I am going in an anniversary vacation with DH only. We recently upgraded to stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge. I am now trying to decide if I should keep my Tiffins reservation or try Jiko since we will be so close. Which would you prefer and why?

I really wish we could do both!

I have done both and prefer Tiffins hands down. I was so excited to visit Jiko in January with just DH to cap off a wonderful trip...after seeing so many positive reviews, I knew he'd love it. Instead it was one of the worst dining experiences we've had at WDW. Service wasn't great and only one dish stood out as being worthy of having again, and it's not even on the current menu. DH is willing to give it another shot if we were staying at AKL again, but we were both disappointed.

Tiffins on the other hand was one of the best meals I've had. I ate there on solo trip for the ROL dining package and everything I had was extraordinary.

But that's just my opinion! You might see some that are the complete opposite.

Good luck making your decision. Jiko is very pretty, though! Enjoy your anniversary trip!! AKL is a perfect location for an adults only trip!

Having been to both, I'd say Jiko. I liked Tiffin's, but I found it extremely over priced for what you got. Jiko on the other hand (still expensive) is the best dining on property in my opinion. Jiko is a must do every trip for me and always ends up being the best dining of every trip.

However as the above shows, tastes and experiences can vary!

JIKO. I have dined at both; Jiko at least three times, Tiffins just once. Tiffins was very good. We enjoyed it very much and would not hesitate to go back. If i wanted signature dining and was already planning to be in AK, I would easily choose Tiffins. We usually eat at Nomad Lounge, for lunch. Jiko has been nothing but exceptional dining to us. We love the bread service, the variety of flavors and the AKL is phenomenal as a dining venue.

We have been to both and enjoy both.
For your Anniversary, Jiko is more upscale.
Tiffins is very good, especially for a park restaurant. Inside, everyone is dressed for the parks, Jiko dress code is usually a little more dressy. The pace of the meal also seems more relaxed at Jiko, although we never rush at Tiffins either.
Ultimately, both are good choices.

Don't miss stopping at Nomad lounge by Tiffins during the afternoon. Great place to relax and recharge. Great drinks too!

I would go with Jiko. As others have said, it's more of an upscale experience. Tiffins is good, but I still felt like I was in a theme park - it just didn't feel special to me. I would recommend, however, taking some time to stop in Nomad Lounge when you are in AK! It's so relaxing and the drinks are delicious!

Jiko is our favorite restaurant at WDW. We enjoyed our meal at Tiffins, but it was hit or miss, my app was very disappointing whereas my husband's was very good, and our entrees were the exact opposite, neither dessert was anything to write home about but we find that with most WDW desserts.

That’s tough. I’ve eaten at both of them recently. And had great meals and service at both

I’d pick Jiko just because the atmosphere is much nicer

Thank you for the responses! I’m leaning toward Jiko. I love the idea of goIng to nomad lounge during our AK day! I still have time to decide as I have reservations for both and am not going until early December.

we have stayed at AKL our last 3 trips in December.

Usually we dine at Jiko once each trip as it’s convenient. It’s good but not as good as other signatures were always eat at.

We tried Tiffins last year & we really enjoyed the food there.

However, Sanaa at AKL is even better. It’s a really pretty restaurant & we found the entrees at dinner to be awesome! Last year I had a pork chop & the bread service & it was delicious. The restaurant is gorgeous too.

Since Sanaa is in that same area I thought you might be interested in it.

We just did both two weeks ago...tough choice but if I couldn't choose both, I think I would choose Jiko. Ask for a table near the window. Having said that, the acoustics in Jiko are odd; there was a VERY loud table near the back of the restaurant and we could hear every word the male spoke; like every word. :scared: He had to have been yelling I would think. They were a nightmare table. Kids running all over.

Tiffins was fabulous as well, quieter and beautiful. We enjoyed the menu more at Tiffins. Jiko's service though was stellar.

Tough choice. Both. ;)

We found Sanaa to be very loud and not as good as our last trip, about 6 years ago.

Love them both. Not an easy choice. I do not think you can go wrong. Pick the location that works best.

Both are near fun lounges which does nothing to make your decision easier.

Not a very helpful reply :)

Enjoy!

As others have said, both are great. If staying at AKL, I’d probably pick Jiko so as not to deal with buses and walking into the park, maybe get a little dressed up. We love the Victoria Falls Lounge for a pre-dinner drink and also love poking around the resort and various viewing areas including the night vision goggles. It’s a stunning resort. Enjoy!!!

We love Nomad Lounge, we eat there all the time when at AK and prefer it to Tiffins.

For the longest time Jiko was almost universally considered the best restaurant on property after V&A. But apparently recently the head chef moved to California Grill, and as a result Jiko's reputation has fallen a little, while CA has taken its place as best non-V&A restaurant.

I've been to both. I love the theming and details of Tiffins more, although the atmosphere in Jiko is great and there's a couple nice little hidden details there as well. There's more of a backstory with Tiffins and Joe Rohde was more involved. Love the music in Tiffins too (can't remember if Jiko has any music playing in it).

As for the food... I gotta give it to Jiko, just slightly. Now I went before the change of chefs so it definitely might not be as good anymore, but Jiko was one of the best meals of my life. I had the lamb chops, which were absolute perfection. I tried the steak as well and it was out of this world. But Tiffins was also fantastic. I had both the pork belly ramen and duck at Tiffins and they were both excellent.

Both were two of the best meals I've ever had at Disney World. Right now with the chef change at Jiko I might pick Tiffins over it. (Tiffins is a little cheaper also, I think.) But you'll have a great meal either way.
