Tim Tebow

Not by the mainstream sports media. The only religion they or the normal mainstream media criticizes is Christianity. I have heard people called closed minded or intolerant or a bigot for making fun of or criticizing Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, and most other religions but have never heard someone called that for making fun of Christianity.

Even on these boards you will see that people like Tebow are often criticized for their faith and no one says anything but if someone were to criticize someone equally for their Islamic or Jewish faith they would be raked over the coals.

It is what it is and I'm not really bothered by it or anything but I definitely notice it. Criticism of Christianity is treated differently than criticism of any other religion by the mainstream.

No one cares about Tim Tebow's faith. Many people get tired of the constant reminders of it and how the Christian right have adopted him as the Greatest Football Player Ever simply because he's obnoxious about professing his belief at every opportunity.

I actually didn't know other athletes were complainin' about him until just a few days ago, read some article that they really are tired of it. I'm just not into sports, well, except the Penn St debacle where those folks thought some of their people were gods too.

Same with the gay agenda.:thumbsup2

Thank a soldier:

I disagree. I think his faith is the primary reason he is so loved and hated.

I agree with Emma. I don't see that it would matter if he was the best quarterback or the worst quarterback in the NFL, he'd still be loved and hated for his faith (and the name of the team on his shirt, lol.)

Like I said, his faith is who he is. Is he perfect? No. Will he screw up? Yep. Will he do some really good things? He sure will. He's probably not worrying about answering to fans or non-fans, he knows he'll answer to God.

It's not his actual faith that's an issue. It's the constant proclamation of it that irritates people, and it doesn't matter if the faith is Christianity, Islam, Judaism, or whatever; for every person who thinks it's cool to wear your faith like some badge of honor, there are others who wish you'd worship quietly.

I don't think anyone was ever converted by someone who was in your face about it. If anything, that makes potential converts flee. Live your life in a good way and be a good and kindhearted person and maybe people will get close enough to you to listen to what you have to say.

I do find it entertaining how Tebow irritates some folks. Some folks let the funniest things get under their skin. :surfweb:

Your cousin didn't go to Florida State with him because he didn't go to Florida State. He went to the University of Florida.

Sorry, typed that wrong. Meant to type university of Florida. And yes, they did go to school together.

I'm sure she has confused the two. Easy to do. ;) We know the Gators well here in TN. When TN plays them, we pull for the Gators. Now that personal info could get me thrown outta Knoxville!

Thanks for this, I do know the difference but just made a typo.

Tebow was asked in an interview about his outward love for Jesus Christ and he responded with this answer:

"If you're married and you have a wife and you really love your wife, is it good enough to only say to your wife 'I love her' the day you get married? Or should you tell her every single day when you wake up and every opportunity? That's how I feel about my relationship with Jesus Christ."

He further explained that he is going to give Jesus all the glory every chance he gets because of what Jesus did on the cross and because Jesus deserves it. Tebow isn't going on TV saying "YOU should love Jesus", hes saying "I love Jesus."

See, that could be a nice thought, but if anyone I knew told me every time I saw them, "wow, I love my wife, my wife is wonderful, gosh, she's terrific, I really love her bunches," I'd think, "what a whack job. you might want to branch out and get something else going on in your life because all of that announcing your love is nauseating."

Love whoever you want, but understand that crowing about it is annoying.
