My daughters did this on 7/13. The thing they don't publicize is that it is NOT a hotel activity just for hotel guests--it is an actual dance class of local children that meets at Luau cove. Several of the children have parents in the luau show.
For one thing they were on "Hawaii time" which means the actual dancing didn't start until about 10:45 when the instructor got there--she said there were parking problems. It must not be an unusual occurence because the other parents waited patiently. I'm a dance mom myself but I'm not used to lessons starting late! Then they put my girls (7 and 10) with a group of younger girls learning a hula dance to a song from "Lilo and Stitch" for a show they were going to do. I got it all on tape in case they want to practice later. My girls have been dancing since they were 3 so they picked it up pretty quickly, but if a girl has no background I don't know how they would handle it.
You could watch the older girls practice and warm up, and MAN! Some of the stuff they have to do to warm up looks really, really painful to me.
We left about noon and they were still going, although they had finished the 'Lilo' number.
My girls had a lot of fun, but I had pictured a CM (like a cruise director or something) helping them do basic hula moves and that wasn't it at all--these people really know what they are doing and they do it every week.
