Tikiman update

Unfortunately there will always be people that think nothing of making a meal out of the offerings simply because they paid for concierge. I just read a trip report where some family ended up not going to dinner a few times because the offerings were so good at the concierge lounge.:earseek: Personally I don't blame them from taking the water bottles away. I believe that if one can afford concierge then they can afford to buy bottled water. From what I have read on these boards about folks acting like pigs and grabbing all the food to the bumpkins that turn up in a public lounge wearing robes just makes me not want to waste money staying with such clowns. I really don't think it has anything to do with some getting upgrades and not know how to behave in concierge. I've read too many times here that there are folks that always stay concierge and think nothing of turning up at the lounge in their robe! Unbelievable!

Your post reminded me of a guest that I saw last year at YC Concierge. Several times in the morning, this woman would show up for breakfast in her concierge robe(pajamas underneath), with her slippers, and her hair was unbrushed, kind of a major bed-head look, if you can get the visual...Very undignified in my opinion. However, to each their own.

I don't want to change the focus on this thread. I hope that things will remain as they are in concierge and not be changed because of the actions of some.

Hi Tikiman,

I feel guilty that I started this thread! Glad you are back, but please unwind before you have to jump on these boards and answer all of us bombarding you with questions. We are sure your updates are coming. All in due time! Thanks again Steve and Tara.

Hi WDWFan-
At least the woman you saw had pajamas underneath her concierge robe, the ones I saw didn't have anything but their birthday suit and with children around it's just not the way you should arrive in the lounge. I myself would be embarrassed to show up like that.
As someone else said, if you have the money for concierge then you should also be the type of person that knows how to behave and present yourself .

Maybe I am getting the wrong impression from some of these posts but I get the general feeling from some of the "slang" (what is a "bumkin" anyway?) that people who are upgraded or who otherwise could not afford concierge go hand in hand with bad behavior. Last Nov. we stayed concierge as a treat for our 20th anniversary. DH owns a landscape construction business and I am a Stay-at-Home Mom. I personally could not believe the rudeness of some of the guests toward the CMs - you would think the world owed them something with all of their demands.
DH and I loved to people watch in the lounge. I actually thought it was funny how some people tried to "look the part" of a concierge guest ("let's make sure everyone sees me in my robe"). At the same time many people were not able put their garbage in a container two steps away (maybe the maid usually cleans up). Common courtesy is taught not inbred. If children witness their parents being polite, respectful of others and using sound judgement their behavior follows (with a little coaxing of course).

As to the 12 year old and the deserts - yes by that age she should have known better but I am more apt to make allowances for children than adults. One night after I guided our 3 kids through the desert table, I thought I had everything under control. After seating them at a table I went back for my own desert. When I returned my 7 year old was in tears and a very nice CM was mopping milk from the floor with a rag. My initial response was to be upset that DS had not been more careful (especially since we were staying concierge). The CM (I am sorry I didn't get her name) was wonderful. She calmed my son down and proceeded to reassure me (as I was profusely apologizing) that it was only milk and that all kids are entitled to make mistakes. My son actually hugged her and thanked her for being so nice. I was sorry I was so hard on him.

Bottom line is that we all need to treat each other with caring and respect and teach our children likewise regardless of socioeconomic standing.

before we judge anyone who has said they had dinner from the concierge offerings, let me offer another side. A couple of the days on our last vacation at YC concierge, we had eaten a big breakfast and a big lunch so a bite of the warm offering, a piece of cheese, piece of celery was all we wanted for dinner. I don't think that is out of line.

JMHO

AND a big thank you to Tikiman. Your site has made me really interested in the Polynesian. Can't wait to read your report!

Lisa3 I totally agree with your last statement. With the incident that I spoke of, I did not get the impression that this woman lacked anything, but in my opinion, some modesty and good taste about the way she presented herself in the morning in the concierge lounge. It is just the way it is with most things in life, some people are kind and courteous and then others lack good judgment.

This has gotten turned around already on this thread...I don't know how old the "girl" was but it was 12 desserts...not a 12-y-o girl :earsgirl:

DisneyFans4- I am lucky that the woman I saw had on her pajamas. I felt so embarrassed for her because she was the only one, but it totally didn't bother her. Oh well. I can't imagine the bathrobe with nothing underneath. No wonder things may change in concierge.

I can't wait to hear the rest of what Tikiman has to report about his experiences during his stay at the Poly. :D

Steve, thanks for the info on colors. It sounds as if the TV may be on top of a long, low unit as it was years ago at the Polynesian??? The addition of some desk space sounds great to me.

Very curious to find out about the changes to the GCH.::yes:: I'll be googling away to find your report if you don't find time or psychic energy :D to post it here.

Pattymouse, I don't think you should feel badly about your thread. If Tikiman didn't want to answer, he wouldn't have added his posts to your thread. As usual, Tikiman is generous in his info to fellow Polynesian lovers.

Who else is anxious to see the changes when they occur?

PSherman - I don't think there is anything wrong with using the offerings as you mentioned, in fact we will probably be doing the same thing when we are there!

I think the problem is when people treat the offerings more like an a-y-c-e buffet and pile stuff high on their plates to the detriment of the other guests (basically making pigs of themselves) that people get annoyed about. I think in general it is a matter of common courtesy, would you grab 10 hoers d'ouvers at a fancy party because you didn't have dinner? Would you go to the laundromat or the IHOP in your bathrobe?? Then WHY would you do this at Disney? It boggles the mind:rolleyes:

Hey
Tikiman (Steve)!!
Welcome back!!!! Although you and I have different opinions on the Poly(but it looks like we have the same feelings on the Dolphin) I think we both have respect for each others opinions!:)
Im so sorry some people would send you negative e-mails!!!!!
That really makes me mad!!!!!!! You give GREAT info on the Polynesian!!!! I have sent MANY people to your site!! And many friends have enjoyed their trips because of the info! And you have no need to give this info, except you do it for the pleasure of others!! You are great guy!!! So just ignore the jerks who dont have a life so they need to be mean to you!!!! Ok enough of that!!:teeth:
Thanks as usual for your great report!! And happy planning your next trip!

Welcome home, Tikiman! Well, now that a room renovation has been announced, I know I will need to return to the Polynesian as soon as the updated rooms are finished. After walking around the Polynesian and going to 'Ohana a few weeks ago, I know it is time to return. ;)

DutchsMommy-
That is exactly how I meant it. Sure, help yourself to the offerings but don't treat it like an all you can eat buffet. You can't imagine standing in line waiting and having the person in front of you pile his plate up as high as he can and then empty the pot! Nothing like leaving a little something for the rest of us in line. I mean have a little bit of scruples!!! That is a person that just plain doesn't care about anybody else.
I remember one morning going for breakfast and a woman arriving with a plastic grocery bag and completely filling it with the various danishes and muffins! This woman didn't care who was watching her. Sometimes I wonder whether these people are even concierge guests or just somehow entering the building. Nobody asks for ID so how do they know whether your staying concierge or not.
It's just really ashame.

Hey Tikiman,

Welcome back! Just wondering if there was any mention of the Poly adding High Speed Internet Access anytime in the future.

Thanks so much!!!!!

Tikiman, Welcome back and thank you so much for all your wonderful info. We are heading back to the Poly very soon. Some of the people in the concierge lounge bother me as well. I've seen first hand how some people horde food and try to make a meal out of it. It just isn't right. I'm not at all surprised that the water was stopped. I've seen some families take 10 bottles or more at one time. You are absoultely right, a few people have to ruin it for the rest of us. I share your opinion of the Dolphin (and Swan too), no magic and just too many business people. I'm glad you had a good time. The Poly has always held a special place in my heart!

I just got around to reading this thread and I must say I am a little surprised. This will be our third trip to WDW, second trip to the Poly, but our first ever experience with concierge. We have been looking forward to the trip and up to this point I was worried that we would not "fit in" as we are avg. type folks. What I am understanding is that we may not fit in because we don't push to the front of the line, take all the food, leave a mess behind, and speak to others as if we are on a higher plane. I want to have a nice, relaxing time. I except myself and my children to treat others with respect and common courtesy. I guess I am worried that these problems are widespread enough to make the resort rethink their policies and procedures. Is it still worth it to go? Should we go to another resort or perhaps stay with Poly and just drop concierge? Somebody offer an opinion and give me some insight.

Lisa3 I am the one that used the term bumpkin but if you would have read my entire post you would have seen what else I wrote. I SAID that just because someone gets upgraded doesn't mean they don't know how to act in concierge. There are many here that go concierge quite a bit, paying for it, and act like bumpkins making meals out of a concierge offering. You see, I did not agree with another poster that said that it seemed the upgraded ones didn't know how to act. I think you mixed two posts together to come up with your assumption.

Me too! Me too!::yes:: :wave2:

When we were there in July (12-19), we didn't see anyone in the concierge lounge in robes. But then again, we didn't spend a lot of time there this trip. This was only our second time in concierge but the lounge seemed less crowded than it was in the Tahiti building. No long lines waiting for the food offerings. People were fairly polite.
We did find the food "hoarders" at Chef Mickey's for dinner one night. A family at a table near ours had just sat down. One family member took a whole plate full of shrimp and put on the table and another took the rest of the cheesecake (almost half) and put it on the table. This was before they even started the buffet.
I hope they don't change the GCH too much - I love walking into that lobby.

Tikiman - thanks for all your hard work. I know personaaly the info I got from you and your website helped make my Poly LVC stay even more enjoyable. I can't help but feel that the hateful E mailer is like the concierge hogs. Because of their obnoxious actions the rest of us suffer.::yes::
