Tikiman's latest report on Poly DVC

A Poly DVC would be nice but overall, the price points are getting out of control for us buying straight through Disney...

A note on VGF sales... Was on the Disney Magic last week and they were selling VGF for $160 per point with discounts based on # of points... They were also offering AKV and Aulani for $150 per point, with similar per point discounts... A hook for a lot of folks, was the $1000 shipboard credit as well for 100+ point purchases...

Seems like most folks who bought points bought small add ons (50-100) at AKV or VGF... Not a lot of folks bought points at Aulani...

I like the fact Rapa Nui area is mentioned. Perhaps the final plan will be more than just water bungalow GVs and Tahiti longhouse.

Getting? To me the train left the station at or before $100 a point.

:lmao::thumbsup2

Those who purchased at the Disney Vacation Club resort got the best deal. Purchases at $50ish a point.

I can't believe how fast the prices have sky rocketed since BLT opened. Essentally doubling in price (with incentives to start) from open to sell out.

I can't imagine that the Poly will be at all economical.

Paid $63 pp. Ever since then, every increase has seemed ridiculously high. I agree that $100 seemed over the top. However, if I were not already a member I would seriously consider buying in even at these prices. We appreciate our DVC more and more as time goes on. It has been perfect for us.

I just want to note that your initial cost is only about 12%-20% of the overall costs of a 29 yr contract--I am not sneezing at the up to 8% difference, but it is really a relatively small part of the overall costs. I really think the lower MF (which are fairly out of our control) should be the true measure of economy. The difference between the lowest and highest MFs on 29 yr properties is 31% of your total costs. Of course those are projections based on current rates but you get the point. Initial costs are just the cover charge.

Was the $1,000 shipboard credit just for AKV and Aulani or for VGF also?

If I weren't already a member I'd just buy 25 or 50 points and do all else by trading in.

We joined in January 1992 and bought 310 points (enough for a 2-bedroom, high season, for a week) at what was then the Disney Vacation Club, now Old Key West. Price per point? I think it was about $52/point for 50 years AND free park passes through 12/31/99. We added another 490 points over the next years, all priced at $53-59 per point.

I look at the price points now being offered at $150+ and the mind boggles. Combine the higher price per point with the greater number of points per night at newer resorts, and it becomes one expensive venture to wade into.

Well the original picture seemed like quite a big expansion . I think even scaled back it will be quite a bit of DVC rooms .

Are they still adding the lazy river? I've been reading his page and can't figure that part out.

. . .
I am a little disappointed if this is all they will build as a Poly DVC. Tahiti has just under 75 rooms based on Tikiman's Tahiti longhouse floor plan. There would be even less 2 BR villas.

Is that just 1 floor?
I thought I saw a 140 type number somewhere.
If its done somewhat like Jambo, a 2BR lockoff takes 3 rooms so that still I'm the 60 unit range + the on water "Grand villas"

I miscounted I'm not sure how I did it. :confused3 But after recounting using Tikiman's Tahiti floor plan there are 215 rooms (72 on the 2nd and 3rd floor and 71 on the first floor).

At Jambo House conversion it was 3 hotel rooms converted into one 2BR lockoff. 215 divided 3 = 71. If they are going have 140+ rooms they might be doing a lot of dedicated villas in Tahiti. But aren't the rooms in Tahiti larger than rooms were at AKL, Jambo House? So maybe they'll move walls and water lines etc.
