Quick question. I have Poly LVC booked for 5/10-5/13. I have requested a non-smoking ground floor room. Am I going to be happy in a ground floor room? Should I ask for a specific room #? I certainly don't want to get stuck with a giant tree or shrub blocking our view. Any advice? If I request third floor, am I going to be able to smell the smoke? AAGGHH! It never seems to get easier, does it. :teeth:

Thank you.

We had room 3506, never a problem smelling smoke.

First floor looked great, I do not recall any bushes, maybe a tree, but
nothing that would block the view totally.

Next time we will get bottom floor, walk right out to the beach.

Mickey,

I have some pics of the Hawaii building in my signature. You can judge for yourself. I would stay away from 1501.

We stayed in room 3501 and did have a smoke odor just about every morning around 8am. Couldn't tell where it was coming from. Wish they would make everything smoke free.

I think it's best to keep your requests short and to the point. Getting too picky and asking for certain room numbers is going to be confusing for the room assigner. So I would suggest studying the resort map, pick one or two longhouses that appeal to you, and have them added to your request. For example, our Poly request is "non smoking, Fiji or Samoa, no ground floor".

:)

:wizard: Well, since we have a LVC room, we will be in the Hawaii longhouse. I have already requested ground floor (need to stay away from smoke at all costs). I was just wondering if there were a lot of obstructed views on the ground floor of Hawaii on the lagoon side. Make sense? :teeth:

Thanks to all that have replied. I will try to stay away from 1501.

Sorry, read your post too fast! ;)

Now, with concierge I think it's totally acceptable and quite common for people to request certain room #'s. We did that at YC and the concierge staff not only took our request but guaranteed us the room we wanted. :) Just make sure to mention it to them on your form and again by phone maybe a week or two before you arrive. Usually they'll do their best to give you the room you want... since they have control over who goes where. :)

I have stayed Poly LVC > 10 times and have smelled smoke about half the time. I always request the third floor so that's the risk I take with a smoking optional floor. We are non-smokers but were between two families once, one smoking and one not. These 2 groups yelled at each other across our balcony re: the smoking for several days. I guess I would just comment that if you can't stand the smoke, stay out of the fire. Most people do not have a problem with smoky smells on the third floor, this was just our experience. Enjoy the Poly, it has so much to offer. Threeehearts

Wow, those pics of the fireworks from your balcony are very cool. I'd love to stay there. I stayed at the Polynesian a couple of times as a kid, but I don't ever remember seeing that. Probably we didn't have a room with a view.

Our last visit was May last year where we stayed 5 nights at Polynesian Lagoon View concierge - room 3504..

The view was fantastic - directly to the Castle..
Fireworks every night from balcony was totally amazing...

Not a single smell of smoke..... se this I would not hesitate at all..

Take the third floor a have a wonderful stay...

Thanks guys for all of the replies. Does anyone out there have a ground floor room that they would recommend?

TigrLvsPooh: I didn't realize that the concierge staff did their own room assignments. That is definately good information ;) .

Maybe I will just email them with a few room requests. I know, I know, they are not guaranteed, but we can all dream. :goodvibes

I will have to take a look again at Tikiman's site as to where the smoking rooms are located.

Keep the recommendations coming.

I myself still prefer the ground floor. There is not many rooms that are blocked by anything but there are a few. There are just as many on the 3rd floor because of the tree tops and on the second floor many of the tree tops on the beach block the view. Take a look at my Hawaii page and you will see every room on the side of the building. The only bushes that block the ground floors were right next to our room but they were no taller than 2 feet (see photo below) I would not try to request a specific room. I think you are safe with most ground level rooms. Half the 3rd floor (the half closest to the lounge) is non-smoking and should have no smell but I still say go for the freedom of the ground level patio.

Not sure what is wrong with 1501. You can see it in the photo being the first room after the lounge and you can see right to it from the beach.

We stay in 1505.

Here is the castle from our room.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I have to ask:

denman007, what kind of camera did you use to take those pictures? They are fabulous pictures. And what kind of zoom lens do you have?

You guys are great. Tikiman - I did take a look at your site and the pictures were great. Your room looked great. Thanks again for all of the advice. I think I will just stay with our original request - Non Smoking ground floor.

Either way, we are going to the Poly :cool1:

We like the 1st floor also; our 2 favorite rooms are probably 1502 and 1517, but I agree with Tikiman - don't get too specific. Here's the view from 1517:

steveanddonna,

Hey that is a great shot. Mind if I use it on the web pages?

We stayed in Room #1508 in September and I was very dissappointed. After waiting for the Pixie Dust to fall on us from previous trips hoping for an upgrade from GVC to LVC (not even for our 20th anniversary), I took matters into my own hands and booked LVC. I tried not to be too picky and just told them that I wanted to surprise my family with a fabulous view. Well, the view was very nice - as long as you were STANDING on the patio! The hedge in front of the room was so high that when you sat down all you saw were these shrubs. DH who is a landscaper even offered to trim them for me when he saw how dissappointed I was. I had envisioned sitting on the patio after the kids went to sleep watching the castle change colors - it didn't happen. We even mentioned to the CMs that the shrubs were too high and asked if they might be scheduled for a trim during our stay - no response.

I should have asked for a 3rd floor room. I know my view might have been somewhat obstructed by the rail but that would have been better than what we had. Unfortunately, I don't think we will ever be able to afford LVC in the future - I got a great rate. It was also scheduled to be out last trip for at least 4 years. :sad1:

Pozey, thanks. I used a Canon 300D with a Canon 17-40 f4L lens for most of the pictures. I left me big zoom at home.

Mickey, I mentioned staying away from 1501 because I think you would lose any view to you left due to the landscaping. It wasn't a problem in 3501, though.

I would request a room number and let them know what time you will arrive. I got the room I requested in Sept.
