Hey guys! :wave2: After lots of lurking and occasional posting I thought that I would start a planning journal. :)

So far I've managed to get tons of ideas from other people on this board so I'm afraid this is more of a keeping track of things rather than trying to offer other people ideas. I'm so not creative!

Anyway, on with the show!

How we met:
I guess you could say Jason and I met through my job. I participated in my 2nd WDWCP from January 2005-May 2005 at Kilimanjaro Safaris. After finishing my CP I stayed on full-time and moved here permanently. On January 5, 2006 a group of safari drivers met at TGIFriday's. Jason's dad was a coworker of mine and stopped by with Jason and his sister. I was one of the last to arrive so I got stuck sitting on Jason's end of the table instead of next to my friends. We ended up talking and his sister invited me to the movie they were going to see after dinner. I accepted and ended up sitting next to Jason during the movie. :lovestruc Being the extremely shy guy he is he didn't ask for my number. Insert safari friends. My friends teamed up with his dad to get Jason my phone number. Our first date was a 13 hour Disney park marathon on January 11, 2006. We hit 3 out of the 4 parks looking for hidden mickeys. That was when I knew I had found the Disney nerd I was destined to be with. :jumping1:

The Proposal:
A couple months before January Jason informed me that our anniversary plans had been taken care of. All he would tell me was that we were going to stay on property for 2 nights taking advantage of the dining plan special they had going for cms. Everything else was a complete surprise. The morning of the 11th, our anniversary, we got up and headed over to Epcot. We had lunch at Coral Reef and then participated in the Aqua Seas Tour. We are both divers and I want to work with dolphins so this was perfect for us! After that we went to the resort to check in. This is when I found out we were staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge, one of my absolute favorites and very fitting due to how we met. We had a perfect savannah view room, just off Arusha Rock on the second floor.

We had a little time to enjoy the view before we had to get ready for dinner. All I knew about it was that I had to dress up. Before dinner we ended up at POR where we took a horse-drawn carriage ride. This is where he gave me my anniversary present. He told me to close my eyes so he could prepare it after I unwrapped an Arribas Brothers box. When I opened my eyes in his hand was a glass Dumbo sitting on a pedestal. Engraved on the pedestal was 'Will you marry me?' and a ring was dangling from Dumbo's trunk. :cloud9: Dumbo is my favorite character for a couple of reasons. Dumbo was my favorite ride growing up. On my first CP I was assigned to Fantasyland attractions where I was given the opportunity to operate Dumbo on a daily basis. Of course I said "Yes!". Our carriage driver was the sweetest man and actually stopped the horse and took our picture next to a gazebo along the path.
IMG_1322.jpg
He said he had always thought that would make a pretty picture and was so excited to be able to do it for us. After more pictures at the end of the ride we headed into the gift shop.

We bought a magnet as a momento. Unfortunately they don't have anything for their horse-drawn carriage rides. Then it was on to dinner. I was completely surprised when we ended up turning into the Contemporary. We had dinner at my all-time favorite restaurant, California Grill.
IMG_1330.jpg
Apparently Jason had told them he was going to propose at dinner and they gave us a seat along the window with an amazing view of the fireworks! :yay: They also sent someone up from the front desk to take our picture. On our way out of the hotel I asked the front desk for the just married buttons and a sharpie marker. I crossed out married and put engaged and we wore them for the rest of our anniversary trip. :) Here you can see Jason's button.

The next night we returned to the room to find strawberries my mom had ordered for us. YUM!

The Wedding:
Date: Friday, April 11, 2008
Locations:
12:00 Wedding Pavilion
1:00-6:00 Living Seas
8:30-9:30 Italy Isola
Number of guests: At the actual ceremony and reception we will have a maximum of 104 since that is the capacity for the Living Seas. Our friends who live here in the Orlando area, along with the kids under the age of 13 who are not coming to the WP/LS, will be invited to our DP so we are anticipating around 130.
Colors: different shades of blue and green
The dress: This one

On one hand it feels like we have a lot figured out but on the other it feels like we still have so much to do. I think we are set on which invitations we are going to use and we also have the favors figured out. I am working on doing everything for the favors with the exception of getting the M&Ms. I will try to get a picture up soon. I am also working on getting the ribbon and Mickey heads on the bubbles.

We are still in the process of turning our contract in (things kept needing to be changed on it:headache:) so hopefully that will get done soon so I can schedule a planning session! I can't wait for the taste testing!!! :woohoo:

Are you guys still CMs? If you just want plain, colored M&Ms (as opposed to the ones that have the writing on them, direct from M&M), I would recommend waiting until January/February and buying them with your holiday discount of 40%. That's what we did, and ended up saving some money. Considering your number of guests, you might have to go back to the store several times (we bought ours from the DTD candy cauldron place), but it might be worth it.

Good luck!

My DF is still a cast member. That's a great idea, I thought about that after passing the Confectionary one night. I forgot that the store at DTD had them. He works at MK so we usually think of their first. I think we might mix them. We will get some personalized ones and mix them with the plain ones in different shades of blue and green. Jason is at the 35% level so while the holiday discount is great I don't have to limit myself to just the Dec/Jan time. That ends up being so dangerous! At least that enables me to wait as long as possible to buy the candy. If I had to do it during the holiday sale it would more than likely slowly disappear over the couple of months.

We are going to price every option out. I went to M&M World while at the Florida Mall yesterday to see what their prices were. Cheapest one wins! :thumbsup2

Hey you're getting married the day after me! :) yeay! Congrats on your engagement and wedding! Your plans sound great so far. Cant wait to here more!

And we also both live in Central FL and did the college program. Hahaha. We must think alike ;)

Great minds...;)

Are you originally from here or did you stay here after your CP? Where was your CP?

I'm originally from Virginia. I did my CP in Spring 2002 at Caseys in the Magic Kingdom. I went back to VA to finish school. I started working up there and the luckily after a year I got a job down here in Orlando. About 5 months ago, I got a job offer from Disney so here I am working for the Mouse again :)

Congrats on being back down here working for Mickey! I'm originally from Maryland. :) My first roommate worked at Caseys but alas we were in Spring 2003. Unfortunately (depending how you look at it) I couldn't stay away long enough to finish school. Thank goodness for UCF! ;)

Thanks :)

There a lot of people finishing up at UCF for that exact reason. It was hard to stay away! I started grad classes at UCF but I decided to nix that for now. Ha. I'm so over school still.

It's good to see you started your official journal :goodvibes The proposal story is so romantic. It is great that you found a fellow Disney lover. I know my DF enjoys it way more than he wants to admit it, but he is no where near as obsessed with the Mouse as I am!

I will have to take a picture of Dumbo. I never really thought about it. It's funny that his dad was so into helping us get together. They even planned a night at Raglan Road the following week so they could have us bump into each other again. It's too bad our date at the parks was the day before. :rotfl: I remember his dad always trying to set Jason up with someone from work. I had a bf at the time but it's really funny how Jason did end up with a safari driver. :)

Thanks! And thanks for all your patience with some questions I had. :goodvibes I knew in order to find a Disney nut I had to come down here and find a guy that works for Mickey. Even if he wasn't as into it as I am working down here kinda drills it in ya. ;) I actually have the best of both worlds, he's in security. I have a man in a uniform while still working for Disney. :yay:

Your proposal story is one of the sweetest I've ever heard! I've always wanted to be a CM at Disney--is it that hard to get a job down there? I'd move down in a second after graduation in May if I could. I look forward to reading more of your planning journal!

I finally got my engagement pictures in the original post. I'm going to take a picture of Dumbo and put that in. I hope to do it soon but DF is off today and tomorrow for the first time in a month. :yay:

It's really not hard to get a job at Disney although it depends on what kind of job you are looking for. It also depends on the time of year as they obviously need more people during peak season. :)

Things have been kind of a mess lately. Like someone else did I'm hoping venting in this will make me feel a little bit better about things.

To make a long story short my friend, who was to be my photographer, and I are not on speaking terms. So I have been in the search for a new photographer. Photography is one thing I don't want messed with for my wedding. Whether we become friends again or not I am hiring a different photographer. Randy Chapman is available so I'm going to take it as a sign and hopefully get a deposit in asap!

And more recently I have found out that my brother may not be able to make anything more than the ceremony/reception because of his job. Seeing as he was more supportive when he found out we were engaged than my dad was I'm really upset at the thought. What's worse is we can't change the date because of Jason's extended family. They refuse to take their kids out of school and they already have that WDW vacation planned. I don't know if he actually heard this from them or if this is just what he thinks but I don't want an entire family mad at me. Everyone is already expecting it to be a certain date so I feel forced into it. My brother is going to try to talk to his boss and all. He thinks he might be able to stay for the dessert party that night and maybe the farewell breakfast the next morning. At this point I'll take whatever I can get.

Figuring out the bridesmaids is also still an issue that is stressing me out. I had 4 girls figured out and all was fine. Well my photographer friend was one of those girls. So there goes one. An old roommate of mine/one of my closest friends has pretty much dropped off the face of the earth. So there goes another. That issue combined with the above two have made me kind of stop thinking of the wedding. It's just not fun like it should be.

On the up side, I have figured out which officiant we will have. I want Jason to look over the ceremony he sent us but I think we will definitely go with Ron R. Jason has been working 8am-11:30pm everyday so he hasn't been able to put in the input I would like. :(

Before we leave for vacation next week we are going to get the deposit and wedding contract in. Then we should be able to schedule the planning session which I hope to have when my mom is down the end of August.

Let's see. What else?

My roommate gave me this picture along with a great idea from her cousin's wedding.

The groom's cake was a Kermit cake. I had never heard of the whole groom's cake thing and wasn't going to partake in it. But now I'm thinking that I would love to surprise Jason with this idea at the rehearsal dinner. We are hoping to have the rehearsal dinner at California Grill. It will be just a sheet cake but I would love to have it be whatever his favorite cake combo ends up being. With Kermit playing the banjo and lots of fireflies around. Kermit playing the banjo and a firefly are two different tattoos that he has. I think it would be fun to surprise him with something and that would cover dessert!

I guess that's it. I've just been working on getting all the Mickey heads punched out. I've been putting the ribbon and Mickey heads on the bubbles. When I finish those I'll get a picture, probably won't be until after we come back though. We've decided which colors we will use of M&Ms. We are just going to get them at Disney so we can use Jason's discount. I'll try to get a complete example done and get a picture of it.

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. I'd definitely take the fact that Randy is available as a sign that it's. "meant to be." From what everybody says, I think you'll be very happy with that decision. (He was already booked on our date, so that wasn't an option for us.)

I hope things work out with your brother's job. That's a tough one! You'd think his boss would be understanding, since it's his SISTER's wedding, not some distant relative. Plus, he'll have plenty of notice. At least you know he'll be at the ceremony and reception, though.

As for the bridesmaids, you can always go without. I'm only having a flowergirl. I just didn't want to deal with the drama. Plus, even just picking the maids and groomsmen can cause issues. You certainly shouldn't feel like you have to have a wedding party. Plenty of brides don't.

And that cake is great!! I'm sure your DF will love it. It sounds perfect for him!
