Tim Tebow

I think that he is a good person. I would be proud to have him as a Son because of that.

IMO he will not make it very far in the NFL. But so what.

So, did you actually research the facts?

As a matter of fact, I did. And the organization he did the ad for is one who's taken a deplorable attitude towards the LGBT community, so I'll hold on to my opinion on the matter.

DD absolutely loves him for his football ability (and she knows her sports):thumbsup2DD's boyfriend hates him (and he is an ex offensive, defensive linesman)...go figure:rotfl:

The ad didn't have anything to do with the gay community though. It doesn't necessarily mean Tim is homophobic. Celebrities partner with PETA all the time even if they don't agree with their position on every issue.

He seems like a good enough person and all, but I'm not a fan of anyone who feels the need to profess his/her religious beliefs in situations where those beliefs are completely irrelevant. I'd say the football field qualifies.

That aside, he won't make in the NFL but he's groomed legions of fans who will pay him handsomely for talking about his faith at every opportunity. Dude is smart, you have to give him that.

Hey, everybody's standards are different, eh? :goodvibes

I know, I've seen the ad. In fact, as controversial as the ad was, I thought it said what it needed to say in a great way. But it doesn't change the fact that it's an organization that I strongly disagree with and don't support because of their treatment of the LGBT.

Tebow seems like a nice enough guy...but it's just disappointing to me that he would align himself with an organization that supports a form of discrimination that I find abhorrent. For that, I lose a good deal of respect for the guy.

That's just my thoughts on it. And it's kinda taking away from the better discussion (football!), so back the regularly scheduled discussion... :thumbsup2

As a Bronco fan, I am not a Tebow fan at all. He could take us to the Super Bowl and win the MVP award and I would still not be a fan. (like that is going to happen with him at QB...)

When he did college ball, I could admit he was a good player. But his frequent preaching and bible thumping really turned me off. It's rude to push your religion on others and using his fame to do so made me think poorly of him.

Now that he's pro and not doing so well....I'm convinced he's just another hot shot college player who can't translate his whatever talent he has in to something usable in the big leagues.

Yawn!

He signed on to do commercials for an anti-equality organization.

No thank you.

Doesn't surprise me. Yet another reason not to like him.

I don't agree with Tim's theology-his church is not one that I would attend. I hope is that as he grows older and is exposed to more of the world some of those more rigid opinions may no longer hold with the reality he sees around him.

I saw the commercial, and it was not any where near as controversial as I had expected. He and his Mom simply told the truth about her pregnancy and her choice. Taking that choice away from other women and their MD's is not something I agree with, but it is their right to believe that and share it if they choose to.

If we all want our rights respected, then we must respect the rights of those with whom we disagree. I think to some extent, even before the Super Bowl commercial, some of the harshest criticism that were sent his way had as much to do with how open he was about his faith than the team he played for or his playing. That doesn't hold well with me. I can disagree with someone's opinion without hating them-I might think they are ignorant or think their actions are evil, but I don't hate them as people.

I'm not religious at all, but I can tell that overall his faith has led to good things for him.

<<<<<<<<<<< Still waitin' for our rights. ;)

Wait. I thought the Super Bowl ad was just his mom stating that she faced the choice of having or not having Tim and she choose to have him. I didn't think it was a bad ad at all. It has been a while since I've seen it and only half paid attention though.

I'm completely pro-choice but her choice was to have him and she is putting that information out there. Sometimes I think the pro-choice folks forget that pro-choice doesn't always mean when faced with the possibility you go with abortion.

Anyway, I am not into the evangelical religious stuff but it doesn't bother me if someone wants to be overtly religious.
