manning can't come back from this injury that the NFL will have lost one of the best. I hate to admit it because it turns my stomach but even as a Pats fan I would agree with you that a healthy Manning is slightly better than a healthy Brady only because Manning is basically the Offensive Coordinator and QB. But I'd be ok with either on my team and they are both first ballot Hall of Famers.

IMHO Tebow will be a middle of the road at best QB in the NFL, IMO he is the new Vick. (strictly speaking from a QB perspective not how he conducts himself obviously) Run First-Pass Second QBs will never win on a consistent or long term basis in the NFL because what happened to Tebow yesterday happens to them all, they get too far behind and mistakes start happening. They lose their sense of pocket presence and pull down too soon and take off with no where to go, or in the wrong direction. Unless of course Tebow grows and breaks the mold and starts completing more that 50-60% of his throws and finds some comfort in the pocket. Good NFL teams are going to start adjusting to the scheme, Tebow needs to become a NFL passer, yesterday he showed some glimmer of being able to do that but it fell apart fast once the Pats D settled in.

Actually, it fell apart when the rest of the Broncos fell apart. You can be the best QB in the league, but even then would not be able to overcome the rest of the team committing 3 major turnovers.

As Elway said yesterday on the Elway show, take those 3 turnovers away and Tim showed that he can definitely hang with the big boys. (The turnovers were not caused by him.) You cannot commit 3 major turnovers and expect to beat a team like them.

Nobody is arguing (at least not here in Denver) that Brady was the better, more seasoned QB. But if you look at the throwing mechanics overlays that were being shown, Tebow's mechanics are almost precisely the same as Brady's, indicating huge potential for the kid.

He is growing in skill with every game. That is all that is expected this year.

And I did just put down the deposit for our post season tickets :goodvibes

WOW some people are really going off the deep end.

  • The Gronking (spiking) was toward the fans, not Tebow personally.
  • I never understood booing opposing players. It's kind of like mud-slinging in politics. Let's cheer on our team/players instead!
  • If one is a Christian, one understands about not judging others. And I don't see what there is to judge Brady about anyway. :confused3
  • Tom has had good things to say about Tebow. . Tim has good things about Brady. It's a regular love fest.
  • The extremists on both sides are getting to be waaaaaay too much(again, like politics).

:thumbsup2
both QB's had mutual respect for each other. We should all do the same.

I am a 20+ year Bronco Season Ticket Holder. The Broncos did not deserve to win that game. The Pats were better, period. There were way too many errors and turnovers on the Bronco's part.

I can't wait for New Years Day when it is Broncos vs Chiefs, Tim vs Kyle.

I just read the transcript from this weeks Elway presser....he says Tim is here to stay...guess we'll see!
Yup. As I said earlier in the thread, Elway has come around (at least in public since he was getting a thrashing for being jealous of Tebow).

He has vowed to personally spend the off season with Tebow teaching him everything he knows about being a QB in the NFL. Not bad to have a Hall of Fame QB as your mentor :goodvibes

As for the other stuff, I actually feel sorry for the kid. He himself does not bring up all his charity work. I think he would just rather do it as much under the radar as possible.

But then you have all the rabid fans, like some on this thread, throwing out all his "good deeds" like he is someone better than anybody else and wants to be on that pedestal. From what we have seen, that is the last thing on his mind.

In the business of professional sports, any press release is only the answer for the moment. Any player can be traded or released.

Yup, but trading Tebow is just not acceptable to the Denver fans. And Elway knows it.

It is a business after all. :goodvibes

Elway wants to maintain his Denver popularity for his own business deals. Trading Tebow right now would not be a healthy business decision for the Broncos or for his car dealerships.

Keeping Tebow keeps him beloved in our fair city.

And if Elway can take the credit for creating a great QB over the off-season, well.....His legendary status will be maintained. :lmao:

I have to disagree with you Lisa. I just do not think he has placed himself on a pedestal. I think he is very outspoken with his faith. I am too, it is no secret with me either. I have very strong feelings about my faith and cannot separate the two. However, as everyone on the DIS knows, I am far from perfect and screw up daily.
While he does the bowing and the thanking, the media makes a huge deal out of it.
I'm sure the guy screws up daily. I think most of us do.

Tebow did turn the ball over he fumbled the ball when Mark Anderson strip sacked him. Not to mention he was sacked numerous times, 2 of which were completely his fault, he turned and ran right into the pass rusher on one and he turned and ran backwards for nearly 30 yards on the other. Which is to be expected he is unseasoned and still has the run first, pass second mentality.

Mechanics mean nothing in the NFL it's all about what you do with them...otherwise Ryan Leaf, Rick Mirer, Heath Shuler, Chris Weinke, Joey Harrington, David Carr and a whole host of others would have been successful NFL Quarterbacks....

I'm not saying Tebow won't learn and grow and become a long term NFL QB as he has definitely shown glimmers of his throwing potential. I'm just saying if he expects to win and sustain a successful long term career in the NFL he needs to have a much better completion % than 45-60%.

The Broncos can't run the I his entire career, good NFL Defenses are going to adjust the second time through like they did with the Wild Cat. Tebow needs to learn how to be a confident pocket passer while learning the ability to run when he needs to not when he feels he has to. IMO in the off season he should watch Rothlisberger tapes and dust off some old Steve Young, Warren Moon and even Randall Cunningham footage to learn from. :)

He chose to wear his religion on his sleeve (or in his case, under his eyes)! He chose to let everyone know where he stood on abortion. He continues to bring religion into interviews and on the playing field. I'm not knocking him for doing that. It is his right. My point was he chose that path. He could have simply played football, threw in an occasional "thank you, Jesus" while talking to the media and let it go. He didn't. So I stand by my belief that he put himself up pretty high. I don't think he views himself as perfect by a long shot but he has set the standards himself. I say bravo to him for having the guts to do that. But he needs to be prepared that if he decides to go down the "sinful path" he will get called out on it more-so than the Tom Brady's of this world that never claimed they were following the path Tebow is following.

Look at the transcript of one of his interviews a few pages back. He only mentions his religion twice - the first line where he thanks his Lord and Savior and once later, when asked, answered in the affirmative that maybe there was some divine intervention in a particular play.

I live in Denver, so it is Tebow Time all the time. It is the rare interview where he does not do an initial "I want to thank my Lord and Savior" and then moves on and it is all about football.

So, he does does do exactly what you say is acceptable. He throws in a few thank yous and then talks about football. It IS the media that presses him and continues to ask questions about his religion. It IS the media that makes such a huge deal about it, not Tebow. He does a thank you and then moves on and thanks his coach, his team, the other team, etc.

He is not the first sports person to thank their chosen savior. He is not the first to make some religious motion - I can't count how many times I have seen a Catholic athlete cross themselves. He is not the first person to wear a symbol for something they believe in. Perhaps all the athletes who wear pink should be tagged as being too religious.

He is just a golly, gee, shucks kind of person and that doesn't fit the stereotype so many have of the tough football player, so gets picked apart for his beliefs.

FWIW - I hate Focus on the Family with a passion, almost hate to drive down to the Springs. But I do think the kid is getting a raw deal being pegged for being a religious zealot.

Personally, I like what Leno had to say the other night: It is hard to figure out who God likes better. He gave Tim 6 wins, but he gave Tom Gisele :rotfl2:

Nah, not going to need those. He has Elway on a mission to mold him into an NFL great. 'Nuff said.

He is making progress and significant progress with each game. It is rare for a college phenom to transition to NFL phenom in less than 2 years with only 6 games played.

Most of today's best QB's were not the exceptional stars they are now/were their first years in the NFL.

The reason he turned Elway and Fox around is that he is showing remarkable progress in each game. Nobody expects a Super Bowl performance from him...at least not yet.

I find it amusing that people are dismissing his talent before the end of his 2nd season. I am willing to give him a chance to learn and not expect greatness for a few years.

I was referring to his days as a Gator not his current interviews with the Broncos.

But I do agree with you on the "golly gee shucks" kind of personality and making him a target for being picked apart. It will be interesting to see what happens to Tebow down the road. I hope he does well for himself. He isn't my cup of tea in the slightest but I reserve being a "hater" for people that are evil and Tebow isn't doesn't even come close.

I see where you are coming from, I really do and we will have to agree to disagree.:flower3:

You are so right, being at the game on Sunday was very different from being there at the begining of the season. The stands were full until the last 2 minutes, people out side the stadium were asking to buy tickets (usually quite a few scalpers looking to sell), they were sold out of bottles of coke by the 3rd quarter, people had huge bags of stuff they were buying. The whole vibe was different.

He is their cash cow right now, Elway would be stupid to get rid of him.( He would also lose a ton of respect from the fans)

Since retiring Elway has followed his son around wherever he was playing Football and being part of the "coaching staff". Now that his Son is no longer playing Football Elway has a "New Mission" with Tebow.

:thumbsup2 Tebow can now be the son to follow in his footsteps.

I hope he doesn't teach Timmy how to line up behind a guard like he did his first year in the NFL. Gawd, Elway was awful those first couple of years :rotfl2:

No, not at all. These would have been interviews on Orlando news stations during his heyday. I didn't think to record them at the time in case I would need them in the future. ;)

I'm sure you would interpret the interviews differently than I did anyway. That's okay. He simply never appealed to me and seeing him on my screen multiple nights a week with his Bible verses under his eyes completely turned me off. YMMV.

Again, I wish him the best and I am not a "hater" like some of you want to believe those that don't worship him are. But when people blame the media for making more out of his religion than he does, I disagree. That wasn't what I picked up on when he was at UF.

oh please.....he had on religious eyeblacks but he no more touted religion than he does at the moment....
and this is a life long gator and also native floridian so I have seen all the florida media have done to him.

First of all, I am about as non-religious and as liberal as they get, so Tebow, by reputation should annoy me.

However, from what I have observed here in Denver, a lot of it is pure media hype because controversy sells.

As for his eyeblack, I don't see this any different than wearing a pink ribbon on your uniform to support a belief and/or a cause.

And really, history is filled with college kids being overly passionate about causes, many times prompting them to smack themselves on the forehead later in life. Oh wait, that is me and my fellow 70's college friends :rolleyes1

He seems to have grown up quite a bit in the two years since his college days.
