We are getting our tile put in 3 weeks. The guy told us about 4 days

day 1 tear out old tiel and carpet and prep floors
day 2 put in tile
day 3 i assume put in tile ?
day 4 seal it

we are getting in about 470 sq ft

I didnt think about question until now so i hope someone can help me.

1. once the tile is in how much time must pass before walking on it?
I need to know if we need to stay in a hotel for a night. Theres no way to get to kitchen, bathroom or bedroom without walking on the tile area

2. does it smell ? dd and I have allergies

3. anything else I should be aware of??

I'm hoping it wont take the 4 days but it doesn seem like a lot of work

It'll take that long. We tiled our whole house ourselves and yes, it will take a whole day to set so NO walking on it! Then it will have to be grouted, again no walking on it!

The time seems reasonable. Your day 3 ? is probably for grouting. That would need to be done before sealing.

1. Best to wait at least overnight to walk in it.
2. Tile, mortar, and grout have no odor. I don't remeber my sealer having any either.
3. It's better to be inconvenienced for an extra day or so than to have a shoddy job that will haunt you forever.

Be aware, it may take longer.

We had around 600 or so sf of tile put in last year post floods (March). We had carpet & my dh ripped it out because it turned funky from the constant water in/flood. So after he ripped it out, he had to take out the tack strips.

The tile guy came & measured (the owner) & didn't tell his tiler that the floor had sticky carpet stuff still on it so the tile guy added a day & had to put some stuff on the cement so the tile would stick to it. That took a day to dry.

Then he started tiling the center. The tile butts up against other tile so he put in the border because they didn't make the previous tile anymore & then started to tile from that border towards the middle on the first day. This guy only works for a few hours a day so it took him longer.

We couldn't walk on it until he came the next day & then he finished the center & started the cuts. He finished the cuts on the next day & let the tile dry for a day & then grouted it.

We just had him do our bathroom & shower. And it also took a good 4 days.

We were able to walk around the areas that were not tiled but not on the tile itself. So on the days that he did the center, we could walk the edge & on the days he did the edge we could walk on the center. We could walk on it when he grouted it too.

Thank good ness I asked. I Dh was planning on staying here but not happening-lol! I'll have to get a few things ready for a few days. I have work those days and dd has school. The Dis family always knows whats best:goodvibes
