Arts and Crafts **Tie Dye Mickey ears shirts directions**NEW NEW PICS LAST PAGE**

That is so bizarre. Maybe my pen is too old or something. I swear, I put it on there and it didn't change even the slightest bit. Weird.

Must be, because it should change as soon as you put it on the fabric. I always trace it once and they wait because it a few minutes to see the results.

We are going to make some of these shirts tomorrow.

I'm going back through the thread to find answers to these questions-
1. What is the best kind of dye and which stores carry it?

2. Best place to get 100% cotton t-shirts. Going to try to get Fruit of the Loom at Walmart.

3, Where do I get the Mickey head silhouette?

4. Is it better to baste with silk thread or dental floss?

Thanks!!

For me, the best dye is from Dharma and jacquard, you can find them both online, as far as stores, I know that jacquard you can find it in some art stores.

Wal mart has great 100% cotton shirts, however all depends in your area and what seasonal stuff they have right now, it might be hard to find short sleeve right now.

In the web, just do a google search.

I know lots of people had used dental floss and it had worked great for them, but I had never used it, I'd always used silk thread.

Thanks!!

Have fun

Thank you! I think AC Moore has the Jacquard dye. I'm probably going to end up getting men's undershirts at walmart. I know they're not very thick but I don't think there will be much else.

Thanks again!

We fon't have AC moore here, but if you can call them and ask them. Undershirts can work too, they're not very thick but they would look nice too, but they way those shirts run smaller, so if you want a medium adult you might want to go for a large, same with the kids sizes.

Long-time lurker chiming in... I have five shirts "cooking" right now for our trip on January 3! Can't wait until tomorrow to see how they turned out!

I'm not a newbie to tie-dying, but I've never attempted a "shape" before.

Awesome! Let us know how it goes. :wizard::wizard:

It went pretty well. The mickey head got kind of "blobby" on one shirt, but that was mine anyway, so I fiddled a bit with it. I'm not happy with the colors though; next time I will go with something different. I used Dylon, which I always use, but they didn't blend nicely.

Ok, apparently I don't have enough posts to post pics or links. Once I get my count to 10, I will post the pics.

Oh. sorry. Dylon is not fiber reactive dye, but it if had worked for you in the past.

I know this is asking a lot, but could someone make a video on how to do this and post it on youtube? I think that would be great! Thanks

:goodvibes

Oh boy, If I know how to do that I would had done it. I got tons of videos in cassetes from our trips and still don't know how to do all that. Sorry :confused3

Where can I get soda ash locally? My Michael's NEVER has the stuff and yet sells all of the other stuff for tie-dye. Gah!

I don't want to wait for an order from Dharma. :)

Other than Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Joans, any craft store or art store. Also home depot of wal mart in the swimming pool area, however you would have to buy a big jug for about $10.00.
The name of the product is sodium carbonate. No Sodium bi-carbonate that is something totally different.

Dick Blick's Art Supply has it, too. There are some branches of it in the Chicagoland area (the one I go to is in Wheaton). :goodvibes

Happy New Year everybody! Getting ready to make some shirts? :hippie: I sure am.
