Orlando Sentinel Article
Took less than an hour of deliberations.
I guess having the jury trying on the costume made the difference. Someting I couldn't figure out in the article, was if the lawyer for the defendant was dressed as Tigger during his final arguments. the article read as if the lawyer was also a part-time Tigger.

When this came out sooo many people had this 'scumbag' convicted and issued an indictment of what Disney 'has become'...But the facts aren't always immediately evident, are they?

Ultimately, it sounds like a huge over reaction and perhaps a hope of a financial settlement from someone who thought Disney would somehow settle / be liable.

As for the embarassment of the girl, I truly am saddened but perhaps the state should look into the fitness of this mother for subjecting her daughter to such ridicule in the wake of such a frivolous lawsuit!

Ahh that sinking feeling when the pot of gold disappears out of sight.

I hope Tigger gets reinstated and back pay!!

Ahhh.....don't you just love lawyers and money grubbing trailer trash ?

Hooray for Tigger !

I heard that the jury was made up of the Seven Dwarfs and the Fab-5! At least it wasn't a "Kanga"roo court!!:teeth:

Defense attorney Jeffrey Kaufman -- who also moonlights as Tigger and Goofy at Walt Disney World .

That is why he was so sure of his Defense.

They had to avoid a kangaroo jury..........the ceilings were too low:teeth:

The step father of the girl was on the news the other day saying that nothing happened. He was standing there taking the picture when this happened. He also mentioned that his wife went to see an attorney before the trip. He said she was doing it for the money.

BTW, that would be the ex-stepfather of the girl.

The mother lost credibility when it was revealed that she lied to prosecutors and the defense attorney about her intentions to sue Disney.

If this mother set her daughter up to do this, that's an awful shame.

The Walt Disney World Railroad is pleased to announce that this Gravy Train has left the station without any passengers.

(Orlando Sentinel) Michael C. Chartrand expects to find out today what kind of future he has at Walt Disney World after his acquittal in the Tigger trial.

Chartrand's defense attorney, Jeffrey Kaufman, confirmed that his client is to meet with Disney officials to inquire about his employment.

Disney suspended Chartrand from his job as a cast member after allegations surfaced that he had groped a 13-year-old girl while he was in costume as Tigger at the Magic Kingdom's Toon Town.

On Wednesday an Orange County jury took less than an hour to clear him of the sexual molestation charge. Jurors said the prosecutor didn't provide enough evidence to convict Chartrand.

"Michael is just going to go in and ask for his job back," Kaufman said. "They [Disney] are probably trying to figure out what they're going to do."

After he was acquitted, Chartrand, 36, said: "I will never go back as a character. It [the prosecution] has ruined my dream of being a character."

If he returned to Disney, he said, he might like to work as a character greeter, a worker who escorts a character and interacts with guests.

Donna-Lynne Dalton, business agent for Teamsters Local 385, the union that represents costumed characters, said she contacted Disney on Wednesday night to discuss non-character positions available to Chartrand.

Under Disney's contract with its costumed characters, the verdict requires the company to "reinstate him and make him whole," Dalton said. She added that Disney also has to give him back pay missed during his four-month suspension.

"He is going to get back pay," Disney spokeswoman Jacquee Polak confirmed, though she could not say how much.

Dalton estimated that Chartrand makes between $6.35 and $6.85 an hour, and, like most characters, had been working about 40 hours each week. At that rate, he could recoup between $4,500 and $5,000 in back pay.

Kaufman, who aggressively defended Chartrand at the trial, said he could not legally represent him in work-related discussions with Disney. That's because Kaufman works part-time as a character at the park.

"I'm on the schedule for next week," Kaufman said. "I love the place."

The case gained worldwide attention even before Kaufman dressed up in the Tigger costume during his closing argument. Disney had suggested having the suit altered for the court proceedings to preserve the "magic" and to protect the character's image. But that never happened.

Meanwhile, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said none of the roughly 30 similar complaints against Disney characters that surfaced after Chartrand's arrest have resulted in charges.

The cases either didn't have enough evidence to prosecute or the people complaining didn't want to pursue criminal charges, said sheriff's spokesman Jim Solomons.

During the trial, the investigator in Chartrand's case was criticized by the defense for doing poor police work. Solomons said the Sheriff's Office will review the investigation.

"You always critique a high-profile incident," Solomons said. "If we take away something from how we investigated this case and learn from it, we will."

thank goodness! i felt so bad for the man when you saw him on the news you could tell he was really distraught.

I told my DH from the beginning that i bet the woman just wanted to try to get a cash settlement...so glad that she was foiled!

"I heard that the jury was made up of the Seven Dwarfs and the Fab-5! At least it wasn't a "Kanga"roo court!!"

ROFL! that's hilarious!

someone on another board groaned about the 'magic' being ruined for anyone who saw "tigger" in court. Come on, this is about a man's LIFE here, so what if "tigger' had to make a guest appearance. Sheesh!

Shocking thing for me: that characters still get paid so little. :earseek: Disney really needs to pony up and give these people a fair wage for the magic that they do, it's not easy!!!!!!!

All I can say is... "WHOO HOO!!! Let's hear it for the Tigger!!!"

DAMN, I was hoping he was found guilty because I have a picture of my 8 yo niece with Pluto and he is CLEARLY gropping her! His big ole' paw just stretched across her entire chest, lord knows he knew what he was doing taking 100's of pictures with faceless families each hour in a sweaty 1000 degree plushy suit. I was hoping to fatten my bank account by embarrassing her and my entire family by bringing on a frivilous lawsuit to ruin someone's career and reputation all for the almighty buck! This justice system is just wrong, what's next a man who murdered his wife and unborn child being found innocent!

So now all those 30 or so other cases get dropped too?

What burns me up is this guys life is changed forever, and all those lowlife scumbags, who want something for nothing are willing to go to any legnth.

What kind of a person goes to disney to figure out a way to sue?

What the heck kind of country is this...

Ok, don't answer that. I'm just venting.

This kind of stuff kills me. I'm hoping the woman who began all this gets some charges of her own....but that never happens.

I'm sure they'll still be investigated, as would any registered complaint, but I would imagine it will be much more difficult for anyone to claim anything, now that the guy has been aquitted.

:earsboy:

Just saw this today on the boards - 8 days after the acquital.
I guess the TV networks, USA Today, Jay Leno, and Letterman didn't think the acquital was as newsworthy/jokeworthy as the arrest.

The guy also lost his fiance just after the accusations :(

And he was offered his job back but it was not clear whether or not he would be the tigger character again. His statement after acquittal was that he wouldn't be able to wear that costume.

Well, maybe when the fiance hears he's getting $5000 back pay, she'll be back to help spend it. It all seems to be about $$$$$ you know!
But seriously, if she couldn't stick by him when he was accused, possibly she's not the one for him anyway. God has someone better in mind!
