Tie dye questions

Okay, I'm going to try the tie dye Mickey thing. I'm experimenting with a simple one-color heart design first (in a color I don't plan on using for the Mickeys... using the kit to full advantage).

I need to know how to mix dyes. I want to do my Mickeys in black, with green, orange and purple for background colors. But my local wal-mart and Michael's don't have orange. I bought a kit with turquoise, yellow, green, purple, and fushia. If I mix the yellow and fushia, will I get orange? Can I test my mix on paper or something to see if it's right before I use it? HELP!

I'm hoping to wear them for MNSSHP, that's why I chose such wierd colors. I know I'll have to be careful to keep them from mixing into brown on the shirts.

As for testing the colors, not sure if paper would give you the same effect as material. Do you have a scrap t-shirt you could practice on?

Yes, I too attended kindergarten where they taught us red and yellow make orange. The problem is this: I live in Po-Dunk Montana, and everything is not always available. Most kits don't have red, and at 10$ a kit I didn't want to get two (plus $6.29 for the black). I researched to the best of my ability online, and even the professional looking sites list their suggested "rainbow" for applying color with fushia where they always put red in kindergarten. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with mixing fushia and yellow, and how it turned out.

According to this website mixing magenta and yellow creates red. But I am guessing if you were to mix enough yellow it would probably turn orange.

Last year, I bought a kit from Rainbow Rock that had blue, lime and violet. The lime really faded to almost yellow. I don't know if you are using the same brand but I just wanted to let you know my results.

Well, 1 part fushia and 2 parts yellow does indeed make orange. I've never posted pics before , so patience please on my first attempt.

Dang! Should have known I wouldn't get it on my first try. But I fixed it - YAY!

As you can see, the colors are not quite as bright as I hoped, but the Mickeys came out well. Everything looked great until I washed them the first time. They faded a bit, and the white is slightly lavender, but I'm too lazy (and cheap) to start over. I like them anyway.

Could someone please direct me to where I could find the directions to do the tye die Mickey head shirts. I remember reading them awhile back, but can't seem to find them on any of the forums now.
