Tiger linked to Aids virus

I get what's supposed to be funny about it and I knew what the "joke" was before I opened the thread.

However, "Tiger Woods, husband and father of two small children, has been so promiscuous in his infidelities that he is plausibly at risk for a dreaded illness!" doesn't really strike me as a laff riot.

I don't mean to be humorless, but there are some things that I just don't think it's in good taste to joke about. Too many people are actually hurt.

And there are some people on the DIS that act like they actually know Tiger and are the ones who have been hurt.

Wow....I find it hard to believe that somebody would take that post as some sort of Aids bashing or whatever....I believe it, I just don't believe it.

It's clinically called: Displacement. Many people are incredibly unhappy, frustrated, helpless about other situations. They take the slightest event they can grab onto to vent their anger, outrage, frustrations, and lack of control, disproportionate to the actual situation illiciting such outrage. :teacher:

...I thought it was funny...

Be careful...having your own sense of humor is frowned upon. I'm hoping the unhappy posters will let us know sooner what we are and aren't allowed to laugh at.

Apparently!

I didn't know thinking a joke was in poor taste had clinical implications. I'm glad I got my DIS diagnosis! :thumbsup2

While I'm nearly too crippled by helplessness and despair over my unhappy life to compose this message, I now understand that I'm allowed to have my own sense of humor only as long as I agree with whichever crowd shouts the loudest.

Okay, so I have no idea what you wrote, but I keep meaning to tell you that I love the kittie in your sig (and his hat).

You've not been here long, have you??

I must say, it is very weird to read a thread with deleted posts (when you don't know that they've been deleted). I kept seeing quotes and wonder how the heck I'd missed the original post. Then the little arrow thing (that takes you back to the quoted post) would take me to totally different posts.

:thumbsup2 We may as well add depression to the feelings you expressed above.

Seriously, you expressed that very well and I totally agree.

Seriously, the fact that you're even attempting to insinuate that Tiger coming down with AIDS is no joking manner just screams that you truly DON'T understand the reason some found humor in the thread.

Tiger Woods coming down with AIDS is NOT funny on any level (nor would it be for anyone else) and no one on the thread ever suggested it was. What was suggested to be funny is, you expected to read one thing (and if other posters felt like I did, reading the title was very much a shock and most certainly not a HAPPY occasion), and even prepared somewhat for it, then find out the subject wasn't about Tiger Woods at all. It was almost like one of those April Fool's jokes, and you were actually happy to read that it was about ancient tigers rather than a human being.

You're certainly entitled to believe anything you'd like as it pertains to humor or just about anything else. What you're not entitled to do is blast someone else for their posts when you're entire case is built on faulty facts. The humor was NEVER about AIDS, Tiger Woods, or Tiger Woods coming down with AIDS.

Now I'm ready to bang my head.

The joke goes like this:

1.) Viewer sees thread title "Tiger linked to Aids virus"
2.) Viewer thinks "Oh my gosh! Tiger Woods has AIDS!?! That's awful. Can't say it's a surprise, I guess..."
3.) Viewer clicks link and sees that story is about an ancient tiger with AIDS.
4.) Viewer finds dichotomy between what they expected to read and what they actually read to be funny. Hilarity ensues.

The only thing that makes the joke "funny" is that the user thinks it's possible that Tiger Woods could have AIDS given his recent extracurriculars. Otherwise, the joke doesn't work. If the thread title read "Jungle cat linked to AIDS virus" it wouldn't be a joke.

The assertion that the humor is not about AIDS, Tiger Woods, or Tiger Woods having AIDS is just totally not true. I think even the people who liked the joke understand that.

I think the joke was tasteless. Which is just my opinion, no more or less important than the 60+ other people who chose to state theirs. I'm not building a "case" and I don't even bleepin' care that much! I just happened to be bored waiting for DH to come home on a late flight and was passing the time on the DIS. I'm not trying to convert anyone and I didn't insult anyone's momma.

bang...:headache: bang...:headache: bang...:headache:

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

I thought it was funny. Some people need to take a chill pill.

Doesn't anyone watch South Park here? They already declared that AIDS can officially be funny now.

But seriously, with all due respect to those who have been personally affected by AIDS in some way and are understandably sensitive to the the subject, this "joke" wasn't making fun of someone having AIDS, that would most certainly be tasteless and frankly mean spirited. This was a "gotcha" joke that used a play on words and subject matter that just happened to include AIDS. Maybe close to the line, but not over it. Would people have been as upset if the story was titled "Tiger Linked to Syphilis?" Probably not.

You're right, IF the title would have been about ancient tigers, it wouldn't have been funny, thus proving, the humor came from the fact that one expected to read one thing and found out it was something entirely different. It was nothing more or less than that. Since I found a little humor in that regard, I think I'm more qualified to speak of what I felt was funny. Since you saw no humor in it, you're insistence that the humor as it relates to Tiger Woods and AIDS is 100% faulty.

BTW, I don't think anyone thought it a riot all the while laughing their butts off for the next 20 minutes. For me it was more of a, "gotcha" moment, followed by a quick sigh of relief.
