Tim and Lesley Year of Million Compromises/TONS pics- 8/5 help me pg. 164!!!

Hey Lesley,

Your plan looks terrific to me, although how can it not be with TGM and your prior experience.:) Anyway, our trip is in April and we have an ADR for Coral Reef too. I'll be sure to take lots of pictures and post a TR when we get home, although I don't think I'm very good at it. My pre-trip report is not going over so well:confused3 Anyway, I'm glad Tim is feeling better. Also, I am taking my DS7 and DS5 to BBB for the "cool dude" we'll see how it goes, they are both excited to have it done after seeing some pictures! Do you have any suggestions as to when a good window might be to see if we can get an earlier ADR @ Chef Mickey's? Right now for 4/28 the earliest they have is 8:20  way too late! Any advice would be great!;) Thanks!

Diane

You are going at a busy time so that will be tough, what I did last year when I wanted was CALL EVERY DAY!!! There is also a thread somewhere in the restaraunts board here on the Dis for cancelled reservations and you could post your need there and if anyone is cancelling you could grab it up. Have you considered Chef Mickey's for dinner and Crystal Palace for breakfast so you can get in the park early, we did this last year and it was great, also if it'sMickey you want we LOVe AK Donald's Breakfastasaurus, it has Mickey, Pluto, Donald and the food is great, also gets you in the park early. If you call every day you may be surprised, I lucked out last year.
Have a GREAT trip!!!!!
Lesley

Hi Leslie, I just stumbled across your pre-trippie. I am sorry that Tim-ber was hurt, but glad he is home, resting, getting better. He needs to be in TIP TOP Shape for your big trip in...how many days is that now?

Oh, you'll have to look at your AWESOME calendar! (Great Job, TIM!) :cool1: What kind of paper did he use, AND, how did he do it? I am a computer geek, but his styles win HANDS DOWN!

Can't wait for this story to unfold more, I loved your last one...:cutie:

Lesley,
Glad that Tim is home.. and recovering! Also congrats to being under 100 days :cool1: I wish we were, even though I don't want to wish away summer. You are so planned out! I am impressed. Do you plan your counter service meals.. or see what is close? I struggle with that, but know that there are some I would like better than others.

Thank you for you opinions on the Character dining. I am re thinking my schedule. Their are a few days like our Anniversary (CRT for breakfast and 1900 Park Fare for dinner, with the kids going to BBB in between and the next night at Coral Reef with a diver) those things I won't change. My husband is very much a steak and potatoe man with no fancy sauces on anything... Not even ketchup, so he would do well at WC.:rotfl2: We have O'Hanas for breakfast... Though, now I look I really have almost all character meals.
Back to the drawing board... Do the CM get upset if you call back and change things? I had one that made a comment that I have cancelled a few times already!!! I was kinda shocked she made that comment.

I really like your planning and ith having 4 kids of my own, I know how important naps are.

I also went backl and read over your report from last year...loved the pictures and you sure had a rockey begining.

You know one thing I've never stressed ovre is counter service meals, I know you are shocked right :rotfl: ? We always eat where ever it is convenient when we are hungry, we do have our favorites though. At MK we like Pinnochio's Village Haus and AK we like Tusker House, we love Seasons at Epcot but this year I want to use our counter service credits in the World Showcase to try something new, MGM we like the ABC Commisary and Backlot Express. We avoid Pizza Planet after waiting there one year over an hour in line, it was awful!!!

My DH is a HUGE steak and potatoes man too and his FAVORITES last trip were Concourse Steakhouse and O'Hana's, the steak and meats don't have sauces on them and the potatoes are INCREDIBLE, I recommend them highly for dinner. Good luck with your planning. Oh, and about the calling back and changing, I am THE QUEEN of calling and changing things, I've never had a CM make a comment, but I do joke with them about calling and changing my mind constantly :rotfl: , they shouldn't make rude comments, hopefully that was a one time thing for you!

Thanks a lot and thanks for posting. Do you like TGM so far? Let me know if you need any planning help, I LOVE to help! Yes, Disney is a far cry from KI, we live 5 min. away so we get passes every summer.
Lesley

First off like to hear that Tim is feeling better! :yay:

We like TGM so far it is a little overwhelming at first! So far we have placed our ADR's but I believe they are getting ready to change! We also have what parks we are going to on which days! This is all so much work especially since it is our FRIST TIME!!! :upsidedow

I see you all in the double digits now! How exciting!! :cheer2:

Hi lesley,
Have not posted in a while, but glad to hear Tim is home and feeling much better. Your new itinerary is looks good. I love the calender and I'm going to show it to DH and see if he can make one since he is better with the computer than me. What size is the calender? Wow your trip is getting close, we still have 200 more days :sad2: .

Hi Lesley,

I just finished your pre trip report, I am so glad I found it b/c i loved your one last year too!

Just to reply to something you asked a few pages back, I did Ariel's Grotto last summer :cutie: with my 2 princesses (then 2 & 4) and we did get there pretty early, (i think we rode dumbo before and it was about a 10 min wait, I hadn't been there since it was 20,000 leagues under the sea, and had no clue about TGM but i digress...My girls waited about 10-15 min for Ariel and loved it. My little one LOVED the shooting water while we were waiting and so that made it go by really quick, plus it was really hot so the water felt great. I think she liked the shooting water better than meeting Ariel! When it was our turn to meet Ariel my 4 year old had a huge smile on her face, while my 2 year old gave Ariel's tail a curious tug :rotfl: ... But we had a great picture with the girls and Ariel so it was worth it, at least to do once, IMHO.

Lesley,
I am so glad I'm not the only OCD vacation planner out there. I too call so many times to change my ADR's I think they will put a ban on my phone number! Glad Tim is feeling better. Isn't it a great feeling to be in the double digits instead of triple digits? Looking forward to hearing more.

Your itinerary looks great! I really need to post a pretrip report... It's so hard getting started. I try to be clever, but nursing school is totally sucking it all out of me. LOL

Glad you like TGM, yes it is overwhelming at first. If you get your touring plans ready and want someone to look them over I've been known to do that from time to time for others :rolleyes1 , just PM me.

Thanks, oh you are NOT alone :rotfl: - Yes. . . . . .93 Days today baby !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your itinerary looks great! I really need to post a pretrip report... It's so hard getting started. I try to be clever, but nursing school is totally sucking it all out of me. LOL
I understand, it is hard when you are so busy, for me it is therapeutic though, don't ask me why :confused3
Lesley

So, I feel bad that this trip report is so drawn out because we don't leave for another 93 days. . ..Oh I'm sorry can I say that again . . . . We leave in 93 days!!!!! :woohoo: :dance3: :yay: :cheer2:
But I was looking back at my old Disboard posts and found an incomplete trip report from our very first WL stay, this seems like eons ago but it had a very funny, typical Lesley beginning, so I am going to copy and paste it here for you to read. This was in the beginning of my Disboard craze, very first ever trip report, so not many pics. I'm sorry it didn't get completed but our computer died when I was typing installment 4, I didn't have that huge of a following back then on the report so I let it die. I wanted to revive it today though to give you a bit of trip report history on us. So here it is for your reading pleasure:

WHERE IS MY BAG. . .Day 1 trip report to Wilderness Lodge

The day is finally here, it is June 4th, the day I have planned and planned for and I am SO excited. I have packed everything off the list, made sure we had extra diapers, a carry on with all of our items if a bag gets lost, packed my kids suitcases, packed a snack suitcase with fruit juice, snacks, etc. Had my magical express stickers on all of our bags (which I had to tape down since they kept falling off). YES, today is the day we’ve been waiting for, let’s hop in the car and go!!!!

My parents drop us off at the airport (Cincinnati airport) as a favor. I’m all excited. We walk up to the ticket counter and are checking our bags. I look around and I count the bags, The big black one is my husbands (check), the blue one is the snack/juice/diaper suitcase (check), the big blue one is my kids suitcase (check) the small black bag is the carry on I so carefully executed (check), the small blue bag is the carry on packed with items to keep the kids busy during the 2 hour flight (check). WHERE IS MY BAG!!!!???? You have GOT to be kidding me? Where is it? Is it in my parents car? We call them. . .NO! I had left it at our HOUSE!!! How can that be possible? Well, here I am facing Disney with no luggage, only what I have on my back and feet (luckily my comfy TEVA sandals) and one change of clothes in my carry on and luckily my swim suit which I had put in there as well. I was angry, but I knew I couldn’t let it ruin my trip. I called my parents and they arranged to take some items from the bag and would be shipping it to me (54 dollars later) in a box (just the necessities, a few tank tops, hairspray (YES this is a necessity to me) and UNDERWEAR (I did find out that they DO sell nice Disney underwear, had to find it because my box wouldn’t arrive for 2 days).

As we were making our way through security and I was in a daze my husband tapped me on the shoulder and said, look Lesley, you may have lost your luggage, but look at him (points to a burn victim in a wheelchair going through security with a lot of help) you need to put things into perspective” TRUE TRUE, o.k. count your blessings I completely understand. I have my health, and we are GOING TO DISNEY!!!

We continue onto a fabulous flight, and have a WONDERFUL magical express experience. Got to the counter no problem, waited in line 2 minutes at the counter, waited for our bus to the WL for only 4 minutes and was on board for 30 minutes because we were the first stop YES! O.K. things were looking up. We go to check in and they informed me we were on the fifth floor NOT on the Magic Kingdom side (had requested 5th or 6th floor magic kingdom side). I put on my BEST smile and asked ever so sweetly if anything was available on the 5th or 6th floor Magic Kingdom side. He got on the phone and we had room 6032 (it was a smoking room but we couldn’t smell it and didn’t care). The room was OUTSTANDING. PERFECT view of the monorail, Wishes at night was incredible, could see it all including the low one’s. RIGHT by the elevator which was right above roaring forks. So convenient for filling up mugs.

We were instantly in love with this resort, it is truly breathtaking. We had only stayed at POP century before which we loved, but you just can’t compare the two. From the breathtaking lobby to the pool, to the welcoming staff it is just incredible. We didn’t have a single complaint about the immenities here.

O.K. so to continue the story. We get there, go to MGM for Stars Wars Weekends which was GREAT. No one seemed to know that Jedi Mickey was in the Sounds dangerous theatre. Tim caught up with Chewbacca:
mgmpic.jpg

We walked right in and there was only one other couple in front of us for pictures, INCREDIBLE! Enjoyed the Stars and Motor Cars parade, great parade the kids loved it! We ate dinner at Sci Fi , didn’t enjoy that experience which was a bummer. When we got back to the hotel at 9:00 we were pleasantly surprised by the turndown service and our luggage, but wait a minute, WHERE IS THE KIDS BAG?? You’ve got to be kidding me? I called bell services and they asked for the luggage i.d. from Delta, LUCKILY I saved these, they had stuck them on the envelope of the boarding passes, I gave them the number and the bag was delivered around 11:45 p.m. but at least IT ARRIVED>

First day down, I’m exhausted, time for bed.

Things to look forward to: Me forgetting my ticket to the parks when we arrive for an 8:00 character breakfast and how that is handled : )

Missing the mouse already. . ..- Lesley

Where is my bag? WL trip DAY 2

O.K., for those of you who actually read day 1 and want more here is day 2 of our Disney World Vacation- it is myself (28 year old mom of 2, my 29 year old husband, our 4 1/2 year old son, and our 20 month old daughter) We stayed at the WL for 6 nights (June 4-10th).

DAY 2:
We awake at 6:45 to the Mickey wake up call, my son answers and he is SO excited. Today is the morning we have an 8:00 P.S. for Donald's breakfastasaurus, got to get moving to be at the bus by 7:30. We were told by the lodge front desk that the bus only comes every 1/2 an hour for this park for early breakfasts so we had to get there by 7:30 or would miss the bus. We managed to get everyone out to the bus stop by 7:20, good thing too because the bus was there at 7:25 and had pulled away by 7:30.
We arrive at Animal Kingdom and my head is filled of thoughts of what my childrens faces will look like when they see Mickey, Donald, etc. Happy Disney thoughts. My husband goes in front of me with the stroller and puts his card in for entrance to the parks and my sons card. I reach into my back pocket where I always keep my card and it ISN'T THERE!!!!! Oh no, panic sets in, I HAD LEFT MY CARD BACK AT THE HOTEL!! Here are my children SO excited to see Mickey, it's 8:00, time for breakfast and I CAN'T GET INTO THE PARK. Thoughts of trying to get back to the resort to get the card and get back fill my head, but then we'd miss our p.s., would they keep it for us? I had booked this p.s. so we could get to the park when it opened. BUMMER! What to do? The VERY NICE lady at the gate pointed me in the direction of the customer service window and told me they could help me. As my inpatient husband and children waited for me on the other side of the gate I ran over to the counter. There was a woman in front of me I wanted to kill who had decided to dispute being overcharged for dinner at the MK in front of me for 15 minutes. PATIENCE WEARING THING, DO THIS ANOTHER TIME LADY! FINALLY, my turn at the window. The very pleasant CM was able to look me up in the computer by room number and issue me a one day pass, INCREDIBLE! I was through the gates by 8:20. THANK GOODNESS.
We had a great breakfast at Donald's. The buffet line was SUPER long, but the food was great, LOVED the separate fruit bar, and the character interaction was wonderful. Met Donald, Mickey, Goofy, and Pluto. The kids had a blast. Made it into the parks by 9:10. Walked onto the Dinosaur ride, super scary but a great ride. Went to Triceritops spin, grabbed a Fastpass for the safari, hit the Tarzan show (LOVED IT!) and then did the safari and before we left did "It's tough to be a bug" 3-D show. My poor 20 month old daughter literally thought she was dying when the theatre filled with smoke, I felt so badly for her.:guilty: I thoroughly enjoyed the show, my son thought it was great, but I wouldn't recommend this for small children who wouldn't understand it isn't real, I would have skipped it had I known.
BAck to the resort for naps around 1;30 after eating lunch at the pizza place at AK.
We had ressie's for Teppakanayi in Japan at Epcot for dinner so we decided we'd enjoy WL's boat service and take our time on the LOVELY evening to take the boat to the Contemporary and hop on the monorail for dinner. We loved the Flower Festival displays, we were there on the last day of the festival, very pretty. Walked to Japan and had the BEST meal of our trip. The kids loved our waitress, she did tons of tricks and kept them entertained and the food was EXCELLENT! The bill was 101.00  but used the dining plan and didn't pay a dime that night, NICE! Took our time shopping in the World Showcase, then I had to find a store that sold underwear (Mousegears does) since I didn't have my luggage. FOUND SOME!! Not bad- 10.00 for 2 pairs : ) They were cute too : )
We decided to beat the crowds and not stay for Illuminations (not my choice, my hubby's, but it was fine after a long day). Returned to the WL turndown service with the radio playing softly and chocolates on the pillows :cloud9: , which my kids LOVED. Jumped on the elevator right by our room down to Roaring forks to fill our mugs with hot chocolate for the fireworks. We watched the fireworks from our wonderful view on our balcony. WHAT A GREAT DAY! Hope my box from UPS comes tomorrow. I don't have my strapless bra and the only shirt in my carry on is a tank top, and the nice shirts with sleeves in the gift shop downstarirs cost 32.00!! YIKES. Goodnight.

O.K., here is day 3 of our DisneyWorld vacation.. . . .

Today is Magic Kingdom Day. . . . Monday, can't wait to see that castle all decked out for the 50th celebration. We awaken early and catch breakfast at Roaring Forks, then we catch a bus to Magic Kingdom, very crowded bus and we stop at the Grand Floridian to fill the bus entirely. We make it to the front gate of the MK just in time for the grand opening- we have never seen this before and it truly was magical. All of the characters arrived by train and they sang and danced and opened the park by having a family throw some pixie dust it gave me that "magical feeling". Then we waited in line to put our tickets into the turnstyles for about 20 minutes, seemed like forever, it was SO CROWDED. We made it to Main Street - my favorite place on earth. I held my camera up high to catch a shot of the castle, it is so beautiful, but we could barely move on Main Street because it was literally wall to wall people, CRAZY. Here is a pic of the crowds that morning:
WalkingInToMagicKingdom.jpg

We make our way to Fantasy Land. I dashed into Peter Pans treasures to see if Tink had been woken up yet and there was a little girl in there waking her at that very moment, oh well, maybe next trip. . . .we went to Philarmagic. While we were waiting for the show to start my hubby grabbed Fast Passes for Peter Pan. We did Philarmagic (WHAT A GREAT SHOW, JUST CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF IT) first with no problem, theatre only half full, then after that walked right onto Small World (a classic), then we only waited 5 minutes for the Pooh's honey pots. Here is luke on the honeypots:

Lukeinhoneypots.jpg

My son wanted to ride the carosel, as we were sitting there on the ride I looked all around me, saw the castle, the beautiful scenery all around, that's when it hit me. WOW, I'm really here, isn't it magical, I just want to soak in every minute of it, I've waited so long to be here, I wish I could just make the moment freeze in time :cloud9:  . After I was awoken from this daydream as the ride came to an end we used our Fast pass for Peter Pan's magical flight. We then made our way to Adventure land. My son REALLY wanted a Mickey ice cream bar and it was HOT, so we took an ice cream break and then we took the ride all around the park on the Magic Kingdom Express Train. My son is a HUGE train fan. The CM gave him an honorary "conductor for a day" card, he was thrilled. We enjoyed the 20 minute ride all around the park, one of our favorite things to do to see the entire park. We then got off and did parent swap for Thunder Mountain Railroad with the fast pass we had aquired. It was my son's first time riding, he LOVED it and thought it was really cool he got to ride twice, once with my husband and once with me.
LUNCHTIME- OH MY GOSH, I couldn't believe the crowds. We tried to go to the Fast Food place in Liberty Square (the name escapes me now) because we love the fish and chips (well at least I do). We get in line and the lady tells us their fryers are broken and they have no fish, no fries, no chicken, only pb&j. Oh no, we make our way to Pinnochios Village Haus and it is PACKED OUT! My husband circled with my daughter (who was now sound asleep in the stroller) trying to find a table while my son and I waited in line for an hour for food, CRAZY! We had to fight the crowds while I balanced my tray full of food trying to locate my husband in the busy restaraunt. 10 minutes of searching for him and almost spilling my food went by and we found him in a corner. After lunch we took the boat back to WL, it was so nice being able to roll the stroller onto the boat while our daughter slept. INCREDIBLE.
We get back and I put the kids down for naps and I call to the front desk to see if the UPS package had arrived. They said it was out with the bellman for delivery. YES!!! :woohoo: It arrived and I have never been so happy to touch tank tops and underwear before in my life ;) , now I could continue to enjoy the vacation.
Back to the Magic Kingdom for a 6:45 dinner at Cinderella's Royal table. I had been told over and over again by the CM's not to expect any characters for dinner so I had ruled that out. . . .well when we walked in there sat Cinderella and Mary Poppins on the throne, my kids were thrilled! There was only like 4 other families waiting for dinner and they had already had pictures taken with her so we walked right up to them. UNBELIEVABLE! Now that was some pixie dust pixiedust: . We enjoyed a great meal, I had never been inside of the castle before, I enjoyed every minute of it. My daughter had lost it by the end of the meal and I ended up holding her. My husband wanted to go back to the hotel with her since she had "lost it", but I had my heart set on seeing Spectromagic. So. . .we compromised, he took her back to the WL by boat and Luke (my son and I) stayed for Spectromagic. Well, we had incredible front row seats, we managed to get in a gated area before the finished gating it in and we were in the front with no crowds to fight. Of COURSE right as the lights went down he HAD TO PEE!!! It was an emergency. I scanned around me and saw nothing but crowds and gated off streets, and I also had the best seats of my life, WHAT TO DO??:confused3 I did what any good mother would do : ) I told him to hold it :rotfl: :rotfl2: About half way into the INCREDIBLE show he couldn't hold it any longer. So. . .I gave up my spot and tried to fight the crowds (with double stroller in tow, not fun) to the front gate, by the time I made it to the locker area under the train station the parade had ended and the SEA of people were there surrounding us storming the gate. I asked the CM where the nearest restrooms were, they pointed in the direction of the park (the opposite way I could feasibly go at this point) and I was in a state of panic, what to do. . what to do. I rushed to the bus stop hoping the bus would be there (the line for the boat to WL was enormouse at this point). Of COURSE the bus took 20 minutes to get there this particular night but my son was a trooper. There was a great guy in line with us trying to distract Luke by asking him all kinds of Thomas the Tank Engine questions which kept his mind off of it (a bit). We made it to the Lodge and he pee'd his little heart out. Watched WISHES from the deck and ended a magical day. Tomorrow is Tuesday, MGM day, we have a FAntasmic package scheduled at night, it thunderstormed last year and we weren't able to see the show, here's hoping for good weather.

Lesley

Since it cuts off here I will tell you we were able to see Fantasmic that night, it was an INCREDIBLE show, it actually started raining and drizzled a bit throughout the show but the show went on and it was INCREDIBLE, I've been in love with Fantastmic ever since as you can tell from more recent trip reports. Lauren fell asleep during it and she still hasn't seen it, Luke loved it and still loves the show. The rest of the trip was great, can't recall specific details because it's been a few years but thanks for going back in time with me,hope you enjoyed it and look forward to this years trip, KNOW I DO!!!!
Lesley

Loved that trip back in time! ;) Wish I had been on the boards back then to enjoy it. Thanks for sharing it with us now. I have a trip report in a Word document from our October trip. I have only gotten to the part where we actually got to the park. I don't have many pictures, so I figure people probably wouldn't read it now. :confused3 Yours was great, so maybe I'll give it a try, and put a "no pictures included" disclaimer. :rotfl:

Lovin' your pre-trip report! Yours was the first trip report I read after I joined DIS and I've saved alot of ideas from that. :thumbsup2

We'll be there 6/2-10 so it's helpful to get the perspective of someone who's been there at the same time/around the same time.

I'm also a big TGM fan and really look forward to testing out the ideas I've found there (this will be our first ever family trip and since I haven't been since I was 5, it's a whole new world)!

Looking forward to reading more! :cheer2:
