Tiggerdad trip report (6/8 - 6/15)

Thank you for the pics! Those sunny sites look like they would be murder at the end of July when we want to go! Loved your trip report - thanks for posting! Enjoy the remainder of your stay!

Camping is probably the one thing left that is a true family bonding moment, and I for one am sold on it and this campground.

And with that comment you tipped the scale. I've been entertaining the idea of purchasing a used trailer mostly so I can afford more trips to my happy place ~ "poor man's DVC" as another disser dubbed it! We'll be going to take a look at the one I have my eye on this evening!

Thanks for reminding me that some of my best childhood memories are from camping trips with my family. To let my kids experience that PLUS disney ~ :cloud9:.

It is well worth it if you do your meals at the camper. If you take it and eat in the parks, it will potentially cost you a lot more depending on where you eat. I learned a lot on this trip. If they offer free dining at a resort, then I will take the resort. Otherwise, I come out better taking the "poor man's DVC". Good luck on the trailer hunt. Mine took almost 2 years to find the one we could all agree on. One last piece of advice if you go to Fort Wilderness. Allow yourself some days to just be at the Fort. No reservations to keep, except maybe the Hoop. I almost missed the campground all together between reservations and rain. Have a day or so to just sit and relax and ride around.

Here are some pics from Gulf State Park. Bamaed put me on this one and I changed my reservations to here. I really like it, minus the lack of shade. The wildfire here last year really hurt the tree life. There are a lot of spots and they are level and clean. The bathhouses (like 11 of them I think) are very clean as well. They have some lakefront sites, but you need to book early. This place is full to the brim right now. It works like Disney, you can't request a site, they assign them on your arrival. You have access to at least two beaches with your camp site pass as well. They recently installed a great looking pool, the kids really like it.

We drove through the campground Tuesday evening, just to look around and see how the sites looked for a future camping trip. I circled site numbers on the map I got at the check-in building for future reference, as they were nicely shaded for tent camping.

The Gulf Shores park campground was very full! The pool area looks great, and those jet fountains look like fun too. We would have stopped to say, "Hi", but had no idea you were there. We only returned from our GS trip yesterday afternoon, though we left a day early due to the seaweed build-up on the beach there. Wish the water would have been clearer for our last day, but I think the oncoming rain brought so much seaweed in to the shore line.

Loved reading your TR. Can't wait untill our next trip to FW. And I will remember to put up the awning. Or can it just be dropped way down?

We just got home today, so that is why I am just now responding. Hate we missed you, but that is life. Yes, that place was full. I will for sure go back. Happy camping to ya...

You won't be sorry! We just purchased a fifth wheel last year - and at that time our kids were 21 and 26. I have said sooo many times over the past year "I wish we had done this when the kids were little"... but then I remind myself back then we had 4-5 dogs and two cats....
