Tiger Fans Do Disney Resorts Report
Dates: June 2-14
Cast: Lisa, Lynn, Emily and Lisas Parents for part of the stay.
Our two weeks were spent split between 3 different resorts. One week was offsite with our timeshare trade program. We used the back entrance on Sherberth Road and were only about 2 mins from the Animal Kingdom Lodge. This was a large 2 bedroom unit which made it perfect for my parents visit. We love to stay on-site and do so whenever possible, but we cant turn down this great trade option either. Our week here was great with a nice unit and a great pool area which was never crowded.
Now for our onsite stays. First was at All Star Sports. We stayed here in January and really enjoyed it so we decided to try it again. I had gotten the rate of $65/night by using a code I found on the DIS. Check-in was very smooth and I found that all of my requests had been granted, this turned out to be a bad thing. Ill explain. I had requested Touch Down Building 10, overlooking the football field, which we were informed was currently under construction for rehab. The CM gladly offered to change us and we selected Surfs Up Building 6, same building as January and were very happy. The location is great to the pool and the foodcourt.
We were able to also get our Fantasmic Dinner Package ressies for Wednesday and our E-tickets for Tuesday. All of this took about 15 mins from checking in to the extras.
One thing we did different this trip was swim in the smaller Goofy Pool over near Music rather than the large main pool. We found it to be much less crowded, many times only a few others were there. We really like the All Stars and feel they are an excellent value for the buck. We will stay here again, anytime.
Now the Yacht Club WOW. I can hardly even put into words how wonderful this stay was. We only had 4 days here, but I could have moved in. We received a postcard several months ago offering the Yacht or Beach Club for $169/night standard view we booked right away. We checked in the morning after dropping my folks off at the airport for a 9:30am flight. We were certain that we would have to wait until much later to check-in at the Yacht Club, but wanted to go ahead and pre-register and get hoping to Epcot and the Boardwalk. In addition to this being a Sunday morning, the Vice President of the United States was literally checking out as we were checking in. Now we didnt see him, but witnessed his motorcade and heard all about his weekend stay at The Yacht Club. We arrived at 10am to find that not only did they have us a room, but it was a semi upgrade from the standard room view (parking lot) to a garden view overlooking the Wedding Gazebo. I had not faxed any requests here, but had stopped in earlier in the week before our Illuminations Cruise and requested to simply be near the elevators.
This room was incredible. While we were unpacking we witnessed our first wedding. All total we saw 4 weddings in 4 days, and one that was absolutely incredible Mickey and Minnie got married! Thats right, we returned one day from the parks to see Mickey and Minnie, and some other couple all united in the gazebo. We grabbed cameras and sat on the balcony for a wonderful and fun experience. Obviously, this other couple had specially invited (and paid for Im sure) M & M to their wedding, but in the eyes of our 4 year old and quite frankly ours too, Mickey and Minnie were tying the knot. Mickey was dressed in a tux, while Minnie wore a beautiful yellow, victorian gown, it was truly exquisite. After the wedding, M & M looked up to us on the 3rd floor and blew kisses and waved. It was a wonderful day!
More about this great resort. We loved the location of the resort to Epcot, MGM, and especially the Boardwalk area. As soon as we checked in we walked over to enjoy Sunday Brunch as Spoodles. We had to take the boat back after all that food (see restaurant reviews). The hotel is so gorgeous and welcoming that I hated to leave each day for our activities, and we actually left less than we had originally intended. Everything about this lobby and the rest of the resort was beautiful. Our room was about the size we expected, but the balcony was the biggest plus for us from the moderates and values. The other big difference is space in the entry hallway outside the bathroom, it really makes good use of the space. We also like the closet and tall chest. The room is decorated so beautiful in blue stripes, florals, and the nautical theme carried throughout. We also liked having the daybed and small table and chairs.
Beyond the room we strolled out to Storm A-Long Bay what a wonderful pool area. It is huge, but has lots of private little corners where you can swim like you are all alone. We loved the childrens beach area and the lazy river the best. We split our time between the two, hardly ever venturing over to the Beach Club side or the huge slide from the shipwreck. This has to be the best pool for small children. We loved that Emily could take her swimmies off and play in the sand and race into the water with out fear of going under. We usually would set up camp right in the shallow water and sand and watch Emily play. The lazy river was our other favorite pool activity and we went around for hours. My tip about this is to buy a noodle rather than rent a tube. The tubes rent for $3/hour or $10/day or you can own a noodle for $4. Trust me they will hold you up and plus you get to enjoy the water rather than being on top of it. They dont have the noodles up front at the pool gift shop, they are behind the counter so to speak, just ask.
Well, I could go on for days about how we loved The Yacht Club. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
