Tiered parking

How does it work? Do you pay at the booth and then they give you something to admit you into the preferred area? Is there a cm checking a the preferred area?

They used to have the AAA Diamond parking and people were wiling to buy those passes off ebay. So Disney may as well take that money.

If you end up all the way that the far end of a row at Epcot you are going to wonder why you paid an extra $15 for the privilege of walking just as far as someone you got a spot at the near end of a row in a lot further from the park entrance. Most of those parking rows are very long.

Also, at MK you really need to ride the tram no matter where you park. Not sure why anyone would pay for a shorter tram ride.

I haven't driven in yet to see exactly, and I don't work anywhere near that area, but from what I have read guests who upgrade will be given a pass that will allow them into that area. Just like guests who have to show a pass to park in the disability lot, or a CM who shows their ID to get into the cast lot.

I'll agree on the Epcot part.

However, that's not true about MK. If you're among the first to arrive and are parked in the closest lot (which I assume is now the preferred parking), you won't need to take the tram. It's not a long walk. I've done it myself more than once.

I have too, but I am in great shape. It is a very long walk to anyone with mobility issues - more than half mile.

What's next, tiered bathroom usage?

Free: 1-ply toilet tissue with manual flush
Upgrade for just .50 per sheet to 2-ply with automatic flush.

For only $2, upgrade your hand washing to include both hot and cold water AND unlimited use of the paper towel dispenser.
Free: Cold water only and a cast member will blow on your hands for 30 seconds.

If i remember correctly though doesn't Amaze just mean walking to the park entrance anyway? Seems those that don't pay will end up better off just taking the nice tram and having less of a walk.

Ugh--those are our choices? "Would you like to get over the head with this brick, or this big rock?" How about neither one?

LOL! NO!!! I really have no issues with choices. Do I want to pay additional money for a Villains party if I purchase a Party ticket? No. DO I want to take the tram or pay $15 for Princess Parking? I'll take the tram. Do I want to pay more money for a view, or keep standard view? Standard please. Do I want a Preferred resort location or be at the back of the resort? I'll pay thank you! I am okay with this kind of choice. I am NOT okay with tacking on an additional $15 per night with the explanation that I am paying for all those Disney extras that Disney been cheering about for the past 3 years.

So let's see, the hotels are tierd. The Fast Pass+ options are tiered at 2 parks (and I won't be surprised if they end up tiering AK, as well. The park tickets are tiered in that MK costs more than the other parks for a one-day ticket. Seems fitting that parking would be next. It's called getting "nickeled and dimed" and Disney is nothing if not a master of it. It wouldn't be so bad, in my opinion, if they didn't raise their prices all the time, as well. When you raise the price to park and then, only a few months later, introduce tiering, it's annoying. Just raise the price to park. When you raise the cost of a hotel room and then, only a few months later, start charging a resort fee, it's annoying. Just raise the price of the hotel.

Amaze is front and center. I think the whole idea is that there is less of a need for trams in the preferred lots which is especially helpful at the end of the day when everyone is filing out. This way you are guaranteed a short walk rather than choosing between a longer walk or a long wait

Do CM's park in Journey?

No, working cast have a separate lot from the main one. Sometimes cast from other parks (DHS mainly) will be relocated to a main epcot lot during busy times, but this isn't super common

Anyone have any sense of how many parking spaces are available for the premium price? Trying to get a sense of what sort of profit Disney would be looking at. If 5000 total spaces then Disney would make around $2.74 million a year just on the premium parking. Not bad and since it is voluntary I guess I don't see a problem, although when you start adding a charge for everything that can be deemed "premium" you start pricing out some people and it gets sort of elitist (arguably).

It looks like approximately 1000 in Epcot (approx 45-50 slots per row x 2 cars per slot x 10 rows) and about 550 in MK (approx 55 slots per row x 2 cars per slot x 5+fractional rows)
