Tikiman's latest report on Poly DVC

I miscounted I'm not sure how I did it. :confused3 But after recounting using Tikiman's Tahiti floor plan there are 215 rooms (72 on the 2nd and 3rd floor and 71 on the first floor).

At Jambo House conversion it was 3 hotel rooms converted into one 2BR lockoff. 215 divided 3 = 71. If they are going have 140+ rooms they might be doing a lot of dedicated villas in Tahiti. But aren't the rooms in Tahiti larger than rooms were at AKL, Jambo House? So maybe they'll move walls and water lines etc.

Rooms in the Poly are significantly bigger than the rooms at Jambo.

There are 143 rooms in Tahiti (48 on 2nd and 3rd and 47 on 1st) and they are 431 sq-ft each not including the balcony.

Thanks for the post Tikiman. I guess I just can't count anymore.

Anyway, Tikiman, do you know how they will be remodeling the rooms into DVC villas? Will it be 3 to 1 conversion or 47 - 2BR DVC villas?

Also curious as to what is going on at the POLY right now in general....Is rehab in full stride?

Just for kicks, I checked availability in December (slow season rates now on line) and there was greatly reduced December availability.

No problem.
I wish I knew how they are going to do it but I have not seen the plans yet. I did post on my Facebook some photos of test patterns they are trying out in the hallway. When I find out more I will try and write up a report.

Since the latest info of them scaling back the DVC project some strange things have been happening. Back in May I was told that Rapa Nui would not get the new room design because they were just going to take it down. Now the latest plans show Rapa Nui still there and that is where the test patterns are. Also they have started all the longhouses on time for the new room design except Tahiti is a few weeks behind and still not closed to get the new room design. I am guessing it will not get the new room design and will close later this year to start work on DVC. All longhouses are done with renovations except Tahiti and Rapa Nui.

Tikiman, I thought I saw some mention of a lazy rubber being added. Is that still on those plans? Maybe I misread.

No lazy rubber but there was a lazy river designed into the new pool but im not sure it survived the cut yet.

Tikiman, any thoughts as to the possibility that Rapa Nui will also become DVC? If I understand correctly, it also hasn't been refurbed and is next to Tahiti seemingly making a great location to add more DVC rooms.

I've seen others speculate as to what type of rooms will be present in the bungalows. I can't see any way such a small resort could have anywhere near that many GV's. I could see 2 bedrooms but, as someone else mentioned, the orientation doesn't seem right. I'd have a hard time believing they are all studios. Assuming the longhouse conversion resulted in lockoff two bedrooms, there would be a TON of studios if the bungalows were all studios as well. Also, since all the bungalows appear the same size, I doesn't seem that there will be a mixture of different room types.

Yeah you know I was having some discussions last night with some Polynesian people and we were discussing how these test patterns showed up in Rapa Nui recently and I don’t have any information that would back this up but I would bet money that Rapa Nui gets converted also. It is not due to close yet for rehab anyway but seeing they are testing designs in it makes me believe they may turn it into DVC. I did hear that Tahiti is being pushed out to close and I found out last night that some work to the beach at Tahiti will start in September along with a new marina building that will go where the Premium Cabana is. It looks like things are going to start in September so with Tahiti getting pushed out I am thinking once it closes it will be for DVC redesign.

I am going to have to add Tikiman on facebook just for the info!

I have stayed at the poly maybe 10 times, and i was SOOO disappointed in it in Dec. 2012 (Tahitit room 3001). I was told that it was getting rehabbed this year, so I hope everyone there had just given up on it, hence its poor condition.

Just thinking out loud, I could see Disney converting the Tahiti building as follows:

Third Floor
6 - dedicated studios (Rooms 3001, 3014, 3015, 3028, 3029 & 3048)
4 - 2 BR dedicated
6 - 2 BR lock-off
2 - GV (Using 3005 - 3010 for one and 3019 - 3024 for the other)

Second Floor
Just like the Third Floor

OR

6 - dedicated studios (Rooms 2001, 2014, 2015, 2028, 2029 & 2048)
6 - 2 BR dedicated
8 - 2 BR lock-off

First Floor
5 - dedicated studios (Rooms 1014, 1015, 1028, 1029 & 1048)
6 - 2 BR dedicated
8 - 2 BR lock-off

What could be better, our favorite pre DVC resort now having DVC added to it. We can hardly wait. We have not stayed there since we joined DVC several years ago. Thanks Tikiman for all this info....smjj
