Arriving at POR

I had completed the green forms on the plane – making a complete pigs ear of one of them, so I had to get a new one from one of the hostesses. – Typical, here was I being super confident – ‘I know how to fill them forms in, no problem’, so what do I do - I write ‘male’ on the wrong line!
Coming up to the immigration desks I was still nervous. The couple in front were sent to the back to fill in a new form and the chap at the desk looked real mean! But, no problem, he was really nice and with a stamp in our passports we went to get our luggage for the first time.

After putting our cases on the conveyer belt we jumped on the shuttle to the terminal. Our hand luggage was scanned again as we came of the shuttle – this was our first look at a National Guardsman in full uniform with a very large assault rifle!
We nearly lost Nanny on the X-ray machine – he fell down a crack . They had to stop the machine to get him out! – Jade insisted on putting him through the X-ray machines!

We made our way down to the baggage claim area. Our driver from Tiffany Towncars was standing with a sign with our name on . After saying hello he walked us to the conveyer belts for our flights and when our cases came round he helped me get them onto a trolley. He then led us outside to the pickup point, and he ran off to get the car. It took him about 5 minutes, and with the cases loaded we were of to our grocery stop. Not sure where the stop was – it was a Publix grocery store somewhere. After stocking up on cookies, chips and other assorted snacks we headed off to Port Orleans Riverside.
Being a bit of a baseball fan I started to chat to the driver about the World Series. But, it turned out he wasn’t a baseball fan – he was a cricket fan! I didn’t think that Americans understood the game, never mind watched it! He explained that he was from Pakistan originally, so was a big cricket fan.

It was about 6:45pm when we arrived at POR. Asfar, our driver, stopped outside the luggage room and a CM collected our cases and put them on a trolley. We then paid Asfar and arranged the pickup time for our return journey in two weeks.
There were no queues for check in, so we went to the nearest position and got ‘checked in’. We got room 1408 – a corner room on the first floor in block 14. Just what I had requested. (Although when I requested 1st floor I forgot that that is the ground floor in the US!).
We gave our room number to Bell Services so they could drop our cases off and went to find our room. The room was in an ideal position. Close to the main building and food court, and close to the South Bus Depot (Deepo). Our cases arrived after about 15 minutes, and after tipping the bellman we quickly had a quick wash and change, as we were due to meet Mike and his family (whom we had met in DIS chat), in MK at 8:00pm.

Next instalment – First Night in MK
