Tim Tebow

Tebow and his mother have said that her doctor in the Philippines suggested she discontinue the pregnancy because she was so ill. She has stated she that she couldn't follow the advice because of her beliefs. However, abortions for any reason are illegal in the Philippines. If a woman has an abortion for any reason she will be sentenced to prison. The law also states that anyone helping with the abortion will also be sentenced. If a doctor told her to discontinue the pregnancy and he or she performed the procedure, the doctor would have been sentenced as well. Which doctor in their right mind would suggest an abortion, knowing that he or she would go to prison for performing the procedure? This has been the law since about 1930.

Sorry, but I do not believe the Tebows' version of the story. This is not the only reason I do not like Tebow, but it is one of the reasons.

The Philippines has a pretty high abortion rate. It's not uncommon for doctors to ignore abortion restrictions in countries where it is illegal. Do you really think it's safe to assume the Tebows are lying about this?

She also could have easily come back to the US and had the abortion where it was legal. Just because she was in the Philippines at the time doesn't mean that all her avenues for choice were blocked.

and we're not going to get them by disrespecting the rights of others. That's entirely my point.

Oh, I don't mind others speakin' their mind, I like to know who is against equal rights for ALL Americans as a military veteran still waitin' for my rights. :thumbsup2

That's true. Women in Ireland often go to England for abortions.

Wait. I thought the Super Bowl ad was just his mom stating that she faced the choice of having or not having Tim and she choose to have him. I didn't think it was a bad ad at all. It has been a while since I've seen it and only half paid attention though.

I'm completely pro-choice but her choice was to have him and she is putting that information out there. Sometimes I think the pro-choice folks forget that pro-choice doesn't always mean when faced with the possibility you go with abortion.

Anyway, I am not into the evangelical religious stuff but it doesn't bother me if someone wants to be overtly religious.

People (IMHO) seem to be pro-choice except when someone makes a choice that they don't like or would not make.

It makes them hypocrites regardless of their reason for not liking that choice. (yes--even if the choice is related to health)

I think for most folks, including myself, it was less about the ad and more about the organization with which Tim chose to align himself.

Although it could be both. Heck, who knows. :lmao:

Well, the organization for which Tim filmed his PSA isn't exactly known for being a bastion of morality and integrity, kwim?

Oh, ok. I have no idea what the organization was or anything. I just remember all the outcry about the ad and when I saw it I though "what is the big deal?".

Yeah, I do see that a lot. I have made this comparison between pro-choice and feminism before but I have seen women put down other women for being stay at home mom's as being traitors to the feminist movement. I was under the impression that the whole feminist movement was about earning the right to choose for yourself what you want to do. If making abortion legal was about making it a choice then regardless of the choice you make you should be cool. Right?

I will make this prediction now. When gay people finally get the right to marry in this country there will be a faction of the gay community that looks down on the members who choose not to marry the same way people in the feminist movement look down on women who choose not to work.

We really do seem to repeat all the bad aspects about our history over and over again just under different guises.

Anyway, sorry for the tangent...back to over rated/under appreciated Time Tebow (cross off as you see fit).

Yeah, I do see that a lot. I have made this comparison between pro-choice and feminisim before but I have seen women put down other women for being stay at home mom's as being traders to the feminist movement. I was under the impression that the whole feminist movement was about earning the right to choose for yourself what you want to do. If making abortion legal was about making it a choice then regardless of the choice you make you should be cool. Right?

What are they trading?

:lmao: JK FireDancer. And I only said somethin' because I know you have such a great sense of humor. :goodvibes

The organization was Focus on the Family. Are we not allowed to say it on here or something?

It's hard to talk pro choice when there's political 'n religious movements tryin' to take away that choice. :rotfl:

I've noticed the same thing regarding freedom of speech. Everyone supports freedom of speech for themselves and for those they agree with, but as soon as someone else uses their freedom of speech to say something they don't like..well, the feeling changes quickly.

Anyone see today's game?

Yes. He was amazing - 2 for 8 for 69 yards total. One of his passes was a 56-yard pass for a TD. Decker had a great run after he caught the pass for the score.

Who wins when their QB only throws 8 passes, completing just 2 of those passes?

Tebow did a great job last night! His last minute run led to a victory over the Jets!
:cheer2:

Jim Rome said on his show today that Tebow is a terrible passer but a great football player and a great person and a great leader and those things count for a lot.
