I just stumbled across info that Tim Burton is directing a (presumably claymation) version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. No idea whether or not Disney is distributing it or footing the bill, but I thought you who are fans of Burton's work would appreciate knowing it's out there. Scheduled release date is sometime in 2005.

Told you I didn't know much.... Is Johnny Depp slated for this? I assume that would make it live action...

Pertaining to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory from Yahoo Movies:
Release Date: July 15th, 2005 (wide)

Release Date Note: (10/8/03) Although this movie has long been expected to be a fall, 2005 release, I've now received word that Warner Bros. is currently aiming for June, 2005 instead. This decision may be somewhat tied to their decision to release the Tim-Burton-produced The Corpse Bride in October, 2005. (4/9/04) Warner Bros. has bumped this movie back a few weeks until July 15th, 2005.

Distributor: Warner Bros.

Production Company: Basic Entertainment (City by the Sea), Plan B Films (Troy)

Cast: Johnny Depp (Willy Wonka), Freddie Highmore (Charlie Bucket), David Kelly (Grandpa Joe), Anna Sophia Robb (Violet Beauregarde), Julia Winter (Veruca Salt), Jordan Fry, Philip Wiegratz; other cast not announced yet.

I keep an eye on Johnny Depp. ;)

Notice the mention of Tim Burton's The Corpse Bride? Woohoo, TWO Tim Burton movies. :hyper:

We like Tim Burton stuff, weird but cool. My oldest DD13 loves Harry Potter and wishes Burton would direct some of those movies, although she never likes the movies as much as the books anyway. All of my kids enjoy reading Roald Dahl (also kind of strange!) A new Charlie movie should be interesting!

OMG, start building the dark ride and I will get in line TODAY! I love that movie!

All I know is it has Johnny Depp in it and I will so be going to see it no matter if Disney is involved or not.

Shouldn't this have already been filmed? I heard about this a long time ago. Personally, I think Depp will make a great Wonka. I can't wait to see it. What a perfect movie for Burton to remake!

Doesn't Rowling's writing remind you of Dahl's? I've thought this before, but never heard anyone else mention the two authors in the same breath. Dahl's writing is just so vividly descriptive, but not in a flowery way. In a more interesting, quirky way. That's why JKR reminds me of him.

I am waiting too, anxiously. I guess if anyone cane come close to Gene Wilder, It has to be Johnny... He does great "Whacked Out" characters that are true works of art....

:bounce:

I kinda hate it when they make remakes of such cool movies. That movie is a classic. Seen it so many times.

BUT... I think Tim Burton and Depp should make this a pretty good try! If it was gonna be remade I'm glad it is those two. Should be interesting!

I see some similarities, but Dahl's writing is far superior IMO.
